How often do you remove all your make up (if you wear it) before bed?

Question prompted by discussion with a friend. I have always removed all make up, scrubbed face, and moisturised before bed. No matter how tired, drunk, or whatever. Same with brushing teeth. These are non negotiable bedtime activities. Friend claims that plenty of people go to bed without removing make up - hadn't considered this before but I'm surprised (like, doesn't it make the pillow grimy?!)

Do you cleanse before bed? Or just roll into bed and worry about it later?

(No disapproval implied AT ALL btw. I have plenty of nasty habits! Just genuinely curious.)

Every night! Why not?

Are all you sleep-with-makeup-on folk changing your pillow cases every day?

Gottobefree · 22/04/2020 10:14

Every night! Take my make up off as soon as I can, then cleansing skin care routine before bed and always brush my teeth. No matter what drunken state I'm in... I love the clean feeling before bed.

BunnytheHoneyBee · 22/04/2020 10:15

Every night, no scrubbing though

And this.

On a sort of related note I really recommend the Make Up Eraser or similar product for removing make up at night. It’s. A soft cloth that removes make up with just water. I feel like it has saved me a fortune in cleanser, cotton pads and wipes plus it is more environmentally friendly.

VenusClapTrap · 22/04/2020 10:39

Gosh. I’m the scruffiest of scruffs but I’ve never slept in makeup.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/04/2020 18:49

Always. I tend to cleanse when I get in from work rather than before bed. It feels like taking the working day off.

ClientQ · 22/04/2020 19:41

Every single time. Am and PM routine
Post emergency spinal op I asked for the nurse to pass my bag and she was Confused as I pulled out my skincare Grin

EllaPaella · 22/04/2020 19:58

Always before bed

BlackSwan · 22/04/2020 20:27

Every night. It's non-negotiable.

GatoFofo · 22/04/2020 20:33

Hardly ever. I use a hot cloth cleanser in the shower in the morning. After reading all the other replies I feel slightly ashamed though Blush

youngestisapsycho · 22/04/2020 20:35

Never have done.

MegUffin · 22/04/2020 20:37

I'm terrible.

Soap and water. Maybe moisturiser if I can be arsed.

I know, it's awful isn't it.

Drogonssmile · 22/04/2020 20:38

I HAVE to take my make up off with soap (not cleanser) or I can 100% guarantee I will get at least one spot if I don't. Moisturise with something fairly gentle and it's fine.

YakkityYakYakYak · 22/04/2020 20:39

I cleanse and moisturise my face every night without fail, even if I haven’t been wearing makeup. I’ve got acne prone skin and have really suffered with cystic acne in the past so it’s just not worth letting the routine slide.

Battysace123 · 22/04/2020 20:41

I cleanse my face every night followed by HA, facial oil and moisturiser.

KellyHall · 22/04/2020 20:42

I don't wear much make-up, it's usually all but gone by bed time. I take my mascara off a couple of times a week as the stuff just seems to stick like glue so it's easier to leave it there for a few days at a time than rub my eyes raw trying to get it off. That's all in the winter. In the summer I don't wear any make-up, my hayfever is so bad that I'm constantly washing my face each time I've been outside or my eyes feel itchy.

Fluora · 22/04/2020 20:43

Never. But I don't wear eye make-up just foundation/concealer/powder and most of it seems to have disappeared by midday anyway.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 22/04/2020 20:54

I rarely even wash my face. Despite that, and my slovenly attitude to makeup removal, I've got really good skin, and look at least 5 years younger than my age. Might need some moisturizer soon I guess?

I do wash off suncream though, because it feels gross.

WithIcePlease · 22/04/2020 21:00

About 50/50
I occasionally just top it up the next day after wiping mascara/eyeliner from under my eyes Wink

MargotEmin · 22/04/2020 21:07

Always, it's one of my favourite rituals.

DaintySong · 22/04/2020 21:16

Every single night before bed. Leaving it on while sleeping is supposed to be really bad for your skin.

I'm sorry but I'd feel disgusting.. I need to feel clean in the morning.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 22/04/2020 21:21

Every evening, without fail. Flannel and wamr water and facial oil. Once a week a scrub. Slap on the serum. Imagine your pillow if you didn't!

RedDiamond · 22/04/2020 21:22

Never. But the upside is, all that uncleansed grease has kept my skin quite wrinkle free. I am quite old...

Sunshineskies · 22/04/2020 21:25

I always wash off my face makeup but tend to take off my mascara in the shower in the morning. I’m interested to know how other people take their mascara of before bed? I’ve found it so difficult to remove at the sink or with a cleanser and pad.

stardance · 22/04/2020 21:27

Always. I can't imagine going to bed with make up on!

I've suffered with acne over the years so even though it's well controlled now, I tend not to do anything that could potentially make spots worse.

MozzchopsThirty · 22/04/2020 21:28

Every night take off with micellar water and cotton wool pads

Put on rose facial oil
Then vitamin E & avocado night cream
Pat on some eye cream

Then bed
