For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

One, since you're on the oilier side stick with oils rather than balms. DHC cleansing oil is good. Cheaper alternative is the Simple Cleansing Oil but it's not always easy to source.

An oil shouldn't be an issue, it's not staying on your skin anyhow, it's emulsified and washed off and then another cleanser cleanses off any remnant oil.

There you go 😁

onedaysoonish · 04/06/2020 14:18

Fab thanks both! 30ml of DHC ordered will see how I get on Grin

botemp · 04/06/2020 14:21

Just for clarification since you're new to oil cleansers, you apply it to dry skin, then add water to emulsify and rinse off. Some prefer to flannel it off.

onedaysoonish · 04/06/2020 14:22

So dry as in with makeup on?

SallieSallow · 04/06/2020 14:25

Just popping in to say hello 👋 nothing much to report as I’m trying to purge/declutter as well as save money so nothing new skincare or makeup wise being bought or trialled.

I have dyed my hair though Shock after saying I wouldn’t attempt to lighten my hair at home I went ahead and attempted it Grin it did go yellow/orange at first but a cool ash brown dye followed by a purple toner sorted that out and it’s pretty much exactly how I wanted it now.

I won’t go for it right now as trying to be frugal but very interested in hearing how the dermatica tret compares to retirides from Spain in the long term. I’ve been using retirides for a good couple of years now and not noticing any results, though admittedly I have had a few breaks during that time and I guess my skin could be worse if I hadn’t been using it.

ClientQ · 04/06/2020 14:53

@botemp I am no longer killing my back or wrecking my makeup table Grin

Hi Sallie, having used both (I'm on the 0.025 Dermatica at the moment and used 0.05 Retirides for 2/3 years before my skin went crazy in February and multiple OTC Retinols before that), I'd say the Dermatica is a really nice formulation, less irritating than Retirides - although we'll see what happens when they increase the concentration...

I usually take a Retinoid break over the summer but won't if I continue to tolerate it as well as I am now :)

Bo The kids Global Babe looks like it might be a good size for me - but I can't find a seller here. Thanks for the headsup though!

TattiePants · 04/06/2020 15:00

@onedaysoonish the first cleanse in a double cleanse is to remove makeup and sunscreen so yes, apply on to dry skin, emulsify and rinse. The second stage (CeraVe) removes any traces of the oil.

I've just bought the DHC oil too but haven't tried it yet. I really don't like the texture of oils but I'm going to give it a try as it's highly rated.

botemp · 04/06/2020 15:04

One, yes, just smear it all over the makeup, massage (lightly) and then add water.

Your hair colouring journey sounds very daring Sallie, I'm glad it ended up with exactly the colour you wanted and not yellow orange Shock

Oh Client that looks much much better. So pleased for your back. Does this mean we get lovely makeup looks again? I am actually wearing some today, had a sample of Clinique even better to try and it's actually really nice, undetectable but evens out skin perfectly with otherwise super light coverage. Colour is slightly to dark for me but it's a really nice product.

Tsm, I think Sophie or was it Pupsie ordered from the Global Babes website and it was just shipped from Singapore and it did not take an eternity to get here.

That's very pretty with your eye colour.

SallieSallow · 04/06/2020 15:55

Thanks Tsm I might move to dermatica when my current supply of retirides runs out, am a bit reluctant to fork out for a subscription service at the moment with things being quite unpredictable work wise.

Bo I did get lucky but I always knew that worst case scenario I could shove a dark brown dye on and get back to where I started. I have super tough/strong hair and been colouring it myself for 30 plus years now so I’m not a lockdown novice who normally leaves it to the hairdresser.

Jedstre · 04/06/2020 19:05

@SallieSallow I also used retrides from Spain, Differin before that.
The dermatica tret is a nicer texture than Retrides. Dermatica is a nice gel texture (not a clear gel so not a drying texture). I’m still on the 0.25%. It lasts longer than a month and you can reduce the frequency of the delivery.

SallieSallow · 04/06/2020 20:24

Thanks Jedstre how long have you been using dermatica & any results yet or is it too soon? And - burning question Grin any tret face yet???

I’ll definitely look into it especially if you can reduce frequency, is it easy to cancel?

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 04/06/2020 21:02

Re: Vitamin C - used to use Cellex - but so expensive from the UK. Am using Medi8 Intense which I quite like.

The No 7 Retinoid arrived, but will wait until the LRP is finished before trying it. The idea being to stay on a low dose of 03% over the summer and then maybe increase over autumn/winter.

heard from work today that we are going to be working from home indefinitely. Mixed feelings but means that I can can plan on not wearing make up, other than for the odd zoom meeting.

agteacht · 04/06/2020 21:49

@ilovemydogandmrobama2 just realised we are both on the BSD thread, I couldn't figure out where I knew your name from ☺️

agteacht · 04/06/2020 21:50

@ClientQ gorgeous eye makeup but I'm jealous of your wrinkle-free forehead 😂

ClientQ · 04/06/2020 21:59

@agteacht I had Botox but I haven't had any for a year now! Birthday was March and I'm now closer to 40 than 30 Blush

agteacht · 04/06/2020 22:05

@ClientQ i am in the same age range and your forehead looks 100X better than mine. I would never have known it was Botox!

ClientQ · 04/06/2020 22:17

@agteacht it's all worn off now Grin
Last two times were Jan 2019 and June 2019, full movement and lines there Grin I have quite strong 11 lines so had more there and a tiny bit across my forehead

agteacht · 04/06/2020 22:24

Oh sorry missed that bit!! Even better in that case!!

SophieLion · 05/06/2020 07:14

Tsmummy I ordered global babes hat direct from
them In Singapore and it came quickly without me having to pay customs etc. This was a couple of years ago now. Might be different with covid these days.

There was a website in UK that stocked them. I think Pupsie might have bought from there. Don't remember name but it came up on google.

botemp · 05/06/2020 07:20

Wasn't the UK site something with flamingos?

What does BSD stand for?

OP posts:
Tsmummy08 · 05/06/2020 08:38

Yes it's Flamingo something but they don't do the kids ones and I'm reluctant to order a ££ hat from Singapore without being able to return easily... I found a few small hats on this site but have already had to send one back that was too big!
