What's the next jeans shape going to be?

I've been wearing skinnies for years but think they will start to look a bit dated this winter. Any thoughts on what the next shapes will be? My daughter says mum jeans. Can anyone explain the difference between "mum", "boyfriend " and " straight " please?

I'm back in boot cut ultra low rise. I can't stand high rise in any style.

Livedandlearned · 18/07/2020 10:39

I loved boot cut in my twenties. I might go back. Do they work with trainers though?

tenterden · 18/07/2020 11:00

I agree - I think skinnies are starting to look dated now, even though I am middle aged/old Grin

I am wearing straight and bootcut.

I wear bootcut with trainers Lived and they are fine. Mine are mid rise, I cannot wear low rise, they feel really uncomfortable to me but I do have a little bit of a paunchy tummy Blush

I don't like Mum jeans at all.

Ginfordinner · 18/07/2020 16:56

Do they work with trainers though?

Only if it isn't raining Grin
For me, that was the major drawback of bootcut. And I live in a damp part of the world.

Livedandlearned · 18/07/2020 18:23

Oh yes I forgot all about the bottoms of bootcut jeans absorbing half a puddle Grin

TroysMammy · 18/07/2020 18:27

Ones shaped like a flower pot please. I've got a thickening menopausal waist and slim legs. I'm starting to resemble a Robin.

DinosaurOfFire · 19/07/2020 00:29

@squeekums thank you! They look perfect, exactly what I've been trying to find. How do you find the sizing in comparison the uk sizes?

squeekums · 19/07/2020 01:47

@DinosaurOfFire

faceoff.com.au/sizing-charts

They run their international size guides after
But id also bring up one on google for the uk and match across, they generally run on smaller side but offer stretch in the jeans

CurlyhairedAssassin · 23/07/2020 13:21

But what do you all wear with non-skinny jeans if you want to look a bit dressier? Is "skinny jeans a nice top" totally out now?

No clue what looks good and what's in fashion for a smart casual look and need to go on a massive shopping spree.

TornadoOfSouls · 23/07/2020 14:07

Skinnies are over, but if you are the right shape for them they will always look good, I think.

Personally I love straight jeans, mid rise. Really almost a ‘traditional’ jeans look. Mine have a touch of the mum jean about them, but my bottom is too big for the full mum look. I will never go back to bootcuts or flares - I’m much too short for them and they are a footwear nightmare.

IndecentFeminist · 23/07/2020 14:47

This is my issue, what footwear to go for when weather turns.

LightOfAThousandStars · 24/07/2020 20:32

I've switched over to slim jeans recently from skinnies and they are so much more comfortable especially when it's hotter outside. I picked up a few online in the Next sale and have also ordered bootcut to try next.

blurghye · 24/07/2020 20:44

This generation don't seem half as interested in it as mine was. They've found other ways to make us feel irrelevant

🤣

blurghye · 24/07/2020 20:48

I think skinny jeans have hung around as they are easier than other styles to wear in the evening & people don't want to give up jeans for those circumstances.

I have gone straighter & have some boyfriends that I like. Like them both rolled up in summer but not sure about winter as I don't like them with boots. I find mum jeans very hard to wear as they flatten & elongate bums.

Standrewsschool · 24/07/2020 20:56

I’ve got straight and bootcuts. Bootcuts suit my pear figure. Never got into skinnies.

As others have said, the best jeans are the ones that suit your figure.

cosmo30 · 24/07/2020 21:10

I wear my moms jeans rolled up with converse. Would look good with doc Martin style boots too. They are really comfy !

IndecentFeminist · 24/07/2020 21:30

I've just bought a couple of pairs of m&s on eBay to try, some girlfriend and straight.

cosycatsocks · 24/07/2020 21:53

Voluminous jeans

cosycatsocks · 24/07/2020 21:53

Mom jeans are ovah

TornadoOfSouls · 24/07/2020 21:57

What’s next cosycatsocks? Please don’t say flares.

ParcelFarce · 24/07/2020 22:07

@motherofgod2 I love those jeans you posted on page 1 - where are they from?

cosycatsocks · 24/07/2020 22:13

90s skater jeans, big, baggy

blurghye · 24/07/2020 22:15

I can't do 90s since I was a tween then

motherofgod2 · 24/07/2020 22:30

@ParcelFarce they're from ASOS. I'm quite tempted by them myself!

Alongcameacat · 25/07/2020 00:48

I think people Should wear the jeans that look good on there body shape

This ^^
But many people don’t know what suits them.
Skinnies really don’t suit many people. To look good, the wearer must be either petite or tall, very slim, with a very defined waist, a pert middle sized bum with shapely thighs and legs. Most people do not look like the above and instead show off their rectangle shaped bodies and upside down parsnip legs. Myself included.
