Just ordering myself a box from this outfit:

loststock.co/

No idea when it will arrive but I thought it looked good, ordered one for DH too (in "dark" and "plain", he's a boring sod).

I ordered too. One box for me and one for DS.

Mine arrived on Saturday. Ordered darks and got the Aztec top, the green linen strappy Matalan top and the patterned linen dress. I’ll never wear the strappy top as I’m XXL and in my 50s but have arranged to swap it for a top I will wear. I wouldn’t have bought the patterned dress but it seems reasonable quality and I’ll probably give it a go. Even if only around the house and in the garden when it’s hot. I think the Aztec top might be a bit on the small side but I’ll put it away till I lose a bit of weight. I think it will be nice with black trousers or jeans and a jacket.

DS’s box hasn’t arrived yet. He’s 19. Be interested to see what arrives!

I think the idea behind it was good. Obviously the people behind it want to make a profit. No issue there. There will always be people who aren’t happy but I bought more as a charity donation so I’m happy enough. Not sure I would order another box though.

Really like the idea behind Lost Stock but I never got around to ordering one earlier in the summer so I just ordered an Autumn box last week. Should arrive late September/ early October. Bit disappointed to see peoples preferences for lights/ darks etc wasn't really taken into account but I do like the idea of a mystery package of clothes arriving! As other people have said, I'm looking at it as a charity donation primarily and hopefully if I don't like anything for myself I can pass on to family or friends who might wear them.

peekaboob · 11/08/2020 15:11

I got mine last week and received items that were not on my packing list, so someone somewhere has my order. I'm going to donate to charity as it states that returning items isn't encouraged, although I'm a bit peeved as wouldn't spend £35 on myself in one go and that's money wasted now.

HalleLouja · 11/08/2020 21:38

I have asked for a refund on both my boxes. They have now changed the description on their google search.

This looks like a great initiative. Has anyone got one of the men's boxes yet? My dh needs some new clothes.

@Bella2020

I received mine yesterday. I got one vest style top (way shorter than anything I'd dare wear!), two similar shapes sleeveless, v neck tops (both of which are fine, one colour preferable to the other, will be fine under a blazer or denim jacket) and a lovely linen shift dress (really like this, will be great for next year's holiday).

So, I'm happy enough with 3 of the 4 pieces I received. I'm not quite sure how they'd add up to £70 in the shops but, no matter. I'm pleased to know that a family will be helped with my donation.

I've got mine today and sounds like I have the same items as you. I'd not have chosen any of them myself but actually I really like and will wear all of them so I'm happy!
Juanmorebeer · 12/08/2020 12:49

The first I'd heard about this company was when a friend posted on her FB the 3 items she got. After seeing this thread I looked at the various Facebook groups out of curiosity.

I am yet to see a single item at all I'd wear, would be so gutted if I'd ordered one of these. There also seems to be no variation whatsoever in the age ranges of the boxes?

My friend is mid 30s and selected as such and was given the same (fugly) matalan items as someone who selected 16-20?!

I think trey still look like something an over 50 year old would wear.

Are there actually any nice items?

SockYarn · 12/08/2020 13:22

"Nice" is a relative term.

A lot of it is down to taste. Personally, I wouldn't wear anything sleeveless, so any items without sleeves, however well made and exquisitely designed, wouldn't be on my "nice" list.

I am however very worried that my 41-50 bright pattern box will be exactly the same as DD's 16-20 bright plains box.

TBHno · 12/08/2020 13:51

I would presume that the factories will be holding onto any clothes that will obviously be big sellers as they can surely sell them when the market picks back up?

SockYarn · 12/08/2020 14:10

Having said that, there is a puffy sleeved, crop top, ruffle collar THING which people have in their bags today which is quite simply the ugliest piece of clothing I've ever seen.

Casual ageism...

BullshitVivienne · 12/08/2020 14:52

I've had an email asking if I need to change my delivery address so maybe I'll get my sleeveless crop tops before summer is over!!!

(I also dislike sleeveless tops and my stomach after two babies needs coverage).

What exactly do you think us over 50s wear? Lol! Twinset? American Tan tights? A girdle!
Clymene · 12/08/2020 15:57

I wouldn't put any faith in you getting a box which bears any resemblance to what you asked for. Apart from size (which appears to be largely along the right lines), the contents of your parcel seem to be entirely unconnected to the age/colour/style preferences you stated.

Juanmorebeer · 12/08/2020 16:17

@bella2020 I've only seen pictures so far of linen items, vests with funny prints on or cotton blouses that are exactly the sort of things my Mum would buy from either supermarkets or M&S. She's 65 but dresses 'younger' hence my over 50 comment.

It is so confusing that these things have been sent to people age 16-20 or 20-24. Most of my friends are between 30 and 40 and would not be seen dead in them.

I also don't ever see these types of clothes in the high st shops I go to so it is even more confusing.

Saw someone mention bon marche, every item I've seen looks like it could be from there. Is that not a shop aimed at the older woman?

That's what I meant.

Gymntonic · 12/08/2020 16:52

Just had an email requesting I check my delivery address. That's promising. Ordered at the end of May. Expectations low as I've yet to see something I'd buy if I hadn't already bought it iyswm. Happy to be proved wrong. Might well get some use out of simple tops as lounge wear or share amongst family. Happy that have made a donation and you live and learn.
@Juanmorebeer maybe everyone dresses "younger than their age" especially if you equate poor quality and unstylish clothing with someone older than you?

Juanmorebeer · 12/08/2020 16:54

You might be right @gymtonic I suppose people must be buying these sorts of things for so many thousands of them to be ordered for the shops in the first place. It's just I've never seen this sort of thing in the shops I go to maybe

Clymene · 12/08/2020 17:16

The clothes are from Matalan so unless you shop there, you won't see stuff like that. I'm over 50 and I wouldn't be seen dead in 2 out of the 3 things I got! So basically I have a tie dye dress which looks like something you might buy from a stall at a fair or festival which has cost me close on £40

LawnFever · 12/08/2020 17:41

This is worth a watch and pretty sums up my feelings on it, I ordered a box have now swapped all the items but it's now cost me an additional £9.70 (know I didn't have to swap/pay the postage but it seemed better than just giving them to the charity shop)

lollyfog · 12/08/2020 18:13

I used to work in fashion buying. If they bought a load of pre made stock that another retailer cancelled they would pay an even lower cost price

Buggedandconfused · 12/08/2020 19:59

The company behind this are not a charity but a business. They are getting a ton of negative feedback now as no one is getting what they asked for, some people are getting more items than others and many items if not all, are from Matalan and nowhere near the £70 worth of items promised, let alone the £35 paid. They’ve also bought in a load of stock from China which some people are unhappy with for ethical reasons.

The official Lost Stock Facebook page is deleting negative comments and muting/blocking people en masse so another one has been set up by disgruntled customers so they can have free speech on the issues.

It’s a shame as it did look promising, but people feel they have been scammed whether it was intentional or not by the founder who incidentally does stand to profit quite well from the operation.

The best thing to do is to donate directly to the charity they are purporting to help.

Bunionbandit · 12/08/2020 20:05

I know Bella, that’s what I was thinking ! Us over 50’s ain’t over the style hill yet .... grrrr

BuffaloMozzerella · 12/08/2020 23:14

Looks like they have removed the Reviews section off their official FB page.

TBHno · 13/08/2020 00:02

Oh dear. I've just had a look at Twitter and things don't look good.

Lots of unhappy customers. lock stock are asking them to email their concerns directly, I wonder why...
