Thank you so much for all your brilliant suggestions. I'm aware the last thread is running out, so I've added a new one, just in case we have any more suggestions from a bygone era, or we want to review any new purchases (I have loads on order at the moment!). Thanks to @kojolo for the thread title. Here's the link to the old one: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/3944582-To-realise-I-like-old-lady-things

Yes very much like Past times !

alwaysreadyforablether · 08/07/2020 20:08

I've worn a floaty nightie to bed for the last two nights. So much comfier and cooler than the jersey pyjamas I had been wearing. It could all be in my head but I've slept right through both nights when I'm usually awake for a good hour or so around 2am.

@mightymalties I loved Padt Times. Was gutted when it closed down

SmileAndBreathe · 08/07/2020 22:58

Can I join? Always have been a rebellious old lady at heart, even as a child.

Mightymalties, I've just looked at that site and sighed...

PP mentioned Rosamund Pilcher. September is one of my secret favourite old lady books. whispers Love a bit of Maeve Binchy too.

When my grandmother was alive I used to love curling up in her comfy chair and reading stacks of Women's Weekly magazines. Sigh. Such a lovely (and secret) memory.

bluefoxmug · 09/07/2020 08:13

cardigans
CARDIGANS
I have about 15 to keep my back warm.

LadyPrigsbottom · 09/07/2020 09:01

I'm (online) shopping for good quality cardigans at the moment!

I have just bought 3 x Rosamunde Pilcher books on Kindle, having seen her recommended so much on this thread Grin.

September is on of the ones I've just downloaded!

Can't wait to get going on Rosamund Pilcher!

NannyOgg66 · 09/07/2020 10:02

Has anyone read Mary Wesley? I think her books may be a bit like Rosamund Pilcher, maybe a little more quirky. Many years ago in the early 90s ,one of her books The Chamomile lawn was a mini series on TV.
Pastimes.. I too was gutted when that went. Loads of lovely things.

I'm late to the party, so apologies if I've missed anything. May I clarify ...... at what age does one become and old lady? I can then determine whether to stay: or get me coat Grin

You don't have to be an old lady, just have an appreciation of "old lady" things Grin Don't get your coat, stay and have a nice cup of tea and a custard cream! Flowers

My Penhaligons perfume has arrived! I bought it to put away for my mum's birthday, but I am dying to have a sniff!

mathanxiety · 09/07/2020 22:15

Me too bluefoxmug. Some of them have huge pockets. All clothes should come with a pocket imo.

MadisonMontgomery · 10/07/2020 12:16

I need some new cardigans, can anyone suggest anywhere? I want really comfy ones to go with my comfy cross your heart bra and big knickers!

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 10/07/2020 22:41

Just ordered three of those Bronnley lemon soaps and some soap bags for the little bits (how frugal!) 🍋🍋🍋

Wauden · 11/07/2020 12:48

@JeSuisPoulet. And all of us merrily channelling our inner old ladies Smile Cotton kimonos can be worn as dressing gowns, in a romantic, floaty way. There is an exciting kimono shop in Bristol which has a huge selection and for men too!

EasilyDelighted · 11/07/2020 13:24

Another source of kimonos and traditional nightwear, bedding etc, I haven't bought anything from them myself but I pass their shop sometimes and like looking in.

MotherofPearl · 11/07/2020 14:37

@MadisonMontgomery

Brora have a beautiful range of soft cashmere cardigans, though they are expensive. I'm wearing a red cashmere cardigan today that I got on sale from Boden last year. Also very soft. I rate all the knitwear from Toast too, but again I tend to wait for things to be on sale.

NannyOgg66 · 11/07/2020 16:37

@Wauden are kimonos old lady ish ? I'm sitting here now in my cotton kimono having a cup of tea Grin I got mine from The Japanese Shop online and another same make brand new on Ebay, guessing it was an unwanted gift. I hate polyester dressing gowns. They do look good with the cotton nighties. I don't recommend trying to wash up in them though due to the sleeves!

mogloveseggs · 11/07/2020 17:49

@EasilyDelighted ooh there's some lovely ones on there!

KatherineParr4 · 11/07/2020 20:59

I’ve been looking for a silk kimono for about 39 years!! Love that site..
