How often do you remove all your make up (if you wear it) before bed?

Question prompted by discussion with a friend. I have always removed all make up, scrubbed face, and moisturised before bed. No matter how tired, drunk, or whatever. Same with brushing teeth. These are non negotiable bedtime activities. Friend claims that plenty of people go to bed without removing make up - hadn't considered this before but I'm surprised (like, doesn't it make the pillow grimy?!)

Do you cleanse before bed? Or just roll into bed and worry about it later?

(No disapproval implied AT ALL btw. I have plenty of nasty habits! Just genuinely curious.)

Never.

EasyPleasey · 22/04/2020 21:34

I do remove make up and moisturise before bed. However, if I'm going to sleep with a boyfriend I usually leave a little bit of pencil eyeliner on so I dont look so bare faced in the morning Grin

@Sunshineskies
I take my mascara off by first washing my face with lacura face wash (green bottle from aldi). It is gentle and never stings my eyes as other fave washes have. I then go over my eyes again with a cleansing wipe and it's gone. Wink

I hardly ever cleanse before bed. I don't wear much makeup and it has pretty much all gone by tea time anyway.

MoonlightMistletoe · 22/04/2020 21:48

My skin is sensitive and so I cleanse every night to prevent blocked pores and what not, plus I can't jump into bed for the night with my "face on" it doesn't feel right!

SundayGirlB · 22/04/2020 21:48

Religiously every night, no matter how drunk etc. I get cystic acne and just know the next day I'll have a humdinger brewing if I don't.

CorianderLord · 22/04/2020 21:50

Whenever I do wear it I remove all of it before bed every time (unless I'm really steaming drunk, and even then I usually makeup wipe it).

carlywurly · 22/04/2020 21:51

Always, I love the feeling of clean, moisturised skin. I'd have to be shitfaced not to, that's rare these days..!

I've always used a foaming face wash, make up remover and a night moisturiser before bed and credit it for the fact I'm often told I look a lot younger than I am.

CorianderLord · 22/04/2020 21:52

I knew someone at secondary who removed her makeup only every three days and just applied more on top of it until her lashes got too thick.

She always wondered why her skin wasn't clear

peachgreen · 22/04/2020 21:54

My skin is crying at the people who use exfoliator every night! I double cleanse, tone and moisturise every night and morning and then do an essence sheet mask and oil twice a week. Can't imagine not washing my face before bed. But then I also have to shower every night and I know that's weird.

FireandFury · 22/04/2020 22:05

Always, never mind what state I’ve been in. Have had my dp take it off for me when I’ve been bladdered. Usual routine is cleansing balm, retinol tonic, retinol serum, niacinimide and moisturiser.

Graffitiqueen · 22/04/2020 22:06

Never

Mistymonday · 22/04/2020 22:07

Never!

eurochick · 22/04/2020 22:16

Always, even when hammered (rare these days).

Ginfordinner · 22/04/2020 22:21

Shock at the number of posters who go to sleep with make up on. Do you change your pillowcase every day?

Bluebooby · 22/04/2020 22:23

I rarely wear make up these days but when I do, I usually thoroughly cleanse. If I am feeling very tired then I will at the very least use a baby wipe and/or toner on cotton wool to wipe off what I can. I hate the feeling of make up on my face. I feel like my skin can't breathe.

Dowser · 22/04/2020 22:26

Every night
Always have

Candyflosscookie · 22/04/2020 22:46

Cleanse tone and night cream or oil every night whether I've been wearing makeup, spf or nothing. I just like the routine and my skin looks and feels better in the morning. I'm in my 50s and have done this for many years now after a dodgy drunk start to skincare in my teens and 20s!

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 22/04/2020 23:04

No need for pillowcase change.. I don't sleep on my face Confused

Tbh, most of mine had worn off by bedtime, and I have never worn foundation (never have, so never need to, if you see what I mean).

Any recommendations for a very very light moisturizer though? Mostly for eye area. At 50 the lines are starting to show.

LunchBoxPolice · 22/04/2020 23:07

Sometimes, if I’m feeling fancy.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/04/2020 23:11

Oh I couldn't sleep in a face full of make up.

RealLifeHotWaterBottle · 22/04/2020 23:12

@Sunshineskies I use micellar water on a pad, press it on each eye for 20 seconds then wipe. Then I follow with a cream to oil cleanser and wipe that off with a hot wet face cloth

The first step removes most of the mascara and the second step makes sure its all gone.

indemMUND · 22/04/2020 23:14

Always. Even after a very rare heavy night out I do my routine with one eye shut and hopping about. I haven't slept with make up on for years. It only takes a couple of minutes. And I wear heavy make up daily (well I did before lockdown Grin)

RealLifeHotWaterBottle · 22/04/2020 23:14

This begs the question, does everyone apply a moisturizer with SPF or a separate SPF each morning?

The reason I always double cleanse is really to ensure I've taken off my sunscreen.

lovinglavidaloca · 22/04/2020 23:14

Every night. Couldn’t sleep with make up on. Eww.
