How much has your hair grown in lockdown?

Just a bored musing really. I had my hair cut 2 weeks before lockdown started and I cannot believe how much it has grown! I’m considering growing it back, it used to be very long.

My eyebrows are well on the way to being something they resembled before the 90’s too 🤣😂

How is everybody else fairing?

@Horsemad - good idea, I wish I had done that Smile

woodhill · 13/06/2020 16:33

It says not to use it on grey? Do you think it will ok - anyone?

MulberryPeony · 13/06/2020 16:53

Oh I don’t know @woodhill I probably do have grey hairs but can’t see them.

JaceLancs · 13/06/2020 16:58

Mine has grown about 3 inches - I have a mid length wavy curly style with lots of layers if I faff with it and use curling cream it’s fine at first then I start to look like a King Charles spaniel
Roots not too bad as used a Clairol root touch up kit n then combed through to blend in - which should keep me going till mid July when hopefully my hairdresser will be able to rescue me

Horsemad · 13/06/2020 17:12

Let me know how it goes @woodhill!

woodhill · 13/06/2020 17:19

Will do horse, I may mix 2 colours together as I bought a cool one too.

My bathroom is new too

Horsemad · 13/06/2020 17:26

Lots of old towels down then woodhill!

woodhill · 14/06/2020 18:35

It wasn't too bad. I mixed the 2 shades and applied to dry hair. It has blended the grey slightly so not such a contrast line. It didn't go far as my hair was dry. I then conditioned afterwards. It is still drying naturally.

Did look khaki before being rinsed.

Horsemad · 14/06/2020 22:13

Are you able to put up a pic woodhill? Would you recommend it?

woodhill · 14/06/2020 22:31

I'll sleep on it😊

Yes, for the price and it will wash out so I can carry on growing out the colour

StillMedusa · 14/06/2020 23:16

Mine always seems to grow faster in spring (I guess it has its resting phase in autumn) . Last cut in January and Ijust had a trim as wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it... was due a cut in April.

I'e now got a fringe past my nose and dreadful long layers that have grown at different rates and my hair is nearly down to my bra strap... which at 52 and greying (I gave up colour 4 years ago) is NOT a good look.1
Can't wait to get it cut... OFF

Horsemad · 14/06/2020 23:22

I watched a video on how to cut your own hair yesterday. Was very tempted but went in the garden and hacked at some shrubs instead! 😆

OhTheRoses · 14/06/2020 23:37

About two inches judging from the root growth. Am much more evenly grey than I imagined. Will probably let it grow out as I have come this far. Have had an illegal cut and blow dry since lock down Blush

MrsAvocet · 15/06/2020 00:09

I only get my hair cut 2 or 3 times a year normally, so the last time was just before Christmas. Its probably grown about 6 or 7 inches since then and I really would like it cutting now as the weather is so warm.

woodhill · 15/06/2020 10:07

@horse

Not much difference but 1st pic was
before colour hair was tied up. 2nd after colour hair more toned and not such a contrast between roots and dyed hair?

I've trimmed my fringe (I wear it pushed back anyway) and used thinning scissors to reduce the weight across the top but the rest hasn't been cut since the end of February half term. I can wear it in a pony tail now, it was cut to just below my chin in February and is now about shoulder-length. I have to be careful about how short I have it because I have an extremely unfortunate tendency to look like Myra Hindley when it gets to a certain length.

The highlights are growing out and the greys are growing in, but I should be able to wait another few weeks. I seem to be split-end free as I don't use straighteners or hair dryers on it.

Ha ha I said to my husband the other week that if he could cut a hedge he could cut my hair Grin

Apolloanddaphne · 15/06/2020 11:21

I last had mine cut mid March in a chin length bob with a slightly side swept fringe. The back still looks great but yesterday my DH told me I was starting to look like Phil Oakey as my fringe was so long. That galvanised me into action and I have cut my fringe into a blunter one than I usually have. I rather like it!

Horsemad · 15/06/2020 12:04

@woodhill, yep, as you say the line looks softer. Not sure if it would do much on my hair, my greys (whites 🙄) are really, really stubborn when I have my hair done at the salon. Frustrating.

I should probably grow the colour out but I look SO washed out even with just the roots, never mind a whole head of white... 🤨 Not sure I could stand it, tbh! 😆

woodhill · 15/06/2020 13:30

@horsemad

Honestly mine are too😊

I may apply it again. My head was slightly itchy in the night

I have the professional semi permanent dye ready but then it will take ages to grow out again and such an upkeep.

I'm going to trim my fringe as a next step this week

Horsemad · 15/06/2020 17:58

Did my fringe (tentatively!) a few weeks ago. 😆

I've been using L'Oréal Magic Retouch, I think it's called. It covers well but makes my hair feel a bit sticky and the medium to dark blonde is slightly gingery I find.

Needaripeavocado · 15/06/2020 18:07

i cut my hair short and its grown abit.. looks abit like tina turners hair at the moment its gone abit wild and fluffy, gel dont work or straightners so just doing its own thing Grin

madcatladyforever · 15/06/2020 18:15

I just went to measure my roots, I normally have my hair dyed at the hairdresser and they are 2.5 inches. I don't think that is much regrowth in 3 months really.
Maybe hair growth slows down in your 50's.

madcatladyforever · 15/06/2020 18:17

But..... my natural hair although a boring mouse colour is just so soft, shiny and lovely compared to the rest of it. i'm wondering if I should just grow it all out and just use gold henna on it instead. Mind you it's three feet long so it might take a while.

BinkyBoinky · 15/06/2020 18:27

Not much, I cut about 3 inches off at the beginning of lockdown (to collarbone length) and it's only grown back an inch so far. Perhaps being indoors so much has slowed its growth somewhat. It's starting to hit that awkward "mushroom" stage so it must be growing! I'm dying for it to be long again arrghh...!
