Invited to a 50th birthday. Opinions on this top please

We're invited to dhs friends 50th birthday party. Dh said it's for his family and a few close friends. I will know a few people there, but more a acquaintances then friends.
I've no idea what to wear. I'm assuming dressy casual. I don't go out much, so I'm out of touch at the best of times.
Is this top ok if I accessories it with nice jewelry, black jeans and heels?
I'm a 16-18 and 42 if that helps. Other suggestions very welcome

It's lovely but you'd get a very similar one from H&M for about £20!

I like it. I’d wear slightly edgy jewellery like a chunky cuff perhaps.

Jeans and heels is a bit old fashioned imho.

Crap!! Are jeans and heels dated? That's why I've posted. I'm so out of touch. What's the alternative? I'm not keen on my ankles so i thought my skinnys were a safe bet

I wouldn’t by from H&M at your size. And I only say that because I’m your size! They’re crap at larger sizes in my opinion and I do think that if you’re a bit larger and not 20 then an expensive well cut top is worth it.

I'd say skinny jeans and heels are a bit dated but slim or straight jeans (cropped at the ankle) with block heels could work

Mint velvet are often really well cut for curves (I’m a 16) so would invest in the top. Black skinnies, a chunky heel sandal or ankle boot and bold jewellery would be lovely.

If you have a John Lewis near you they have massive reductions in store on women’s clothes.
They also stock Mint Velvet.

Skinny jeans and heels aren't outdated / old fashioned???? I say this as a 25 year old with reasonable fashion sense.

Lovely top. Skinny jeans and heels would look great with it. I think the idea that skinnies are old fashioned is absorbing the wishful thinking of jeans retailers.

I actually got some lovely chunky heels ankle boots from mint velvet too.
I think they are basically aiming at 30-50 stylish women with a bit more cash who aren’t a size 8. Which is basically you! And I like their style. Because it’s basically me too!! 🤣

And I wear skinny jeans most days 👍

The top is lovely but I’d go for a brighter colour as it’s a celebration, not a funeral. Maybe a wine red or forest green?
Sorry but I too think that skinny jeans and heels are outdated and not only that but were a fashion trend for twenty-somethings, not forty-something’s.
I’d go wide leg linen trousers in khaki if red top or navy if green top and strappy sandal in flat or chunky heel. You don’t want any sharp heels because part of the party is sure to be outdoors in the garden this time of year and you will sink into the grass with a sharp heel.

I tried on that Mint Velvet top in another colour back before lock down. It's a really nice top. It hung nicely and looked luxurious. I think your outfit sounds good.

It’s really nice and will look a lot better than anything from H&M, especially if you are not young and a 12 or less. Mint Velvet is cut for slightly older figures and works well in my experience.

I think that's a lovely top and it would look great with whatever style black jeans you are comfortable wearing. I think that whether or not skinny jeans are outdated or not depends on whether you have particularly fashion forward friends and where you live.

I feel good in that style of MV top & am 16-18.
I would swerve the wide leg linen trouser suggestion tbh.

Can someone link to the sort of chunky sandals they mean as a better alternative to heels?
