How much has your hair grown in lockdown?

Just a bored musing really. I had my hair cut 2 weeks before lockdown started and I cannot believe how much it has grown! I’m considering growing it back, it used to be very long.

My eyebrows are well on the way to being something they resembled before the 90’s too 🤣😂

How is everybody else fairing?

I have ‘big’ hair anyway, grows outwards with a hidden curl... but it’s been 15 weeks since it was cut... likenesses have included;
Cher
Bet Lynch
Lily Savage
Phil Spector
Anyone from the ‘poodle rock’ era
( Europe, David Coverdale, Brian May etc)
Hasn’t been this size since a badly- judged perm in 1981 when there was a real danger of getting jammed in doorways...
It has also grown so much in length, that it’s starting to strangle me during my sleep😳
Hairdresser says it will be July at earliest before I am saved!!

bookwormlady · 12/06/2020 07:12

@Kaathesnake sounds like you have very cool rock and roll lock down hair

MaudesMum · 12/06/2020 08:03

I had a shortish layered bob. I now have shoulder length hair, and all the layers are growing out. I've cut my fringe once (badly) and am nearly ready to do it again. I bloody hate it and if I could find an underground hairdresser (how?) I'd take the risk...

Passthecake30 · 12/06/2020 08:10

Mine has grown about 2” and is in between my shoulders and bra line. I’ve had to do my hair line and parting with root touch up, it grows white around the hairline and 50/50 grey at the parting (not so much every where else?). As I probably won’t be going back to the office until Jan I’m thinking of having about 4” off and trying to darken it down as it’s too light but also let some grey grow through if that makes any sense? I am considering of just having lowlights out through but they always fade out. Any suggestions?? My natural hair colour was mousey blonde/brown.

Mine was a lot longer, probaly bra strap but noticed I was missing a bit at the back, so chopped it almost all off

JellyfishandShells · 12/06/2020 10:33

I was comparing hair with a group of friends - those of us with it now long enough and tamable enough to go into a ponytail or up seemed to have it easiest, those with straight, thick , coarser hair usually styled quite short having the most difficulty

Kaathesnake · 12/06/2020 11:32

@bookwormlady

Yes, that’s it! I (usually) work in a restaurant and the ‘rocker’ type customers tend to start chats about hair😁 One particularly ‘hairy biker’ couple yelled ‘respect to the hair’ as they left which startled some of our more sedate customers!
The hair went mad when I had it cut from very long and straight in 1977, to a ‘Farrah Fawcett Majors’ style - it’s barely changed and the dormant ‘hugeness’ appeared and can’t be calmed🤷‍♀️ Oh well...

Alicatz66 · 12/06/2020 13:12

@ladyface .. I'm going to do that too ... my hair is ruined from bleach .. I want to get it back to health

Bioprepper · 12/06/2020 15:50

Mine was exactly the same length and has grown about the same as the OPs. I had mine cut and highlighted a few days before lockdown. Im loving the length because i am used to it long but my roots need serious help lol.

bookwormlady · 12/06/2020 20:39

@kaathesnake I remember the Farah Fawcett style. It was very glamorous and would probably be in today. I opted for a Perdy style (The Avengers), regretted it and grew it out very long Smile

Chochito · 12/06/2020 21:50

In reverse for me. Also feeling the need to cut.

I'm not sure, but it seems to grow at about half the rate of my chin hairs...

Kaathesnake · 13/06/2020 00:58

@bookwormlady
Ah, a fair few of us had the ‘Farrah’ flicks in the late 70s - I was always jealous of the smooth neat-haired Purdeys!🙂
My hair decided that it had found its style, and that was the way it would stay... and no amount of straightening it with viciously hot 🔥 tools could change it! So for about the last 43 years, I’m still ‘Farrah’
To be honest, it takes very little upkeep because of the natural urge it has to stick out, and the blonde/ash (err... grey) colour suits it. If I hang around long enough, it comes back into fashion😁

Fox43 · 13/06/2020 03:01

Mine touching my bum!
Normally have it around my lower back but this is too long now!

managedmis · 13/06/2020 03:05

Meh, about an inch? I have thin hair so you can't really tell

woodhill · 13/06/2020 09:04

I've caved and ordered some wash in product just to colour it slightly. Got fed up,with the grey now

Horsemad · 13/06/2020 10:16

What did you order @woodhill? 🙂

woodhill · 13/06/2020 11:15

Some wash in shade from Superdrug recommended on here

woodhill · 13/06/2020 11:16

I read reviews. It may not do anything?.

MulberryPeony · 13/06/2020 11:53

I’ve used those Superdrug effects. Don’t be afraid to use on dry hair and/or leave on for a longer time. You often see more of an effect if you do a couple of treatments over a week or so I find. They do make my hair static though so I have to use conditioner afterwards.

Horsemad · 13/06/2020 12:18

Ah thanks @woodhill, I'll have a look.

woodhill · 13/06/2020 12:26

So wash your hair no conditioner, dry then use?

woodhill · 13/06/2020 12:27

😊 horse

bookwormlady · 13/06/2020 12:38

I caved and have used the Marion colour shampoo which I bought from Amazon. I had to leave it on for an hour for it to cover all my grey roots.

Unfortunately, it goes everywhere and has stained my bathroom walls. Next time I'm going to sit in the bath while it develops.

Horsemad · 13/06/2020 12:47

Eeek, I've had a new bathroom a couple of months ago, so can't risk anything staining any part of it! 😲

I'll have to do it outside! 😆😆😆
