Just ordering myself a box from this outfit:

loststock.co/

No idea when it will arrive but I thought it looked good, ordered one for DH too (in "dark" and "plain", he's a boring sod).

Oh no, I ordered DS4 one after liking the idea but not really able to spend that money for myself. Sort of glad I didn’t now...

NotJustACigar · 13/08/2020 06:13

It bears repeating that this company is not a charity but a mukti-million pound business, and the founder has been less than honest in his behaviour claiming boxes are worth £70 when they contain around £20 of tops from Matalan and deleting the review section on the Facebook page because the reviews are so awful. I'm hoping a journalist will investigate and make sure the charity is getting what he claims they are because I don't trust him enough now to take his word for it. There is a lack of transparency and oversight here that is worrying.

BullshitVivienne · 13/08/2020 06:43

twitter.com/Thatbookishgem/status/1293093983867097088?s=19 interesting thread. Is everyone receiving items from Matalan?

TheoneandObi · 13/08/2020 07:29

Oh no! Reading this and feeling depressed. I'd thought Lost Stock was such a good and nice idea. My stuff has arrived and it's well... nice. Probs worth a little more than £35 but not a lot. Probs not £70.
I did under state my age -
Lost 5 years - because I was concerned I'd get grumpy clothes, so I dodged that bullet.

Hmmm, perhaps I wasn’t being such an old cynic up thread.....

It does seem a bit off that he also founded mallzee which basically makes fast fashion even more accessible for people, he also said this in 2019:

Like many entrepreneurs, Cally has a bigger picture in mind. “It is estimated that a trillion dollars a year is wasted, worldwide, on poor discounting – this is neither good for the finances of retailers, or for society. If we can reduce the wastage through clothes that do not sell, that will have a benefit effect on society.”

Seems he has had his eye on a similar business idea for a while, and may have even been looking into it pre covid, it just providing a good excuse, along with the donation to charity to get things rolling.

SockYarn · 13/08/2020 07:56

I think the response may be just to bung a bit more in the bags. Just saw someone on FB saying they had been given 4 tops and a dress - is this maybe response to people rightly complaining about value?

Clymene · 13/08/2020 08:44

It seems to be random @SockYarn. Everyone gets at least 3 items, some people get 4 and some have had 5. Anything that's turning up now would have been packed long before the negative publicity of the last few days.

There has been one bit of press: www.cityam.com/customers-question-value-of-clothes-bundles-in-edinburgh-fashion-firms-lost-stock-charity-venture/

SockYarn · 13/08/2020 08:50

Well I'm still waiting for mine - ordered 31st May. by the time it gets here Scottish summer will be well and truly over. I really hope I don't get cheap Matalan vests though @Clymene as I'll be gutted. I'm in the lucky position that I can write off the spend and I don't NEED the new clothes.

I wish though that I'd just taken the £78 I paid for two boxes and given it straight to the Red Cross or Oxfam.

BullshitVivienne · 13/08/2020 08:54

I like the idea of seeing someone else wearing the same Matalan vest and giving them an embarrassed nod, like we're in a shameful club together.

I thought it would be companies like Zara, Mango, H&M, Topshop.

Thinkle · 13/08/2020 09:19

I really wanted to love this but feeling flatter about it by the day. My box is about two to three weeks away. I really hope they are supporting the people in Bangladesh they claim to be supporting, that’s the only real reason I did this.
I know my clothes will be too big as I’m 10/12 and cautiously ordered an M. However my aim is to have fun and have a go at upcycling anything that doesn’t fit.
In terms of bargain clothes I’ve just bought a cotton shirt dress and swimsuit made from recycled fishing nets (really) from Arket for £40 because the half price sale is now BGOF. I suspect that will be significantly better value than my lost stock box.

Jenluc10 · 15/08/2020 11:56

I ordered my box hoping for something to push me out of my always wear the same Blue jeans and grey/black T-shirt.

I ordered brights and patterns and got the grey matalan vest (which I like but could of went the shop and got for £5!) a plain blue tshirt from oasis and a white too that I can’t find online yet. I like them all but the white too is too short and doesn’t fit properly.

Not a total waste of time but I am disappointed. Totally not worth £35 never mind the £70 it’s supposed to be worth. I was going to order my daughter one but think I’d rather give the money directly to the charity.

BullshitVivienne · 15/08/2020 15:25

I think it's really cheeky that they're putting a plain grey vest in the boxes.

underthebed · 15/08/2020 20:16

So glad I didn't bother with this. To be honest the idea of someone randomly choosing my clothes fills me with absolute horror anyway.
Looking at the breakdown, 37% of the £35 price goes to the charity.

DuchessSilver · 16/08/2020 08:05

Given how popular it has been, I wonder if struggling charity shops have considered selling bags of random clothes for £35!

Blep · 17/08/2020 10:31

I just got mine, 4 tops that i wouldn't even pay £1 for in a charity shop. All the information they provide about refunds seems to be designed to make you feel guilty about returning it too, even though the charity donation portion doesn't get refunded anyway.

Buggedandconfused · 17/08/2020 11:00

@blep the Lost Stock - we’ve lost faith Facebook group has all the info about returning or getting your money back.

Buggedandconfused · 17/08/2020 11:01

@blep and you are entitled to the full refund, plus your postage. Don’t let them guilt trip you. It’s all on the FB page I mentioned.

Coffee4Queen · 17/08/2020 16:49

Expect to see a lot of Daily Mail sad & angry faces soon. A DM journalist asked for interviewees from the lost faith FB. I would have done it but I won’t be able to handle the vicious comments Grin

I wish my clothes were here so I could hold up my £2 grey vest top and look sad and angry.
Coffee4Queen · 17/08/2020 18:35

@BullshitVivienne grey vest? Lucky you! I asked for brights & pattern & I received the black vest, white vest & another white camisole

Blep · 17/08/2020 20:58

@Buggedandconfused I'm not on FB, is the info available anywhere else?

TBHno · 19/08/2020 00:32

Out of interest, how much of a refund are they offering? Do you get the full £35 back?

Diceroll · 19/08/2020 08:46

By law they have to refund the full amount plus postage, so £38.99. What they are trying to do though is just offer a partial refund, minus the donation, and people are having to quote consumer law at them to get what they are entitled to. The guilt trip is pretty gross, especially as a lot of people who have recieved a full refund have donated more directly to the charity.

TBHno · 19/08/2020 12:08

Someone on Twitter said that if you ask for a refund, they advise you to swap the clothes in Facebook swap groups Grin
