I promised I would post pics of my mini-lift for others who were possibly considering it. I got out of theatre at 2.45 and the swelling is starting to kick in now. Surgeon said that is to be expected. Jowls gone along with burgeoning turkey neck.
Before and immediately after pics wrong way round obvs.
If anyone is interested, I am more than happy to share daily photos.

It already looks amazing.

WinnieLowCo · 25/07/2020 00:13

Wow, this is the procedure id like. Cant afford it. You look good OP
It will be so lovely to look in the mirror and see your old face from ten yrs ago!

HealingCalmingSoothing · 25/07/2020 06:47

Those results are fab, and I have to admit the before pictures were shocking for somebody (me) of your age.

I think you are really brave (and I dont say that lightly) for standing up, not accepting this and doing something about it. I say that after reading your post that you are already motivated and have done everything weight and health wise and this isnt just an easy fix to repair what you may otherwise have been able to.

And I thank you for sharing the photos and showing people what is possible. You certainly didnt have to do that.

Its not something I need to do right now but I will book mark this for future. Good luck with the onward recovery.

@MissJacksonIfYoureNasty
I wonder why Judy Finnegan, who could afford 3k I would have thought, hasn't - her choice obviously but I would consider it if I was financially/personally/logistically able.

Judy is 72 years old and why should she have it?
I think the OP looks great; she looked a lot older previously and this has really made her face and neck appear more youthful. but why imply others should have it if they have the cash? Judy looked wonderful in her 40s. She still looks wonderful now albeit with a flabby neck and face.
Imagine her reading this and hearing that you think she should have it done. Each to their own, but let's not bring individual names into who should have surgery. I persoanlly do not think that is kind.
Have a great weekend.

Sheenais · 25/07/2020 07:43

That is really interesting that menopause brought this on rapidly, because I don’t know many people in their late 40s at that stage yet. It is a sobering thought really. Joys of being a woman huh? You look good though.

Sheenais · 25/07/2020 07:55

Actually could I ask to see some normal pictures of you? All these pictures are obviously very unflattering, I would really like to see how you looked when you weren’t pushing your chin down and when your hair wasn’t plastered back. Like candid smiley pictures, because I think that would be a more accurate ‘before’. Very demanding/cheeky I know, but I just don’t think you actually looked like that in real life. You are only 48.

SparklingLime · 25/07/2020 08:00

There are now some unnecessarily personal and intrusive comments about OP’s pre-surgery appearance. Why do people feel the need?

Yankathebear · 25/07/2020 08:10

You look amazing op. I’m in awe of your skin!

Stinkyjellycat · 25/07/2020 09:09

You look incredible OP. I’d consider this is a couple of years too. It’s great to see such amazing results. Thank for your posting!

Stay123 · 25/07/2020 09:44

Wow, looks good already. Thank you for sharing.

GhostCurry · 25/07/2020 09:49

Sheenais, dial it back a little. I don’t think you intention is to be rude, but your words are harsh. 48 isn’t that young either, sorry to say, it’s perfectly possible for someone to have this skin slackness at that age, even taking the surgical menopause out of the equation.

OP, thank you for posting. Fascinating thread. How is the recovery going?

WinnieLowCo · 25/07/2020 09:51

@RufustheRowlingReindeer

When i had a lower face lift to sort my neck out the surgeon explained that he could only bring the neck back by a small amount as my hyroid bone is comparatively close to my chin

But anything was an improvement 😀

How long did you have to cover the healing scar? They would give the game away if you ventured out too soon!

Not planning a VR lift right now, but in the future if my neck bothered me, I would. So, I'm wondering, if you wanted to get it done on the down low, how long would you need to take off work? Asking for a friend. Grin

Chewbecca · 25/07/2020 10:01

I’m 47 and my jawline has changed significantly in the last year or so.

Your new jawline looks fabulous, you must be very happy with it.

crosseyedMary · 25/07/2020 11:05

@Sheenais 🙄

DameDoom · 25/07/2020 11:07

@Sheenais, I did say in my ‘side on before’ picture that I was quite adept at disguising it by putting my tongue to the roof of my mouth and that is exactly what I would do if I am having a photo taken to look nice.

Here is another picture that may be a little less severe than my close ups but you can definitely see my concern. I have taken the close pictures so that people can see my concerns clearly . I haven’t posed my pictures to look attractive (or worse either), just made sure that I am standing up straight.
The reason I decided to share all this is on the back of another thread where posters wanted to know about something that actually worked for jowls and turkey neck and, as it happened, I had just had my consultation. It’s something I would be interested in knowing and might help me decide how I may or may not want to tackle it. I have been completely transparent and honest on this thread. There are thousands of threads asking for advice and it is freely given but lacks the hard evidence that might be really helpful so I thought I’d do it.

On the question about down time - you read about a mini- lift being a lunch time lift but it most certainly is not!!! The term mini refers to the size of the incisions and it is still a proper operation. I could probably put a face mask on and nip to the Co-op or I might be able to pretend that I had all my wisdom teeth pulled out but the scars are far too obvious at the minute. I have to use antibiotic gel on them which means my hair is sticking to them. Having said that, the swelling is definitely getting better rapidly which is pleasing as I do tend to puff up easily and the bruising has gone down a treat. Hopefully, I will be presentable enough to have a quick amble around town by next Friday when my stitches come out.

i think you are fantastic for sharing all this, and with your reasoning for doing so. A bit of honesty and evidence.
wishing you a speedy recovery.

GhostCurry · 25/07/2020 11:29

OP, if you have any skincare tips to share, I think people would be equally interested! Is there something in your routine that has made a particular difference, to give you that even complexion?

GhostCurry · 25/07/2020 11:32

Couple more questions! Has it changed your earlobe shape? And also - does anyone know why surgeons don’t conceal the scar actually within the hair rather than stitching at the edge of the hairline?

tara66 · 25/07/2020 11:32

Thanks for posting. How long did you stay in the clinic for? Looks good. Will the dent on your left side go away?

crosseyedMary · 25/07/2020 11:33

Dame, I'm thinking it's going to be a little while before you feel confident enough to wash your hair? also noticed you wear your hair in a short bob, do you think that long hair with the weight of it pulling on the stitches could be something of a problem during recovery?
(Imo this kind of thing is very intimate/ personal and it's generous of you to share like this!)

bibbitybobbitycats · 25/07/2020 11:42

The difference is amazing, but I don't think I would be brave enough to do this!

DameDoom · 25/07/2020 11:48

@Ghostcurry retinol in the evening ( adapalene/ differin ) which I get from Boots via online prescription and Skinoren azaleic acid in the morning (ditto). I use Clinique take the day off balm at night and slather on Heliocare factor 50 water gel. As previously mentioned, I have acne and rosacea so have to be really, really careful with what I use. I had an all singing, all dancing routine for years which was doing my skin no favours at all.

Apart from the Heliocare, my routine is not in anyway ‘high end’ but it is very effective. In the past I have had Profhilo and my skin was wow after that but loads of people don’t rate it and I haven’t had it for over a year - it’s expensive too.
I am honestly taken aback that people think my skin is good. Have spent too much time focussing on the dreaded neck and jowls to appreciate the positives.

I have attached earlobes ( hate them with a passion) and they looked very different on Wed and Thurs but can see the ole pixie lugs re-emerging.We’ll have to see how they go.
I have washed my hair and was v careful but any primping and actual styling is out of the question. I am wearing it in a tiny ponytail to air my incisions. I am normally so particular about my hair.
The stitches aren’t at all heavy but they are itchy - I don’t see long hair weighing them down as they are very strong. The sensation around them is tight though and of course they look dreadful at the minute. I have no concerns about them healing as I have seen enough of the surgeon’s final results.
My surgery started at 12pm and I was home with a cup of tea (through a straw) by 3pm. I only live 2 miles away though.
The dent has gone done significantly but is still there. I am also puckered on my left side today despite trying to sleep on my back. They explain that this will happen and to not worry about it.

Great thread.

I was wondering about the dent and the puckering, did the surgeon explain why they appear?
