@ABCyouandme the reason no one has called those out is that unlike Susie the majority of the posters on this thread are discussing her business and have detached that from Susie the person. If people were ok with personal comments then there would be chains of 'yeah she does' and 'omg you right lolz' but the quotes you have taken are just single comments among 8 pages of discussion without any context. I remember the curry comment and it really didn't sound like it was said in a spiteful way, she had made a point of saying she needed to be quick because she had a curry coming.

OrangeCinnamon1 · 01/09/2020 08:31

Great way to derail the thread away from questionable business practice though.

Adwodeabo · 01/09/2020 08:46

It’s very sad. The group always appeared to be such a friendly and supportive place where people raved about the service. Now it seems that’s because posts from customers who weren’t 100% happy were being declined. Several customers have now claimed that they were bullied into silence or even threatened with legal action.

Of course it’s totally unacceptable that people have made nasty personal comments, largely by private message it seems. However I can appreciate why they’re upset, especially if they’ve spent money and feel that part of what they paid for is being removed.

The analysis referred people to the facebook group to ask questions. Then when they got to the group it seems a certain amount of upselling and moderating was happening.

I hope that the new patreon service gives people what it actually says it will. As a subscription service they now have to be very careful.

I'm a member of a patreon Ukulele group it still has it's facebook group.

JustAVeniceQueen · 01/09/2020 08:58

There’s been threads where Madonna has been said to be “reeking of desperation” and many others too but no-one’s been tutting at those.

This just goes to show the biggest bullies are the ones who are shouting the Be Kind bollocks the loudest. None of this shit storm wouldn’t have happened if Susie only had listened and taken on-board the feedback. It does sting and I know it feels personal but it happens to every business, you can’t have 100% happy customers all the time.

ABCyouandme · 01/09/2020 09:02

I’m sorry for derailing your thread “about business practices”.

I saw the comments and having failed in getting a reply from mumsnet admin I chose to call them out.

But I see I’m in the minority here and that the solution is to walk on by and expect the target to grow a thicker skin.

abc straight out of the victim playbook. I mean, passive much?!

LoriesGar · 01/09/2020 09:43

Glad that ABCyouandme took the time to join Mumsnet just for this thread and show all mumsnetters the error of their ways Hmm

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/09/2020 09:50

@ABCyouandme I don’t think anyone said that the solution was to walk on by and grow a thicker skin. My point was that Susie needs to separate her BUSINESS, which is being criticised, from HERSELF. If I disintegrated every time someone called me a fat, boss eyed old trout I’d never get anything done. If you make your persona public, you do need to rise above any negative comments and grow a thicker skin. My last video attracted the usual fat, wonky eyed comments. But it also got picked up by the national press where I work, which was tremendous and gives my organisation a much higher profile. So which bit am I going to focus on?

Ironfloor269 · 01/09/2020 09:50

Posters like @ABCyouandme are obviously Susie's minions trying to get this thread deleted yet again, so please let's stick to constructive criticisms of the business and not give them the satisfaction.

Ironfloor269 · 01/09/2020 10:17

Does anyone know if Susie is getting a tax benefit by affiliation with a charity to donate a part of the £6 subscription?

Atalune · 01/09/2020 10:20

I wondered that too. I also wondered if she goes 40% of her Daily Mail fee away to her chosen charity.

I have to say that the 40% of the member fee going to a charity makes me far less inclined to join! It’s a lot and I’d rather the site be cheaper and more accessible for all with individuals making charity donations where they see fit. And Susie could use her profile as an ambassador or something to raise awareness? 40% just gets my back up....is that irrational?

HumousWhereTheHeartIs · 01/09/2020 10:21

I don't think there's a place for unkindness - but I think if you are offering a business based on personal style and you are the figurehead then you are going to face criticism. I remember awful things being said about Trinny and Susannah when they did their BBC1 show. I haven't said anything about Susie's style although it's not to my taste, and I have seen far worse on the Daily Mail. When Susie did an article about going to New York Fashion Week there were awful comments. I think she shouldn't read any of it.

My friend in a tv journalist and there are whole threads on a particular website calling her fat and ugly - she is neither.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 01/09/2020 10:34

She's put up a big lengthy post on FB and IG explaining more about the new group and reasoning behind it. I think she's been more transparent in the post and group members will appreciate it and understand more about what they're getting.

She does address the fact that they had no choice in the abrupt announcement and creation of the group and went on to blame outside forums and trolling for this. Also said she was advised not to mention the fact that members photos had been used and other members were being criticised on the forums.

From a customer point of view that post should have been made a long time ago. It's more transparent and makes other members realise the value they may get from a new more 'secure' space. Whoever advised her not to be transparent and explain it all in a language that her customers can't relate to is not a very good advisor imo.

But again, I will have to stand up for the MN threads here. I don't recall any posts where SBS members have been called horrible things about themselves in particular. The comments have all been about how poorly analysed they have been and would look better if they were dressing for their correct shape and colouring. It wasn't an attack on the members, it was criticism of the service they were receiving and how SBS policed her FB community.

@WineGetsMeThroughIt if you scroll down this page you will see a poster refer to Susie's clients as "looking like dog shit".

OrangeCinnamon1 · 01/09/2020 10:54

You need to quote @ABCyouandme so peeps can report if missed its not helpful to ask posters to scroll through pages of posts

Were any pictures of members (not stylists) ever posted here? I don’t recall any.

I don’t recall the dog shit post either but it’s just one amongst hundreds. It’s hardly like the whole thread(s) has been like that. Hardly a reason to destroy your whole business.

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/09/2020 11:06

@ABCyouandme I’ve had a look through the whole thread - I think the posts you were referencing have now been deleted as I haven’t seen them, and there are now a fair number of deleted posts.

As SBS is a business, I wonder why she can’t pay her admins to keep the FB pages up and running? She must have got a huge amount of business from FB.

MabelMoo23 · 01/09/2020 11:18

Lots of companies have social media managers and literally all they do is run Facebook/insta pages

Someone is now challenging the Main School Hustle woman about kicking people off the page... that comment will get deleted no doubt!

SBS had problems initially because A) the analysis’s were dated, not personalised, generic and sometimes wrong and B) there was no way to feedback any concerns without being removed from the FB group or being told that you’re wrong and shut down.

On the FB group all anyone saw was sweetness and light and positivity and the same type of posts and advice time after time. Unless you’d had a post declined, or your concerns about your analysis thrown back in your face, or you had stumbled across MN or tattle discussions, you’d think it a beacon of positivity. But it wasn’t. It was micro managed.

On tattle and MN this was raised and discussed and obviously brought to SBS attention. Instead of taking that on board and evolving they’ve took the extreme decision to completely change the social aspect of the business and avoid any responsibility for the negative feedback, reviews and responses to their own behaviour and their announcement of changes. They’ve handled it all appallingly and that’s the reason there are so many disgruntled ex customers.

Changing the social aspect and charging for access is absolutely fine and I’m sure an exciting and positive step in their eyes. However, they did this not only off the back of begging for positive Trustpilot reviews but also without ever acknowledging their poor customer service and handling of certain situations. It’s a matter of blaming trolls and bullying, while hiding away and acting the victim.

MulberryPeony · 01/09/2020 11:51

I don’t recall any screen shots of customers being posted here either. Some customer were discussed as examples of being analysed as the wrong season or shape but never by name either.
