I went to my local John Lewis today ( first visit since March) and was so disappointed to find that they are no longer stocking Toast clothes in the store. Online only. I wanted to look at the new range. There is no Toast shop near to me so you lot will have to help me out please!

StyleandBeautyfail · 03/09/2020 20:12

@neveradullmoment99

I love the gingham skirt too but i know it will be pretty tight on the waist and i dont suit gathers as my waist is quite high and it adds bulk. Its beautiful but also nearly £200!
I will report back about the gingham skirt. It should arrive tomorrow. Yep £199 😬 However they now have a woolly hat for £89 !
neveradullmoment99 · 03/09/2020 20:23

@Gonegrey31 my JL too. :(

neveradullmoment99 · 03/09/2020 20:25

Oh yes do @StyleandBeautyfail It looks stunning. Bet it sells out too!

Countmeout · 04/09/2020 07:27

The gingham skirt looks fantastic, looking forward to seeing pictures of people who have ordered it.
I’m waiting in trepidation for an eBay purchase (which I fear may tip me over into Vera territory )
While waiting for a Toast code ( yes I remember one last September - but also think it was followed by a mid season sale) I’ve ordered an orange cashmere jumper from JL to try, after the Toast t in orange being the wrong shade of orange I fear their cashmere jumper may be the same. But I’ve ordered socks just to ‘test’ my post pass 😳 I love the socks.

Moominmammaatsea · 04/09/2020 12:14

Posting from a beach in Northumberland to let everyone know there are a few more sale items on JL. I’ve just succumbed to the orange honeycomb dress, which I’ve been lusting over all season and sale, as a last-gasp hurrah. I’m hoping I can wear it with a cardigan and opaque tights and brogues in the autumn? It will also be an ideal dress for any socially-distanced Christmas and festive celebrations we may be permitted to host or attend.

neveradullmoment99 · 04/09/2020 17:31

Thanks for that I got the check seersucker blouse. Its rather nice!

neveradullmoment99 · 04/09/2020 19:22

Ok so check dress. Its nice but not quite as expected. I sort of thought soft brushed cotton but is more of a shirt material. The print is lovely. It dips at the back. Im tired tonight so cba to do a complete try on but will tomorrow at some point.
As for the tank, its lovely. A bit itchy and im not sure if that means its a fail tbh. Its also not as slouchy as the model. Bit dissapointed. On a plus, its thick, warm and a lovely knit. Jury is out though. They are back in stock now as i thought.

StyleandBeautyfail · 04/09/2020 19:42

The 2 skirts came today and the gingham check skirt is absolutely exquisite.
Its not tight at all around the waist, Im a size 12 and it fits perfectly, mid calf and Im tall.
They had one left in the shop so I wouldnt wait for the sale if you really want it.
Not sure if you can see in the pictures on the website but its one central flat pleat with 2 smaller pleats on each side .
The waistband is flat and 3 inches deep plus the pleats are stitched at the top so no tummy/hip flare. Just perfect.
The black denim skirt -aaaaargh!
Size 12 was like a binbag, absolutely huge.
Was very crabby about this and had a free afternoon so decided to drive to the nearest Toast shop 😂
So glad I did as the 10 fits beautifully, again similar style but has side buttons and no tummy or hip flaring.
So swapped sizes.
I also spotted the crinkled cotton check dress and tried it on .A medium was huge so went for a small.
I wouldnt have looked twice at it on the website.
Its a cotton gauze outer and fully lined with a cotton gingham.
I know I will wear it to death.
Got some Falke tights and some of their cashmere socks to wear in bed.
Went to my favourite bookshop .
Utter heaven
To round it off I managed to get a pedi and have grey/ blue toenailsSmile

That sounds a heavenly afternoon @StyleandBeautyfail.

My denim side-button dress arrived today. I am worried it's too big around the top half. On the other hand, plenty of space for a jumper underneath! Obviously a chunky jumper wouldn't look right though. I'll try to post a picture perhaps. I wish I could sew and then I'd take in the sides a little.

Moominmammaatsea · 04/09/2020 20:10

@neveradullmoment99, I wish I had seen that shirt when I bought my dress as it would totally have been in my shopping bag! Glad you managed a last-hurrah bargain.

@StyleandBeautyfail, your day out sounds like something I will definitely plan once the children are back at school next week (sob); one into Y8 and the other starting reception. I CANNOT WAIT! Your pedicure sounds fab.

I’m pleased that the gingham skirt is such a winner - maybe I’ll put it on my wish list for Father Christmas (I really deserve it after lone home schooling and parenting a 12-year-old and four-year-old since March, without an iota of help. And we’re still all speaking to each other 😁). Did you buy any new books to round off your shopping trip (always looking for recommendations)?

Are you near a Toast shop? They do alterations for free I think. Or find a local laundry or check your dry cleaners. They often do alterations.

Ah yes it was bliss !
I wish I understood Toast sizing though.
I would prefer it if they just gave the garment measurements instead of all that fannying about with which shops you wear what size in.

You totally deserve it.
Really you are all amazing - anyone who has homeschooled and some people had to WFH as well. No idea how stressful that must be.
Go for a nice quiet coffee in peace once they are dropped off.
I always belted off for a nice quiet mooch in town, I may have punched the air.Blush

Im not a " oh no how will I do without them" crying type of mother at all 😬

MotherofPearl · 04/09/2020 21:23

Thanks @StyleandBeautyfail, those are all good ideas. No Toast shop near me unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately!) plus this was an EBay 'new with tags' buy. I will ask at the dry cleaners - I'm pretty sure I've seen a sign up about them doing alterations. I love the dress though so I'm hanging onto it no matter what!

neveradullmoment99 · 04/09/2020 21:54

@MotherofPearl, I found that dress incredibly big on me. Even when i sized down it just didn't look right and i had ordered it in the toast sale last summer. It just made me look like a giant child. I think what was wrong was that it was just too long on me. Had it been shorter, it would have been fine. I'm 5ft 6 so i had returned it. I do think its really lovely if you can get it to work for you or take it to a seamstress to have altered. It is beautiful and totally in love with the indigo colour.

MotherofPearl · 04/09/2020 22:01

It doesn't help that I have a very odd body shape. Size 6 on top (extremely flat chested! Blush) and a solid 10 on the bottom half (nudging a 12 what with the Covid Kilos).

Countmeout · 05/09/2020 10:23

@neveradullmoment99 is that the green and black checked dress? I imagined it having a soft feel too. That’s quite disappointing.

slipperyeel · 05/09/2020 10:44

I need a day out in Oxford to myself which includes a visit to toast, lunch and a wander around the ashmolean

neveradullmoment99 · 05/09/2020 15:47

No its not that one. Its the dark navy check. Its much more subtle. Saying that, i think the green check one is more like shirt material too.
Its the cotton swingy shirt dress.

Gonegrey31 · 05/09/2020 15:49

My Toast purchases have arrived. The Bea nightshirt- just lovely and soft. And the Cashmere wool wrap scarf in navy. That’s my indulgence for the Autumn but my excuse is my cold and draughty house. The wrap is sumptuous and generous in size. Thrilled with both items. Best stop looking at the website now!

Countmeout · 05/09/2020 18:03

And my eBay purchase (Vera homage item) has arrived . I am toying with getting it shortened as it’s 120cm and I am 5’4”. Any thoughts anyone Or should I just swish about?
This it it. Obvs that’s not me and I. Am not quite so lithe. Although the small fits generously.

ilovecherries · 05/09/2020 20:23

Oh, I’d swish in that, count. It’s gorgeous. I am buying nothing till I get a code. I tried using my daughter email address to get a mention me code, but as soon as I put the address in it told me to bugger off with my nefarious attempts.

Countmeout · 06/09/2020 08:18

Thanks cherries have discovered if I wrap it rather than button it I can get away with the belt without looking too sack like. Had planned on not using the belt.
Shame about the mention me - it had occurred to me to try that too. Fingers crossed a code will be along in a minute and/or the mid season sale, who mentioned the code up thread? Have you any idea what date that was?
I’ve 4 items on my wish list, realistically probably will buy 2 of them when a discount appears.

slipperyeel · 06/09/2020 13:12

I’ve ordered the cotton swingy shirt dress, it looks ideal for working from home. Smart enough for video calls but comfortable too.
I’ve also ordered my 3rd Bea nightdress Blush

faustina · 06/09/2020 13:56

... about the mention me thing... if you have an adult son or daughter who don't live with you - or a friend - and they place an order using the mention me code - as a very lovely gift for you so it gets sent to your address (and for which you reimburse them). And THEN because they've placed an order, you could get another code for referring them.

This is just a theory obviously Wink
