Are there any redeeming features to this dress?

Sometimes I see things that are so weird I really start to wonder if it’s them or me. Am I missing something here? John Lewis is trying to pass this off as “effortless summer style” for a mere £179.

I'm in minority here but if it had short sleeves it would be right up my street

PickleKing · 06/06/2020 18:36

Shocking!

ShowOfHands · 06/06/2020 18:38

I'd wear that.
But I'm wearing dungarees with foxes on so I am best ignored.

LivingThatLockdownLife · 06/06/2020 18:47

Effortless indeed!

I appreciate that I'm in the minority but I like it in the navy!

Ellapaella · 06/06/2020 18:55

It's a little bit Cruella De Vil, makes me think of dalmations.

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/06/2020 19:06

Only £179 eh? Bargain.

MrsBobDylan · 06/06/2020 19:30

When an outfit makes a size 8 model look dumpy, it is best avoided by those of us who are already that way.

Saturdayrabbit42 · 06/06/2020 21:08

Woof!

Supersimkin2 · 06/06/2020 21:18

Oh I love it! Trainers and a tan bag, we're off on a lovely day out.

DukeOfEarlGrey · 06/06/2020 21:44

Crikey! That’s genuinely awful.

@ShowOfHands please show us the dungarees with foxes on - they sound way better!

TooTiredTodayOk · 06/06/2020 21:52

I've got to be honest, the more I look at it, it's growing on me. A bit of alteration (being 5ft 2 and size 6/8 I end up getting most of my clothes altered) and a Gucci belt and some trainers and I reckon it'd look nice.

But then again, I've got that "horrible Zara dress" so what do I know.

The main part of the dress is actually ok, but then they added in the extra god-awful bit and ruined it. Less is more is a mantra to live by Grin

goose1964 · 06/06/2020 23:08

I love the fox dungarees they'd be so cute on my younger grandchildren, ages 1 and 3

borntohula · 06/06/2020 23:10

Some women could probably pull it off but not me.

No, No, No. Not even at £17.90.

Tartyflette · 07/06/2020 00:31

I got that email from John Lewis and marvelled at the sheer ugliness of that dress. And the shoes.
In fact I'm going to forward it to a friend so she can enjoy it too.

PickAChew · 07/06/2020 00:46

It's like they ran out of fabric so inserted half a skirt from a completely different dress.

DippyAvocado · 07/06/2020 00:46

I did immediately think Cruella too. I think it might not be so bad if it was just the smaller pattern all over but the larger spots just look wrong.

It does remind me of that Zara dress too. I saw an attractive, tall, willowy lady wearing it at the theatre and it still looked like a spotty tent.

dialmformmmm · 07/06/2020 00:57

I thought this looked equally bad. Shapeless. Poor model looks pissed off to be wearing it.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 07/06/2020 05:10

My god Confused I really don't like these shapeless things that are called dresses. I don't think they flatter anyone at all, and juat look like the person wearing it is trying to hide themselves away. Vile. The germolene pink one is the most hideous dress I've ever seen!

1forAll74 · 07/06/2020 05:28

It looks like a Sewing Bee garment, where they were asked to make a weird dressing gown, but someone ran out of the whole material, and used another piece of something else.

WinterAndRoughWeather · 07/06/2020 05:41

There are so many shapeless, sack-like fashions around these days, I don’t get it. As pp have said, they even look terrible on the models.

When I browse a clothing web store I find many of the looks completely inexplicable, and kind of messy and mish-mash. How would you even describe the current fashions? There doesn’t seem to be any consistency. Except “unflattering” I suppose.

I suspect this phenomenon may also be known as “getting old”.
