Wide leg trousers with trainers - office appropriate?

Clean, naice trainers. Not the manky asics you shuffle out to the bins in at bedtime.

Is it an office appropriate look?

This kind of thing but probably no jacket on an everyday basis. Love the look with a neat fitting Breton, white cotton shirt or fine knit, tucked in.

Am (hopefully 👏🤞) starting a new role (NHS) and just can't do formal office wear/heels. Dress code is not strict, just don't want to push it too far with the trainers.

If inappropriate, what other shoes would be good with this type of trouser?

Public sector jobs seem to me to often be stuffier/frumpier than modern corporate places. It depends a lot on your manager I think. What do they wear?

Also agree if you wear trainers they need to be combined with smart look up top eg blazer not cardi.

Update:

  1. I got the job 😁😊
  1. I did not wear trainers to the interview 😂

Fabulous news! Well done!

KittyMcKitty · 27/07/2020 17:40

I think it’s a great look (and one I wear myself) and looks great with a nice pair of Stan Smiths! So as long as your work allows trainers then it’s a yes from me! (Please no ballet flats or moccasins!)

Ginfordinner · 27/07/2020 17:41

Well done Wine

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/07/2020 17:42

Well done!

Alsohuman · 27/07/2020 17:46

Congratulations.

MadamShazam · 27/07/2020 18:27

If its NHS, Its absolutely fine. I'm a nurse in a non uniform ward, and I always wear this kind of outfit.

LoveBeingAMum555 · 27/07/2020 21:39

I have got some black leather Fit Flop trainers along the same lines as the Karen Millen ones and I would wear them to the office with wide leg trousers if I didnt have any important meetings. White trainers no matter how nice would be pushing it I think.

Kittykatmacbill · 27/07/2020 22:36

Well done! Have you thought about about campers (dh and his doctor pals wear them) or chunkier soled brogues? Trainers would need to perfect to pull that look off, I am envious of anyone who can pull that look off!

Congratulations!

Consider Vagabond for the leather, plain trainers!

Rollergirl999 · 28/07/2020 17:41

Nobody wears ballet flats anymore - do they? Awful things.

kateybeth79 · 28/07/2020 17:41

I works for the NHS and trainers are allowed in the office.

kateybeth79 · 28/07/2020 17:49

Loads of stores still sell ballet flats; ASOS, Next, Clark's, New Look, M&S, Topshop, Selfridges, & Other Stories. Many come with arch support too.

Diva66 · 28/07/2020 18:11

I’m disabled and can only walk in trainers. So a definite yes from me.

Amiable · 28/07/2020 18:44

Loads of different shoes count as trainers these days. I would not wear them at first, but check what everyone else is wearing and follow accordingly

Ceit · 28/07/2020 18:45

This is similar to what I wear to work in a public sector job; trainers aren't allowed but I wear black leather ones and get away with it.

veryverytiredmummy · 28/07/2020 18:50

I think yes if you're wearing the jacket - gives a smart but confident quirky feel. No if you're not - has casual not smart casual feel for me.

feelingfragile · 28/07/2020 18:52

@LunaNorth

I used to wear a suit and converse when I was teaching. I had a Dr Who thing going on.

Love that look.

Same here when I was a manager in the NHS
Squiz81 · 28/07/2020 19:33

In defence of the second poster they did actually suggest black flats not ballet flats....that said, I do hate ballet flats.

Well done on getting the job, I really like the look you posted. Clark’s have some good trainer/shoe crossover styles in.

What would put me off the white trainers is they would have to look really clean and I know mine get dirty very quickly.

277xo · 28/07/2020 19:34

I love the white trainer look with formal/smarter clothes, it’s also totally acceptable in my office. You also see it styled in a lot of higher end high street stores, Whistles, Jigsaw etc. Veja trainers look good in that style!

RiverCrossing · 28/07/2020 20:49

Also a yes from me! I’m a social worker and live in jeans/blazers and converse, but I love this look and will be looking for some trousers like it! Congratulations Smile

VioletCharlotte · 28/07/2020 20:57

Yes from me! I work for the NHS too and that's the sort of thing I, and many of my colleagues, wear.

(Or rather, we used to. WFH now)

Heygirlheyboy · 28/07/2020 21:33

Remus those M&S too wide for me also, I have a nice pair in petite from Next, thick material part of their tailored range. I wear them with winter supergas in navy and wine as well as with white ones.

Heygirlheyboy · 28/07/2020 21:34

Would love some blazer or brogue recommendations.
