Wide leg trousers with trainers - office appropriate?

Clean, naice trainers. Not the manky asics you shuffle out to the bins in at bedtime.

Is it an office appropriate look?

This kind of thing but probably no jacket on an everyday basis. Love the look with a neat fitting Breton, white cotton shirt or fine knit, tucked in.

Am (hopefully 👏🤞) starting a new role (NHS) and just can't do formal office wear/heels. Dress code is not strict, just don't want to push it too far with the trainers.

If inappropriate, what other shoes would be good with this type of trouser?

Sorry OP, I don't think it's really appropriate. Maybe a nice pair of black flats or moccasins?

ImSoMagical · 22/07/2020 22:37

I love that look. It's a yes from me.

CalmConfident · 22/07/2020 22:40

A yes from me, large corporate !

QuentinQuarantino · 22/07/2020 22:41

Moccasins?!!

MOCCASINS??!

I really like that look. Definite yes from me.

Chickenwing · 22/07/2020 22:45

In my office trainers are a no no. You could maybe get away with black trainers if no one was looking....

thethoughtfox · 22/07/2020 22:46

I plan to do wide leg trousers with leather loafers. Same look but more smart casual than just, well, casual.

Todaywewilldobetter · 22/07/2020 22:46

The NHS my mum works for wouldn't let non clinical staff wear trainers. Pillocks!
I think it looks great. I'd have been happy in my office with you in that look - prof servs.

TitianaTitsling · 22/07/2020 22:46

What role in NHS? Corporate or not? Social worker or the like on ward not sure, med secretary with not much public contact prob ok.

BobFleming · 22/07/2020 22:47

Ballet flats? Moccasins? 😂😂😂😂 OK if you want to look like a complete frump.

I love that look OP. I have a colleague that dresses like that (a professional too 😱) and she looks really cool and well put together.

GoldenZigZag · 22/07/2020 22:47

It's a yes from me

CalmConfident · 22/07/2020 22:47

We are not talking runners here...box fresh Vejas or similar all good :)

QuentinQuarantino · 22/07/2020 22:49

To clarify, new role is in the same office I currently work in so no new rules to abide by or any new bosses to impress.

I just personally want to make a wee bit more effort whilst maintaining my personal style (which is admittedly quite quirky. Unusual hair colour/piercings).

GP attire ranges from formal office wear to tunic + leggings and crocs!

Ballet flats are just so depressing aren't they.

They always look like they came from Primark. Even the expensive ones.

No.
If there is an 'office wear' dress code, then that has to be 'no sports wear'.

Don't get me wrong, if you are not customer facing, I don't see why there needs to be a dress code. The occasional day I go in to our office, is actually the occasional day I might wear jeans, as it is a day I 'only' see colleagues. (Although even then, I'll usually wear boots rather than trainers).
However, if you feel the appropriate level of dress is formal trousers, then trainers are a no.

BobFleming · 22/07/2020 22:53

Yes, I think ballet flats ruin whatever they’re worn with. Hideous things.

Member · 22/07/2020 23:03

Yes from me BUT I would probably go for a non-brand white trainer that doesn’t have stripes, swooshes etc so the line between sports shoes & shoes is blurred a bit more!

wishfultinkerer · 22/07/2020 23:03

What kind of office? Law office? Something in creative industries? I like the look and it would be fine in my line of work.

fluffiphlox · 22/07/2020 23:07

I like it and I’m ancient.

EasilyDelighted · 22/07/2020 23:10

Yes from me but agree with keeping to non- branded, non-sporty, neutral styles.

CountFosco · 22/07/2020 23:11

I think it's a great look. Anything else with widelegged trousers looks so dated. I keep lace ups and loafers for ankle skimmers.

feliciabirthgiver · 22/07/2020 23:14

I do like the look, but I'm on the fence with the trainers, I think it's the laces that make them look too casual/sporty, what about something with a zip?

QuentinQuarantino · 22/07/2020 23:14

I totally agree re: trainers. Would stick to plain, not obviously branded ones.

I just really love the smart but still relaxed and cool vibe of this particular style.

PersonaNonGarter · 22/07/2020 23:15

Would be fine in my law office. You might not want to do it on your first day.
