What clothes size would you expect this person to wear?

Inspired by my mini Sainsbury’s TU clothing rant (size too big)- what UK clothes size (May differ ‘vanity sizing’ shops and ‘teenage’ shop) would you expect this person to wear?

5ft5 8 stone 5lbs

I know it’s a ‘guessing game’ doesn’t account for where weight stored etc. But I’d be interested in getting a general idea of what people thought

I was interested in reading the answers as I am a similar size and pretty much mirror @Fleurchamp. 5'6 and approx 8 st 10 lbs. At around 8 st 7lbs I am a comfortable size 8. Above that somewhere hovering between 8 and 10. I call myself a size 9!
Except in swim suits. I have a very long body (and shorter legs) so a swim suit in a 12 is tight.
I also stuggle with top lengths. They could be billowing on top but end mid navel so I tend to buy a size 10 in tops. Lower half is always an 8.

imsooverthisdrama · 03/06/2020 13:50

I honestly wouldn't guess it depends on your measurements. I'm a 12 top but I can sometimes have to get size 16-18 pants I have big hips .

Alsohuman · 03/06/2020 13:58

Clothes have definitely grown bigger. You couldn't even get size 6s when I was young!

The smallest size you could get when I was young was a 10 and they were like dolls clothes. Vanity sizing has gone completely mad over the last few years. I’m currently a 14 (thanks to lockdown), it would have been an 18 when I was young.

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/06/2020 14:56

8 but only because I have those measurements and I’m an 8. Before lockdown I was a bit lighter.

DelphiniumBlue · 03/06/2020 15:55

Interesting. I once weighed 8 stone at 5'4", and that was a size 12, in old money.

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/06/2020 16:15

I used to be a 10 at 5’5” 7.5stone. Now I’m an 6-8 apart from Sainsburys leggings where I’m a 12.

Londonborncatty · 03/06/2020 16:21

Size 10. You’re on the tall side so although you look very slim, I think you will take a larger size than expected. If we pro-rata weight according to height, you would probably be a size 6-8.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 03/06/2020 16:52

8

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 03/06/2020 16:58

I'm 5'5" and 8.5 stone and a Size 8. Couldnt fit into a Size 6.

Depends whether we are talking Topshop or Marks and Spencer and what item it is, surely?

TheMarzipanDildo · 03/06/2020 16:59

Size 6, adjusting for modern sizing? I reckon you’re really slim

I’m 8 stone 2, 5’2 and a 8/10

Onekidnoclue · 03/06/2020 17:02

6/8 I’d guess depending on where the weight is an the brand.
Fuck only knows what gap size you’d be and you’d likely be a 2 in Hush.

Lostinbooksandcoffee · 03/06/2020 17:26

Size 8-10.
I'm 5"5 and have varied between 8.2 and 8.10 for the last few months but am consistently 8-10.

AlphaDalpha · 03/06/2020 17:34

10-12.

I'm taller and about that weight and I'm an 8-10

MaryLennoxsScowl · 03/06/2020 21:06

6-8. I’ve been size 8-10 since I was late teens, but I’m a stone and a half heavier than I was at 18. Still in 8-10 in modern clothes though, which just tells you how much vanity sizing is going on! And that’s in Topshop, too.

Gigia · 03/06/2020 21:13

Size 6? I am 5ft 5, just under 9 stone and a size 8, I do have a flat stomach and a lot of muscle though.

pastaparadise · 03/06/2020 21:18

8 but 6-10 depending on shop and top/ bottom.
I'm 5' 2" and 8 stone 3lbs and can be anywhere between 6-10.

Oly4 · 04/06/2020 21:51

6

GeorgiaWeLoveYou · 04/06/2020 22:44

I would guess a size 10.

Ipadipod · 04/06/2020 22:47

I’m 5ft 8 weigh 10 stone and wear a 10 , sometimes an 8 , so I reckon with your measurements you’d be a size 4!

Fatted · 04/06/2020 22:52

What does it matter? Just buy the size that fits you, whether it's a 4 or a 12. If clothes don't fit you in a particular shop, take your money elsewhere and find people who do make clothes that fit you.

InterestingIris · 04/06/2020 22:55

Probably an 8.

Tlollj · 04/06/2020 22:57

I remember weighing 8 stone 8 pounds. I’m five foot six. I was a twelve. Never been an eight not sure shops even stocked sixes.
This was probably 30/35 years ago.

MarthasGinYard · 04/06/2020 22:57

8 or 10

Minimoosher · 04/06/2020 23:06

I weigh 8st 5lb and am 5 foot 6 and I wear a size 10 in trousers. I'm pear shaped so much smaller on top. My bra size is 28 in the back.

oohnicevase · 06/06/2020 09:42

6-8.. my daughter is about the same size
