Alternative to foundation

Help please! I put some makeup on for the first time since March and my foundation just felt really heavy and looked quite "fake" even though it is the Bodyshop Nude one. I think I'm just not used to it anymore. What can I use instead to even out my skin tone and hide blemishes? Need to tone done slightly red nose, hide under eye circles, occasional spots. Would concealer and BB cream do it?

I don't like using foundation either. At the most I will use tinted moisturiser from Laura Mercier but this is only for work. I now like to use Trilogy Rosehip oil between toner and moisturise and I find I have a lovely glow and then use concealer to hide any blemishes which gets less and less the more the Rosehip oil benefits my skin. I get lots of compliments on my skin and a few people ask what foundation I use!

Super, thanks both! I'm quite pale so need a light tone, would that Olay one be too dark do you think?

Lots of people recommending IT CC cream on another thread. Not sure how thick CC cream is.

MolotovMocktail · 24/07/2020 10:41

I use colour correctors (peach for under eyes, green for any areas of redness), a little No 7 BB cream over top then a dab of concealer where needed. I’m fairly pale and the “fair” No 7 BB is a reasonable match.

PIXI h20 skint tint... brilliant stuff!

JorisBonson · 24/07/2020 10:49

Glossier perfecting skin tint is amazing... I got called "glowing" for the first time in my life!

I like this but I think its badly named. It's a very thick, full coverage foundation so probbaly not what the OP is after.

I love Mac face and body- sheer, glowy and can be built up in areas where you want more coverage.

YouStupidBoy · 24/07/2020 10:55

I like Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser - just gives some evenness to my complexion and a little glow.

cwtchesandprosecco · 24/07/2020 11:19

Mac face and body is a very good alternative. My friend was wearing it the other day and it looked very natural. La Roche Possey do a good BB or CC cream, but the range of skin tones is awful. It’s basically very fair or slightly tanned.

TooMinty · 24/07/2020 15:40

Thanks all will check out those recommendations! 😊

Glowing and like me but better is the look I am going for, and definitely not full coverage as I have definitely gone off it since lockdown.

Bobbi brown have a nice tinted moisturiser. It comes in lots of shades. I’m nc10 and don’t look tangoed wearing it

TooMinty · 24/07/2020 19:57

Thanks Zeldaa

I have stereotypical Scottish skin (blue in winter, white in summer) so need to be careful about shades of makeup!

JorisB, do you use this alone? Do you find it gives any coverage? I'm loving the Glossier stuff I have and curious about PST but everyone says it has no coverage at all. I currently use a very sheer L'Oréal Nude Magique cushion compact which is practically invisible anyway, but just sort of evens out my skin tone, so keen to know if this is the same.

Do you use it with futuredew?

JorisBonson · 24/07/2020 21:14

@curlytops21 just with a decent primer underneath (The Ordinary) then the Glossier stretch concealer on any spots or marks and the Winky Lux under eye concealer. A tiny bit of powder if I'm having a particularly shiny day. The tint sits beautifully on my skin and my blusher / highlighter sits well on top of that.

I've had bad skin my whole life which but it's got drastically better over the past year thanks to actually getting things that help it (lockdown and less make up days too!) but if my skin was bad I'd still be using a full foundation.

It really is a miracle in a tube.

Same OP! Glossier thankfully do a "see through skin" shade 😂

Thanks for this! Also have the same Scottish skin 😂. Been looking at this and I think now you have enabled me.... I don't really use a concealer but naturally I feel I must buy that too. I think you can get both for £29.

Off for a nosy. If anyone else is looking at the Glossier stuff, I just posted my referral code in the promo codes forum which will get you 10% off and I get a wee credit too so we all benefit. Ching ching 😍

puzzledpiece · 24/07/2020 21:38

I never wear foundation. My skin feels constantly uncomfortable with it. I use concealer on my nose and under eyes and any uneven areas around my chin.

JorisBonson · 24/07/2020 21:49

Do it @curlytops21, you won't regret it! I don't like wearing foundation or anything like that any more but this feels so light and lovely.

Zeldaaa · 24/07/2020 21:57

JorisBonson which shade do you buy in glossier? I’ve been tempted to buy cloud paint so might try the concealer as well

Thanks. I think I'm convinced. Sitting watching you tube videos about it with a large glass of wine, so it's only a matter of time.

That was actually quite poetic 🤔

I don't ever wear foundation either. Doesn't suit my skin or my age. I've only ever worn a tinted foundation and then this loreal cushion thing which is practically invisible anyway, so I figure this is right up my street 😍. Thanks for helping me spend money and sorry OP for hijacking.

In G12. I got a sample of the red cloud paint and it was fab so will be getting some of that next time!
JorisBonson · 24/07/2020 22:00

It really is a godly experience 😂

JorisBonson · 24/07/2020 22:00

Quote fail, that was for @curlytops21
