Dotty, you hit the jackpot with that dress, that beats all the rest of the bargains hands down.

Countmeout · 26/07/2020 19:01

@faustina apart from the nail coming through the sole of one foot what put me off was my feet looking like my mother circa 1940-50. Might look trendy on someone young but just made me look old.
I have Stan Smiths but they chew my heels and I haven’t persisted with them. My gazelles are comfortable but black.
I like the Novestas from Toast but the instep support means they’re not a great walking shoe.
I really want something for between days, you know in September/October.
I’ve ordered a couple of pairs from ASOS to try. Brogue type.

@ellequick that’s a brilliant bargain. No advice on shoes, I’m obviously hopeless with shoes.

Alsohuman · 26/07/2020 19:05

@Countmeout, would these work? I have three pairs and they’re my go to in between seasons. They’re so comfortable and they work with skirts and trousers.

Countmeout · 26/07/2020 19:09

Thank you @Alsohuman, I’ll have a look.

faustina · 26/07/2020 19:16

@Countmeout - have you looked at Grenson and penelope chilvers? Both pricey but good

Dottty · 26/07/2020 19:25

@alsohuman oh I love these.

Moominmammaatsea · 26/07/2020 19:28

@Countmeout, I can heartily recommend Cheaney brogues & boots, as sold by Toast. They are made by hand in Northampton, and you can send them back to be repaired/resoled/re-heeled so that a pair of shoes can last you a lifetime. I have, ahem, several (I don’t event want to count) pairs.

Alsohuman · 26/07/2020 19:32

Oh Gregson are lovely, the sale’s still on too. Rogue Matilda’s a good shout too if you like something a bit more “out there”. I’ve got Pear Drop but I have to be feeling quite extrovert to wear them. Can you tell I love shoes?

ellequick · 26/07/2020 19:39

Oh thank you for the lovely comments all. I’ve realised I don’t have any brown shoes at all at the moment... more shopping for me, eeeek.

@Gymntonic the material is actually really quite light I would say, I wouldn’t describe it as winter weight. I hope you like it too, it feels lovely on!

Moominmammaatsea · 26/07/2020 20:24

@ellequick, how about tan or navy blue Saltwater sandals to summer-ise the dress and then consider boots and tights when the weather changes?

goldpendant · 26/07/2020 21:18

@Alsohuman how have I never come across RougeMatilda before??!

Alsohuman · 26/07/2020 21:58

Nice, aren’t they?

Railingsohno · 27/07/2020 00:18

I’ve missed so much!!!

@ellequick I’ve got that dress but haven’t worn it yet. I agree that something brown/tan would look good. Trainers too. Boots. I’ll probably end up with a big trying on session.

Talking of summer shoes - I wear simple black havianas flip flops, Stan Smiths and I’ve just bought Nike Blazers. I also have smarter flats for work in various colours.

Laska2Meryls · 27/07/2020 07:54

Hmm Rogue Matilda.. yet another fab site !! I have no money left !! 🙄😂
Coming still from fan JK sale.. Alix in slate , 2 toast tees pebble gathered shoulder and white linen all of which I shall probably keep
And random And/or animal print blouse which may well go back and a Hush Tee..
Luckily my latest batch of ebay selling is going well ..
Ihave saltwaters in gold, navy, red and khaki, on 2nd pairs of both gold and navy ones , I wear them so much..
Winter its usually boots for me, but I do have quite a few pairs of leather trainers in various colours but all traditional 'Fred Perry sneakers' style..

Laska2Meryls · 27/07/2020 07:56

Fan JK sale? ( I haven't had my coffee yet, am barely literate beforehand!)
Fab JL Sale! ( It was, wasn't it?😄)

Laska2Meryls · 27/07/2020 07:58

Oh and rose gold saltwaters, that I have never worn , I much prefer the traditional gold.. I keep thinking of ebaying those, then put them back in cupboard..

Rosebath · 27/07/2020 09:54

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but Toast are doing some online workshops: www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/toast-14905763036

I quite fancy the art of repair one - I've done a lot of visible darning on holey jumpers and I really like how it looks!

Laska2Meryls · 27/07/2020 10:35

Ooh Rosebath They look good .. I am up for art of repair also and Natural Indigo Dyeing is right up my street!! Thanks ..

Hopefully my projected ebay sales this week will generate enough to enable me to order the Toast navy and ecru broken stripe jumper and the striped Ema Tee (using my 20% mention me that I have) .. its nearly enough so far Smile

Laska2Meryls · 27/07/2020 10:35

Have booked in to tonight's class!

ilovecherries · 27/07/2020 12:07

The indigo dress is re-wrapped already. I looked like a Star Trek escapee in it.

Alsohuman · 27/07/2020 12:32

I bet you didn’t but that’s beside the point, no point in keeping anything that you’re not 100% happy with - eyes the linen and merino jumper!

My mum was an absolutely exquisite darner, her darns were works of art. I so wish I’d got her to teach me. It’s really sad to think it’s literally a dying skill.

Saurus72 · 27/07/2020 13:06

@ilovecherries yep, I had the exact same issue 😊

neveradullmoment99 · 27/07/2020 14:16

cherries So strange. I wonder why the dress is ok on me? Or maybe I am deluded. It doesn't stick out on me. Might just be the different shape of shoulders?

neveradullmoment99 · 27/07/2020 14:16

The black was however like that but still passable.

neveradullmoment99 · 27/07/2020 14:21

Here is a cropped photo of it
