What clothes size would you expect this person to wear?

Inspired by my mini Sainsbury’s TU clothing rant (size too big)- what UK clothes size (May differ ‘vanity sizing’ shops and ‘teenage’ shop) would you expect this person to wear?

5ft5 8 stone 5lbs

I know it’s a ‘guessing game’ doesn’t account for where weight stored etc. But I’d be interested in getting a general idea of what people thought

I was a 10 at that height and weight. Could probably squeeze into occasional 8’s too

TableNiner · 03/06/2020 09:13

I’m about that, ever so slightly lighter and shorter and normally wear a 10. I’m top heavy but same applies to my bottom half. Would never wear a 6 and normally only wear an 8 in cardigans where I don’t need to do it up.

FranklinMR · 03/06/2020 09:14

6 or 8.

MoltoAgitato · 03/06/2020 09:17

I’m 5ft4 and 9 stone and 8-10, so I’d expect this to be 6 to 8. Interestingly, when using dressmaking patterns which haven’t engaged in vanity sizing, I’m a 14...

Zeitgei5t · 03/06/2020 09:19

Surely this depends on bone structure and which shop. I'm 5ft6 and 8 stone 7 and generally fit a 10, sometimes an 8. My skeleton wouldn't physically fit into a 6!

Rua13 · 03/06/2020 09:33

A size 6-8.

mermaidbutmytailfelloff · 03/06/2020 09:38

I was 9.5 stones and 5 foot 7 and was easily a comfortable size 8. I carry my weight very proportionally.

Note the was. Sadly now heavier and older but still proportionally fatter everywhere.

EwwSprouts · 03/06/2020 09:40

I'm 5"4 and weighed between 8 stone & 8.5 stone throughout my 20's which was routinely size 10 with a rare 12 for the hips.

8elate8 · 03/06/2020 09:42

Size 6-8, no way a size 10. 5"5 is not tall and 8 stone 5 is absolutely tiny, I think I size 20 would be way too big

8elate8 · 03/06/2020 09:42

Obviously size 10 too big not size 20!Grin

EltonMess · 03/06/2020 09:47

Size 6-8. I'm 5ft 4 and 8st 7, size UK 6-8

IdblowJonSnow · 03/06/2020 09:50

6 - 8

Chillipeanuts · 03/06/2020 09:51

10

Whatsnewpussyhat · 03/06/2020 09:55

When I weighed less than 9 stone I was an 8-10. Pear shape.

In H+M though, anything from a size zero to 16!

Hannah9176 · 03/06/2020 09:55

I got down to 8st 10 and I'm 5ft4.5 and I was a size 4-6. Currently 11st and a size 10-12 so maybe I just have a weird body shape.

TheFairyCaravan · 03/06/2020 09:57

I'm 5ft 4 and 8st 4. I can be a 6 or an 8 depending on where I shop

transformandriseup · 03/06/2020 10:20

I would say 8-10 depending on the body shape

Milkywaysdays · 03/06/2020 10:36

@8elate8 I do have a few size 20s- like big nighties 🙈

Wow I am 5ft 6 and my best best weight is 9st 12, when I weigh that I can get into size 10 anywhere and in M&S size 8...so I am going to say this slender person would be a 6/8 max.

PhoneLock · 03/06/2020 10:45

I'm an inch taller but a similar weight and a very easy size 6. I have smaller sized clothes that fit. A current size 10 would drown me.

emilybrontescorsett · 03/06/2020 12:35

Is say a size 8 would fit with maybe room to spare.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 03/06/2020 12:46

In today's money an 8.

When I was in my late teens-mid 20s I was 7st11 and I'm 5'8. I was an 8-10 then (I'm broad shouldered), now at 47 and 10st 6 I'm a 10-12, there's no way on earth I'd be getting into my old size 10s.

Clothes have definitely grown bigger. You couldn't even get size 6s when I was young!

ChaoticCatling · 03/06/2020 13:01

Size 8.
I'm 5 ft 5 and 7st 10 and I wear a 6 bottom, 8 top.

cozycat1 · 03/06/2020 13:13

prob most frequently a sz 10, maybe an 8. unlikely size 6.

FYI I am 5ft 2, 8st and take an 8 on top, 8-10 on bottom. possibly an xs if no actual sizes. Frequently find TU sz 8 too big, but note they do a petite size which fits better.

MoltonSilver · 03/06/2020 13:14

At that weight (I'm heavier now) and height, I wore mostly size 10.
