I promised I would post pics of my mini-lift for others who were possibly considering it. I got out of theatre at 2.45 and the swelling is starting to kick in now. Surgeon said that is to be expected. Jowls gone along with burgeoning turkey neck.
Before and immediately after pics wrong way round obvs.
If anyone is interested, I am more than happy to share daily photos.

Hi DameDoom, thank you for your thread, it really is very altruistic of you. I hope you are feeling better each day, and that your results continue to improve. You're looking great so far, and your skin and hair are lovely too.
Your skincare advice is really helpful too - may I ask how you get the precription stuff online? Do you need a GP referral? I have similar skin issues to yours (or what you used to have!) I think.
Also, can you explain what the term 'VR' means in the VR lift?
I'm from up your way originally (down south now), but visit family in Yorkshire so might have a detour to your surgeon's office in the near future for a consultation.

EyesWithAFace · 25/07/2020 13:35

missrks - would you mind saying which website (ie.which surgeon/practitioner?) those photos came from?
I'm finding it hard to believe they are the same person, but the ears do look the same. I reckon there must be a bit of photoshopping or something going on though. In the second photo she's got the jawline and profile of Angelina Jolie!

DameDoom · 25/07/2020 14:40

@allEyesWithAFace. All online - you can do this at every online pharmacy as they do a very brief questionnaire and ask for a couple of photos. It pays to shop around pharmacies for the best offers as you can get huge variations in price.
I must also say that I have not had a sniff of booze for nearly a year- not one drop - that and virtually no sugar has made an enormous difference.

Oh sorry, not sure what VR lift stands for but I do know that it is Nick Rhodes’ own technique and that he developed it from a technique popularised in Belgium.
@Sheenais, I did say in my ‘side on before’ picture that I was quite adept at disguising it by putting my tongue to the roof of my mouth and that is exactly what I would do if I am having a photo taken to look nice.

Here is another picture that may be a little less severe than my close ups but you can definitely see my concern. I have taken the close pictures so that people can see my concerns clearly . I haven’t posed my pictures to look attractive (or worse either), just made sure that I am standing up straight.
The reason I decided to share all this is on the back of another thread where posters wanted to know about something that actually worked for jowls and turkey neck and, as it happened, I had just had my consultation. It’s something I would be interested in knowing and might help me decide how I may or may not want to tackle it. I have been completely transparent and honest on this thread. There are thousands of threads asking for advice and it is freely given but lacks the hard evidence that might be really helpful so I thought I’d do it.

On the question about down time - you read about a mini- lift being a lunch time lift but it most certainly is not!!! The term mini refers to the size of the incisions and it is still a proper operation. I could probably put a face mask on and nip to the Co-op or I might be able to pretend that I had all my wisdom teeth pulled out but the scars are far too obvious at the minute. I have to use antibiotic gel on them which means my hair is sticking to them. Having said that, the swelling is definitely getting better rapidly which is pleasing as I do tend to puff up easily and the bruising has gone down a treat. Hopefully, I will be presentable enough to have a quick amble around town by next Friday when my stitches come out.
This isn't relevant but this looks like a conceptual album cover from a super cool artist!

justanotherneighinparadise · 25/07/2020 16:45

When you say Boots online prescription, is this something you can just do online or is it prescribed by a dermatologist or something?

I’m 45 and my skin is starting to look a bit crepe. I also have rosacea, so I’m very interested.

Placement

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 25/07/2020 20:29

This is a really interesting story, I’d love to have this procedure done, I’ve had a peek at the website and I’m only an hour from York!

Concestor · 25/07/2020 20:42

My jawline has really geive South in recent years so this is really helpful to read. I definitely want this done. I've had plastic surgery twice before so am no stranger to the scalpel, and I know what a huge difference it can make to self esteem. Seeing your pictures usually so helpful.

RonaldMcDonald · 25/07/2020 20:53

I had a thread lift
The effect was good
I,didn’t want to go under the knife and was worried I wouldn’t like it

RonaldMcDonald · 25/07/2020 20:57

@EyesWithAFace she has clearly had filler in her chin and jawline too

MissJacksonIfYoureNasty · 25/07/2020 23:26

@go You are quite right in what you say - I thought of JF as my face will look like hers but I had totally forgotten she was 72, in my head she was much, much younger. I doubt she would have any fucks to give but you are right that I should not have projected onto her. Have a good weekend - you, too Brew Cake

Sheenais · 26/07/2020 02:08

OP, I was not intending to be rude, sorry if it came across that way. I just never found the before photos you see on websites that helpful because they are extreme close up and unflattering. (And no one looks all that then) The album cover 😂 actually gives me a better idea of your before, because your upper face looks 10+ years younger than your lower face so I do get your concerns, whereas your other pictures just look unflattering and not necessarily accurate.

WinnieLowCo · 26/07/2020 08:48

@sheenais, I was actually thinking about the before but decided not to type it.

The thing is though, you have to read the whole thread and not skim read to see that that is not the inevitable fate for any woman in her forties looking at that photo thinking holy god is that what my neck will look like in just a few years!!??

OP explained that she did feel she aged suddenly and excessively in a short period of time.

I completely get the decision to fix it. I think we can all (just about!) accept the inevitable, but to accept accelerated ageing, that's a big ask!

I'm interested in what @DameDoom does with her tongue. What is this? is this like face yoga? Does it pull up that muscle? I tried doing it in front of the mirror and I couldn't see it from the outside.

Pikachubaby · 26/07/2020 11:14

I have just taken a lot of side-on selfies to assess my neck/jowls Grin

Anyone else?

At 48 these changes in skin tone can really creep up on you Sad

DameDoom · 26/07/2020 11:43

@Sheenais, no problem at all - I know what you meant so that’s why I posted the conceptual cover Grin but I do think the close up really highlights the crepey sagginess and shows that it’s not just a double chin.
I have also be careful to use the term ‘concern’ and not ‘problem’ as I know that lots of others would not be bothered about stuff like this; however, I am also aware that there are many of us who might be and are interested in how it could be properly and realistically tackled.

I wish there were more threads like this, it's so helpful. Thank you for sharing OP & your results look great!

QueenCT · 26/07/2020 19:58

I can see how it suddenly happens. I went through a lot of physical pain (was on everything including morphine) for months before an emergency spinal op
Anyway after the op I was doing my skincare and looked back at some old photos and in the mirror and I still looked in pain. Had developed giant 11 lines basically because of all the frowning and it was a shock how quick they had appeared
Had Botox as to me it wasn't "natural" ageing, and I was sick of looking in pain when I wasn't IYSWIM

justanotherneighinparadise · 26/07/2020 21:39

OP please answer my question re. the items you mentioned ash’s whether they required a prescription from a derm 🙏🏻

justanotherneighinparadise · 26/07/2020 21:39

*earlier

DameDoom · 26/07/2020 22:53

@justanotherneighinparadise you can do this all yourself, no need for recourse to your GP.
If you wanted to get both prescriptions at the same time then you would have to most probably use two different online pharmacies.
There are literally hundreds to choose from but the price points are variable so check them out so that you don’t pay over the odds. I chop and change pharmacies all the time but Boots and Superdrug are easy places to start and their prices reasonable.

Hi OP how are you feeling today?

If I can be curious how is your face feeling? Does it feel like it belongs to you? (That sounds really daft written down). What I'm trying to ask is is it really painful and you're too stiff to move yet? Or is it settling down a bit?

That's a lot of question marks, sorry.
