More like Main street kerfuffle :P

Hotelhelp · 04/09/2020 21:22

Just read this whole thread after seeing it all kick off in the group. It always seemed very overly moderated.

I see it became a limited company in March this year by the looks of things so I wonder if this has been in the pipeline for a while.

purpledagger · 04/09/2020 22:43

I'd never heard of SBS before this thread and I found the situation really interesting.

The idea of affordable styling is a brilliant one and I think it could be very successful. The customer complaints are pretty similar in nature and I think they could easily be managed;
Being misdiagnosed - the customer should be able to send a picture of themselves dressed following the stylists advice and state why they are unhappy. The customer and stylist can then discuss the reasons for this.
Generic cut and paste advice - from what I've read, it sounds like customers are sent generic info about their shape, but there is much more to it than that, as you have to consider specific body parts. For example, I'm an inverted triangle and halter necks should work well on me. However I've never felt comfortable in them and that's because I have a short neck and so they don't look right. SBS could still use the generic info to match their affordable price point, but making it more specific to the customer.

The move to a paid monthly subscription also wasn't the best idea, when the 'affordable' price point was the USP. The FB page was a great way to drum up business and without that, I'm now sure how SBS would have the same reach. I just don't see how SBS would be able to generate enough content to keep a subscription site going. After a while, it just becomes rather samey.

I feel sorry for Susie because it sounds like this has been very difficult for her. However, I haven't read many bullying comments from the likes of MN and Tattle which SBS fans have alluded to. I think that if you live by the sword you die by the sword - the same can be said of social media.

It's Main Hustle School!

Anyone else seem to have been removed and blocked from the SBS group even though you did nothing? Very odd behaviour.

I believe that as they are closing the Facebook page they physically have to take everyone off it first. They should just archive it but again bad advice given to Suzy.
Geggs · 05/09/2020 09:19

Yes @MrsMaryBOOface many people were immediately after the announcement just for questioning why or saying they couldn’t afford it, while others were blocked because they joined a new group.

StealthNinjaMum · 05/09/2020 09:20

Isn't it just a slap in the face that they're not even going to archive the facebook page? Given how many people have said it was the best part of the package - and given that most of it was generated by customers - it's astounding that SBS don't realise how inflammatory it is to close the group rather than archive it.

I just saw a post from someone this morning who didn't know the group's closing. There will be people who aren't on fb that much or on holiday who will come back to find it gone. This whole process has been handled at a hundred miles an hour, and it reeks of bad no planning and desperation to get some control back.

SBS should've done this slower. They should've done customer surveys and slowly highlighted the benefits of the system and given sneak previews of the new content and trial memberships to people who had bought analysis's. It was so insensitive to announce that Susie had this amazing big announcement which would actually involve kicking out the majority of her supporters. I hope SBS change their mind and at least archive the facebook group.

YettaTessieMarmelstein · 05/09/2020 09:27

Most podcast producers are on patreon. You still get the podcasts free on apple, Stitcher etc but being a member on Patreon gives you extra benefits like no ads, extra content, special episodes, merchandise etc. And most of them cost less than what SBS is charging.
I think SBS should have kept the Facebook group with the stylists’ outfits, bright fridays etc but had extra stuff on Patreon...like discounts, the chance to ask stylists questions, their top seasonal picks, how to wear different items etc.

Mammabear31 · 05/09/2020 12:10

So I recommended the new group on the SBS Facebook page, some were thinking of starting one so I pointed them in the right direction.

Less than an hour later, booted off!

Geggs · 05/09/2020 12:19

@Mammabear31You weren’t the only one.

And now they’re making yet more false claims about trolling.

StealthNinjaMum · 05/09/2020 12:34

It’s so frustrating to see claims of photos being taken off the group by ‘trolls’ when that never happened. Obviously people will believe it, I probably would if id never seen these threads.

Ironfloor269 · 05/09/2020 12:41

@Mammabear31 to be fair, in her latest post Susie says that they have to actually remove each member before shutting down the SBS group which is why everyone is getting kicked out. But there's no reason why she can't archive the group so people can go back and search for posts but can't comment or write new posts. I just wanted to point out eventually every member, not just you, will be removed.

If anyone's interested The Style Guide by Joy is getting rave reviews. Apparently her book is light years ahead of Susie's cut and paste jobs and her Instagram page is also very good. Off to check that out now.

pangolina · 05/09/2020 12:56

She keeps saying people's photos were posted and it's just a lie! Shameful way to conduct a business

eggofmantumbi · 05/09/2020 13:12

Are they really going to sit there and remove 13k people rather than archive it? Weird

Mammabear31 · 05/09/2020 13:21

I wonder if they're going to remove Emily Hmm

This is what makes ...the customer so angry. People have had bad service, cut and paste jobbies, rudeness etc then she effectively calls them trolls and in addition lines up a load of lies. Now there are obs her cronies on TP doing it too basically with crap like 'Why would anyone think they were getting a bespoke analysis' , ' Don't believe what you read on forums, they are just rivals trying to steal business' . It boils my piss.
YettaTessieMarmelstein · 05/09/2020 13:41

Surely someone who wanted to “troll” could join the patreon group then discuss here or on Tattle what they see. Although I have seen none of the examples mentioned on the latest post. This move is being done to make money. No other explanation makes sense. It is no longer an affordable service for many people. And it is such a shame because the group was a source of support for many.

MrsSchadenfreude · 05/09/2020 14:14

She mentions that a lot of the “vile” messages were sent to her personally, not on the FB page. Wouldn’t you just block the ability to send messages or not read them?

Geggs · 05/09/2020 14:31

If she has indeed been sent vile messages direct, it’s more likely to be as a result of the actions of the company, rather that connected to MN or Tattle.

OrangeCinnamon1 · 05/09/2020 16:01

I really not sure where SBS will get customers from now . I actively avoid duplicitous companies /small businesses and ones actively involved in drama. I hope they can personalise their analyses , build a nice community and stop being funded by hate (Daily Mail) instead of curating a world of sycophants and yes women. That won't pay the other stylists bills.

guidedogneeded · 05/09/2020 16:10

They're taking ages to delete everyone, it's went from 14k members to 13.1K
What a shit show she's made of the whole thing.
Surely archiving the group and telling members to delete their own individual posts if they wanted would have been better.

Most of them we actually leavers after the announcement.
