Sadly QueenoftheAndals has decided to bow out and not create any more Royal Style and Beauty threads SadSadSad
I'm really hoping she'll reconsider.
Are any of the regular posters interested in continuing her great work ?

Oh swoon! I love AC's chic style. That black dress in the first picture is perfect, all the more so because she's not wearing black shoes.

latedecember1963 · 01/07/2020 13:43

I like the names Anastasia and Frederick.
Amal Clooney is so stylish. It's true that the men escape a lot of the clothing scrutiny.
I think it was Michelle Obama who commented that her clothes were endlessly scutinised while her husband wore the same tuxedo suit for evening events for years!

SenecaFallsRedux · 01/07/2020 15:23

Fans of The Crown want more Princess Anne. Evidently her depiction in the series has increased her popularity.

Amal Clooney looks very elegant, love all those outfits.

thisenglishlife · 01/07/2020 15:55

@LaureBerthaud I agree that Amal wears some great things and also some very odd, kooky items!

KP have released part of a Zoom call (recorded last week) to celebrate Canada day. Kate seems to be have worn an Alexander McQueen tweed shift mini dress.

Looked up some photos of Kate in Canada... look at the size of those arm muscles (and compare to now)!

Queen Kate'll soon build up those arm muscles again when she's lifting a different tiara up onto her head every day! Grin Wink

My royal names would be Eleanor, Grace, Alexandra, Elizabeth, Mary, May, Anastasia and Alice.

Boys, William, Christian, Alexander, Arthur, Owen and Jasper.

MotherofPearl · 01/07/2020 19:26

Those tiaras are amazing - thanks for posting Tracy.

This Swedish one is just staggering. For British RF tiaras you can't beat the Greville or the Delhi Durbar. So diamond-y.

MotherofPearl · 01/07/2020 19:28

Seneca, that's interesting about PA. I do think she comes out of The Crown pretty well - no-nonsense, unpretentious and hard-working.

AdaColeman · 01/07/2020 19:47

My Royal names would be Matilda, Margaret, Eleanor and Katherine. I’ve always had a soft spot for Berengaria too, it must have been hard work to have Eleanor of Aquitaine as your MIL!

latedecember1963 · 01/07/2020 19:50

Thank you for the tiaras, Tracybeaker.
My 3 favourites are No 3 for it's mediaeval look, No 14 because the pearls are pretty and No 23 for the unusual concentric circle design.

SenecaFallsRedux · 01/07/2020 20:00

My favorite royal names for women are Elizabeth, Alexandra, Anne, Alice, and Sophia (one of George III's daughters was named Sophia).

For men: Charles, Edward, David, and Alexander.

latedecember1963 · 01/07/2020 20:01

Can you imagine the AIBUs if Eleanor of Acquitaine was your MiL? She is one of my historical heroines and I often think what an amazing person she was but I'm not sure I would have wanted her as my MiL!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 01/07/2020 20:58

I see Eleanor of Aquitaine managed to get her first marriage (to Louis VII of France) annulled despite having 2 daughters by him. Apparently the Pope allowed the annulment & Eleanor then married the future Henry II of England in 1152.

I can see why Henry VIII was really pissed off with the the pope in 1525 re trying to get his marriage to Catherine of Aragon annulled (poor Catherine was treated extremely shabbily)
Can you imagine Henry VIII's AIBU?
AIBU to be pissed off with the Church as they annulled my 9x Great Granny's marriage but they won't annul mine?

frugalkitty · 01/07/2020 21:49

My daughter is named after two Eleanor's...one was Eleanor of Aquitaine. She's about as bloody minded Grin but in a good way, she's small but mighty.

Gooseysgirl · 01/07/2020 22:05

Ooooo I love that McQueen tweed dress! Perfect for her! Hopefully we'll see her wear it again.

AdaColeman · 01/07/2020 22:09

Louis was keen to be rid of Eleanor, because of her infidelities and because she had had no sons after 15 years of marriage, whereas the
Pope would take no action on Henry’s annulment from Catherine of Aragon because Katherine’s nephew Emperor Charles V of Spain was besieging Rome with the Pope his virtual prisoner, so the cases were very different, and Henry VIII was BU.

SenecaFallsRedux · 02/07/2020 01:36

A bit of trivia, I'm pretty sure that Eleanor of Aquitaine was Catherine of Aragon's many times great-grandmother, through one of Eleanor's daughters with Louis.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 02/07/2020 02:13

Yes that's right Seneca, Catherine was a many x great granddaughter of Eleanor.
Catherine is a descendant of 4 of Eleanor's children.
As you rightly said through the daughter with Louis VII (Marie of Champagne)
Also through the 3 of her 8 children with Henry II (King John of England, Queen Eleanor of Castile & Matilda of Saxony)

I'm just off to look at kindle books about Eleanor of Aquitaine. From what I've discovered she does seem a rather fascinating character @latedecember1963

Horsemad · 02/07/2020 06:17

I like the tweed dress - bit short for my legs but if I had pins like Kate then yes, I'd wear it! 🙂

Loved looking through the tiara pics, no. 3 is my fave although I do like the Greville too.

Heygirlheyboy · 02/07/2020 09:02

Interested to know what shoes she'd wear with the tweed dress.. Lovely colour.

latedecember1963 · 02/07/2020 09:31

These are the books I have read about Eleanor of Acquitaine, TraceyBeaker.
The Alison Weir is more erudite but the Elizabeth Chadwick books are an entertaining read mixing fact with poetic licence, a bit like Phillipa Gregory.
