@Laska2Meryls that was me asking about Liz Earle. Sounds like a brilliant company - quite rare, and to keep sending out the monthly boxes during tough times days a lot. I always use Eyebright, v good for calming hay fever eyes.

Have bought my third (!) John Lewis cashmere piece from the sale - this beauty www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-edge-to-edge-cashmere-cardigan/khaki/p4859098 £30! The last Toast sale item I’d like was this www.toa.st/uk/product/womens+jersey/c6nbf/stripe+soft+cotton+cropped+sleeve+tee.htm Currently OOS tho. I took a gamble that it may be reduced further but apparently that gamble did not pay off. Oh well 🙄

For all you fellow Toast aficionados, if you are on Instagram, the account of The Modern House is today featuring the house belonging to the founders of Toast. Really interesting insight!

Moominmammaatsea · 09/07/2020 10:15

@paintedwolf, congratulations, you have bought yourself a new old faithful in the Ivar! It is beauteous and sumptuously soft. I am a Toast size 10 but I’m wider at my shoulders than my hips so I sometimes size up and always opt for a medium in tees and knots.

I bought the Ivar in a 10 but it is a neat fitting jacket so, if you’re planning to layer it over sweaters in the autumn, then it’s conceivable that it will be fine for you. Fingers crossed!

Great JL cashmere bargain Saurus
Just flagging this £23 JL utility jacket up Wink

BubblegumFactory · 09/07/2020 11:06

Was tempted to buy stuff yesterday from Toast but hesitated as I’m not normally a big spender and the skirt went out of stock.
So have just looked on JL and found myself these to try at better prices and free returns (always like free returns!)
www.johnlewis.com/toast-cotton-twill-workwear-skirt-dull-gold/p4883344?size=14
And this
www.johnlewis.com/toast-cotton-linen-slub-long-sleeve-jumper-olive/p4894381?size=l

What do Toast experts think?
Now out of stock so I got in there just in time!

Saurus72 · 09/07/2020 11:16

@BubblegumFactory Ha, I put that very skirt in my JL basket this morning then changed my mind! The value is astounding - I would wear it with a navy/black plain jumper. Perfect for Autumn/Winter wfh I would think if that’s your life.

Moominmammaatsea · 09/07/2020 11:51

Bubblegumfactory, I have that Maud skirt, to give it its full nomenclature, and I think the name very definitely fits as it’s a garment fit for a Land Girl who could very ably strip out a tractor in about 30 minutes flat! In my world, that’s a very good thing. I wear mine with a wide JL Kin Breton, or the juniper half sleeve Toast jumper, also bought at 70 per cent discount.

It looks lovely (in my opinion only) with my navy Saltwater sandals and my Veja trainers, plus I’m counting on wearing it with my Falke charcoal merino tights and brogues in the autumn.

I came on to say...

Toast fans! You bought the linen trousers, now you can buy the house!

(Editorial feature here, interesting read)

...but @Gonegrey31 beat me to it! Wink

ilovecherries · 09/07/2020 11:58

I got a medium, and I’m on the cusp of needing smaller, but I know a small would be too tight. Ideally a true 12 rather than a medium would be best. I think a small would be big enough for now. They are very soft linen, just lovely. Will try them again later for you. I’m still undecided, seems a ridiculous amount for summer trousers, but they are way, way better than the ones I tried in next, M&S etc. And the colour is very versatile, rather than the usual black.

ilovecherries · 09/07/2020 11:59

Sorry, above was for laska.

paintedwolf · 09/07/2020 12:54

@Moominmammaatsea Thanks so much for your answer. I am usually a 10 but I don't like feeling constricted across the shoulders in jackets so it sounds like I made the right choice getting the 12, although the decision was really made for me as there were no 10s left!

ilovecherries · 09/07/2020 13:16

I have that jumper, bubblegum, it’s gorgeous. Looks great with navy and grey.

BubblegumFactory · 09/07/2020 14:26

I just hope they fit / suit - never bought Toast before so fingers crossed...

Alsohuman · 09/07/2020 14:31

cherries, it feels like a lot now but they’ll go on for years. I replace M&S linen trousers every year. It’s a mug’s game that I’m not going to play any more.

Yes, it’s usually the M&S ones I have. Last years no longer fit and the quality seems to have been going steadily downhill in them. Plus I’m sure they used to be 100% linen and now they are a linen blend. These are def in a different league.
Laska2Meryls · 09/07/2020 17:54

I successfully bid for a pair of the lighter blue Japanese trousers on ebay this afternoon . When they arrive I am planning on dyeing them black !
Decent price ( of course more than I had hoped , but less than I paid last year in the sale and much less than the current linen offering ).. So v pleased .. Smile

I am seriously tempted by this house! It seems dead cheap after living in London.
AmethystMoonShine · 09/07/2020 20:09

@BubblegumFactory I have both! The skirt goes with loads and I think will pay for itself in autumn and winter With thick tights and black cashmere sweater with boots.
The olive jumper is gorgeous and will work with my Toast dark denim skirt, my Toast black denim culottes plus jeans and probably my black chino shorts in summer on chilly evenings.
I hope you love both they are fabulous prices.

goldpendant · 09/07/2020 20:19

That house is glorious..... not sure I'd fancy it in winter though!

anon444877 · 09/07/2020 20:44

OMG, I want the house! Let’s hope my numbers come up. Gorgeous.

Rosebath · 09/07/2020 20:57

Not only a toast newbie, but a Mumsnet newbie here - my first post Smile I stumbled across this thread and those huge discounts inspired me to try out a few dresses. I’ve wafted into a couple of the toast shops before but the prices wafted me back out again.

I have some questions and I’m hoping someone might be able to give me some ideas...

I’ve got 3 dresses, and have basically fallen in love with all of them, even though they’re quite a different shape to what I’d usually wear - especially all the fabric in the skirts. But something weird happens when I put them on - I just feel like myself, in a comfortable, confident kind of way. It’s nice!

But what I’m wondering is - do you see these toast dresses as just for the summer? I’m trying to think of how to wear them in winter/cooler days, otherwise even at 70% off I definitely can’t justify keeping all three. I think they’d all work with thick tights and shoes/boots, but what about layers? None of my cardigans seem to work over the sleeves. I’m a size 8/10 and most of my clothes are a bit more fitted than this. Any ideas gratefully received!

It’s the Kala dress, the dark Chalkboard dress and the cotton voile asymmetric midi dress in navy.

Alsohuman · 09/07/2020 21:06

Oh that house. Even the loo’s a thing of beauty.

Laska2Meryls · 09/07/2020 21:27

It would be great if they left all the furnishings and nicknacks ! if i bought it , it just wouldnt look the same ....

Laska2Meryls · 09/07/2020 21:29

Hi Rosebath (great name!). Sadly I dont have any of those dresses , but I am sure someone will.
Can you layer under with any of them ?

faustina · 09/07/2020 21:30

@Laska2Meryls - buy the Ivar jacket! I have barely taken mine off since I picked it up - honestly it's lovely!

I also found all the returns this morning and bought the dark red linen t-shirt (amongst other things) and I have a question someone here might be able to help me with. I was going to buy the dark grey one full price at Toast but suddenly thought I might get the dark red one and dye it. Can anyone suggest which would be the best dye to get? I don't usually do things like this so know nothing!
