@AuldFox

I got the Kado dress and it only just fits on the bosom. The waist is rather loose. After all my roomy Toast dresses, it was surprising to find something neatly fitting! I reckon I could do with losing another 5 lbs though....
Yes much neater than others . I’ve weight to lose too though.
paintyhands · 02/08/2020 17:19

@Moominmammaatsea I have the Ida dress and l, having worn it a couple of times, I’m not sure about it. I think it’s the colour on me too so it might well end up on EBay very soon! On the other hand I collected the Anni dress today and I really love it.

Moominmammaatsea · 02/08/2020 18:38

@paintyhands, I collected the Ida dress yesterday and I was actually very pleasantly surprised by it. However, it didn’t come with the long wrap belt - I must admit, I did have to check the product description to ascertain that the belt was an integral accessory as I think Toast has been guilty this past season of photographing dresses etc over/with other garments and accessories. I took it straight to Waitrose to send back to JL and then felt mildly miffed and cheated of a beautiful dress that I’d previously overlooked a million times!

A size 12 popped up during the course of the day, closely followed by a size 10, so I’m hoping that one of the two will fit (it seems fairly true to size) and come with the requisite belt.

Incidentally, the pattern and colours of the print look brilliant with my new rose gold Saltwaters, as handpicked by the JL elves, rather than the mundane red pair that I mistakenly had the temerity to order!

paintyhands · 02/08/2020 18:54

@Moominmammaatsea it was clearly meant to be with the gold saltwaters! Mine did come with the belt but I’ve been experimenting with different belts. Not sure it’s a keeper. Was hoping it would work layered with a long sleeved top underneath for autumn but I feel the cotton is very lightweight so perhaps just a summer item.

Saurus72 · 02/08/2020 19:12

Thank you for the kind comments about the bag Smile.
I washed the linen boy t-shirt (30 degrees) and it seems to be shorter than before. It’s not a huge issue but I wouldn’t be happy if I’d paid full price tbh.
@Moominmammaatsea I love that your mistake pair of Saltwaters are turning out to be perfect. Maybe a life lesson to a control freak like me..!

Moominmammaatsea · 02/08/2020 19:56

@paintyhands, I think the Anni will prove to be the one that got away for me; the one that I will curse myself for not buying in the wee small hours when I’m awake for many hours (too many fostered babies over the years have shot my sleep pattern to pieces!). I think I just got too irritated by the untidiness of the Toast photos of it worn over the same print skirt! Grin

@Saurus72, I hear you, this whole JL 70 per cent off sale has been a massive sartorial exercise that has pushed me out of my style comfort zone. I have very definitely been stuck in an indigo/utility chic style rut in previous years so it’s been very enjoyable to be able to explore strong prints and patterns and shapes I’d never normally consider. At £45 a dress rather than £150, and with free delivery and returns, it feels fairly risk averse. And I like to think I’m doing my (affordable) bit to help fuel the post-Covid economy - and keep JL and Toast in business.

I was shocked to walk up Upper Street in Islington on Saturday to discover how many we’ll-established mainstream and niche brands have shut up shop since March (Albam/Oliver Bonas/Monsoon etc).

Saurus72 · 02/08/2020 20:17

Oh, how was your trip to London? I haven’t been to Upper Street since February and can’t see when I’ll get there again tbh, unlikely to be this year I would think. Did you go to Tate Britain/Modern?

Gymntonic · 03/08/2020 13:43

Fate has decreed that I will be spending some of this week on the Gower, with a packet of wet wipes and a chemical toilet for ablutions.
Google maps telling me this will bring me close to Llantrisant and it's archive of Toast wearsShock. Hoping they're open. Need to decide which dress the pack from my Toast archive so that they at least let me over the threshold. Good job I bought all those floaty cotton frocksWink

AFingerofFudge · 03/08/2020 13:47

It's been a quiet couple of days on here, hope everyone is ok!
Has anyone had an unexpected success with any Toast item bought through the JL sale?
Last week I bought the poplin oversize shirt and I absolutely love it! It is so crisp and gorgeous but I only ordered it because it was in the sale so I thought I'd just see
@neveradullmoment99 did you get the gingham top with the buttons on the back? How is it?

neveradullmoment99 · 03/08/2020 14:18

Yes its lovely @AFingerofFudge
Its a little wide at the shoulders but looks fine. Its fairly generous even as a small. Will be useful. I also ordered the short sleeved linen jumper today in spice as i had seen it on @laska and really liked it with her blue trousers. That should arrive ready to collect tomorrow but i am in no rush to collect it as i feel that is all i have done is appear at click and collect in my local waitrose. I am turning into a regular. I ordered the full price Annie crop indigo jeans. They are gorgeous but neat so i will do what others have advised and move the buttons.

AFingerofFudge · 03/08/2020 14:43

@neveradullmoment99 I'm such a regular in my local Waitrose as 2 of the DC's have student jobs there so I do my top up shops (things I can't get in Aldi) in there as I get a 25% discount.
I've collected and returned so many parcels that they've stopped asking for my ID Blush

neveradullmoment99 · 03/08/2020 14:49

ha ha ha...:) That will be me very soon. 25% is an amazing discount!

applecatchers36 · 03/08/2020 17:20

Some pics of Toast in real life, this season's sale purchase bone jumper and previous season Navy cotton lightweight coat clothes perfect for a British summer 😂

Gonegrey31 · 03/08/2020 17:28

I too have the long sleeved bone jumper and I am so pleased with it. ( I may have also picked up the cap sleeved one too....)

Moominmammaatsea · 03/08/2020 19:47

@Saurus72, we’re having a lovely time, thanks; RA Picasso & Paper (again) yesterday, Masculinities at the Barbican today (plus the Conservatory, which was a big hit with the children and an amazing hidden gem of an oasis for all of us). Tomorrow it’s Andy Warhol at the Tate Modern & Thursday it’s Titian at the National Gallery, plus the Natural History Museum on Friday.

I’ve brought my whole Toast 70 per cent off wardrobe with me and it’s been lovely to blend in so well here (rightly or wrongly, I’m sometimes a bit self-conscious that some of the Toast prints are a bit to outré for the small Yorkshire country village we inhabit).

In other Toast news, the replacement Ida size 10 came with the belt missing from my previous order and I LOVE it! I’ll be liberating a size 12 back to JL tomorrow (and it has its belt - I checked.)

I visited the Upper Street Toast ship for a nano-second on Saturday (hard to shake off my pesky kids Grin) and I bought - with some recent birthday money - the bleu de chauffe teeny-tiny bag (I forget who has this) and was very pleased to be given a very pleasing pottery salt dish (Wonki Ware?). I hope to have some more child-free time to visit the shop again and have a proper nosy; my overriding impression was of lots of shades of heather, pumpkin and apple green.

Moominmammaatsea · 03/08/2020 19:53

@Gymntonic, so jealous of your Gower Peninsula camping trip. We normally spend each August in Pembrokeshire but this year booked an extra-special trip to Japan - and the rest, as they say, is history. Enjoy your trip, it’s a very beautiful part of Wales and you will not be disappointed.

Moominmammaatsea · 03/08/2020 20:17

@applecatchers36, lovely photos - you’ve upped the game on the in-the-mirror snaps (which I have been tentatively practising). You could do with loaning that parka to Gymntonic for her to wear over her floaty summer dresses in Wales. Grin

Moominmammaatsea · 03/08/2020 20:24

@AFingerofFudge, I’d have to describe the Ida as my unexpected success in the JL sale (now I have one with the matching belt); I’d overlook it a squillion times for being, well, brown, but it’s actually very becoming shades of cinnamon and spice. It’s the perfect length for me, easy to wear, and will be cool enough to wear in London when it’s forecast to be 33-degrees towards the end of the week. It’s been a good lesson in never judging a book by its cover - and looking past my prejudice against brown!

applecatchers36 · 03/08/2020 21:27

Moomin it's great when you have an unexpected success and something surprises you like that. sometimes I can't think when I would wear something and might inadvertently overlook a real wardrobe work horse ...

How was the Masculinity exhibition at the Barbican? thought that looked really interesting and topical with all the toxic masculinity around us...

Dottty · 03/08/2020 21:33

I am wondering if the cotton Oxford dress may be my surprise sale success which I managed to grab this morning. I worry it may be a little too voluminous but looking forward to trying it.

Saurus72 · 03/08/2020 22:14

@Dottty Are JL still updating the website early mornings? I seem to have missed it..,

I do have several new collection mini obsessions. This jumper is just delicious www.johnlewis.com/toast-mira-striped-wool-blend-jumper-squash-multi/p5093260

Loving this - though may well be a disaster in reality. In my head I’m wearing it with opaque bouts and high ankle boots: www.johnlewis.com/toast-needlecord-pleat-dress-slate-blue/p5049166

neveradullmoment99 · 03/08/2020 22:58

@Dotty I have the cotton oxford dress [ The tiered blue one] I sized down in it. It is gorgeous!

Dottty · 04/08/2020 06:26

@neveradullmoment99 and @Saurus72 thanks. I look forward to picking the dress up later. I am not sure when JL are updating their website but whenever I check they have added a few little things. It seems to be any time. I was very pleased to get the seersucker wrap dress for £48 which means I can return the one I bought to Toast at £95.

albird · 04/08/2020 12:13

I bought the Bone jumper that Applecatchers has which I love but its a really snug fit - I'm new to Toast (although I now have quite a collection thanks to this thread) so I was wondering if their garments shrink at all on washing? Its a linen/cotton blend. Im keeping my eye out for the larger size on JL but keep missing their updates. Wore my new Felix Cotton canvas trousers in Ash green yesterday for the first time with a Hush camo vest - felt great!

Gymntonic · 04/08/2020 17:00

@Moominmammaatsea it's a beautiful part of the world and already working its magic.
Bit rainy this afternoon though so brought the llandeilo trip forward.
Toast shop open and friendly. Small queue for the shop with the current collection so I made do with just the sale shopHalo.
A fair few faves from the v recent sale, especially in sizes 8 and 14. I made do with a a poplin dress from a year or so ago, a beautiful lightweight merino knit and the Anokhi print wrap dress in teal that I've been kicking myself for not nabbing sooner. Might go back for a red cardi in x small. It looked big enough but...
