How often do you remove all your make up (if you wear it) before bed?

Question prompted by discussion with a friend. I have always removed all make up, scrubbed face, and moisturised before bed. No matter how tired, drunk, or whatever. Same with brushing teeth. These are non negotiable bedtime activities. Friend claims that plenty of people go to bed without removing make up - hadn't considered this before but I'm surprised (like, doesn't it make the pillow grimy?!)

Do you cleanse before bed? Or just roll into bed and worry about it later?

(No disapproval implied AT ALL btw. I have plenty of nasty habits! Just genuinely curious.)

Thanks @Anthilda I’ll have to get some of that!

I don't like wearing make up because I have sensitive skin and go a day without wearing makeup is too difficult for me. Otherwise, I get a lot of stinkin' odors. Sometimes I just get rid of it with deodorant.
My skin is extremely dry.
Do you use your regular moisturizer or use something else to hydrate your skin? What products do you use to soothe and soften the skin? Answer » A: I usually use a skin cleanser on my face and lightly moisturize my body on a daily basis. But as to what products I use on my body — the best thing is makeupexp.com/foundation-for-heat-and-humidity/

Thank you for the other replies too. Some really good ideas, going to try them all out as I hate going to bed with mascara on.

Always.

To those who've said "never", do you never wash your face?

XingMing · 23/04/2020 17:12

If I've worn make up, I take it off with a cream to oil cleanser and a warm flannel, otherwise it's a wipeover with micellar on a pad, followed by oil or moisturiser. Face is washed and cleaned in the morning with a rotating brush in the shower, then sprayed with a hydrating toner, serum and day-time moisturiser, with a little tinted moisturiser added if I feel my skin looks uneven. But I am old, rural and often go weeks without more than a lick of mascara. In days gone by, when living in big cities, I was more thorough because urban pollution and traffic fumes....

I always remove make up and moisturise. Although I use the lazy person method where I take a dollop of coconut oil, rub it between my hands to melt it and then 'wash' my face with it. Aftewards I take a flannel that I've run under warm water, and remove the oil with that. Then I put my home made extra virgin olive oil and beeswax cream on and I'm good to go. I've done the white cotton wool test by the way and I never have any make up left on my skin after removing it with the method outlined above.

I've been terrible but recent Zoom meetings has made me sit up an£ take notice.

One of the best bits of advice I got was from a Clarins rep who recommended keeping your nighttime cleansing routine in a bag down the side of the sofa as you're more likely to do it whilst watching TV instead of when you go to bed tired and it does work. I've sat here at 9pm now for 2 weeks solid and done my night time routine so I'm going to stick to it!

This is making me feel a right slattern! I only wash my face properly in the shower every other day. Sometimes I’ll use a baby wipe to get rid of eye make up. I only wear mascara and liner, no foundation etc day to day. I moisturise after washing and if my skin feels dry in between.
Interestingly enough, since I adopted this approach I don’t get spots, something which blighted me way into my late 30’s. Up until then I spent a fortune on different cleansing routines and my skin was always shit.
Fascinating answers in this thread.

Never.
I have been blessed with problem free skin, and I also think that women are mugged off in terms of companies/society telling us we have to spend lots of time/money on our appearance I'm basically too lazy.

I am getting older now and my skin is starting to get drier, so I need to start adding oil/moisturiser to my skin before bed. I am going to have to change my habits of a lifetime.

I haven't worn any make up for over a month, but I still wash my face with soap and water before going to bed. I would feel grubby if I didn't.

I also wash my face with soap after going to the supermarket.

Try coconut oil instead. I buy it from the local Asian food stores. Cheap as chips and incredibly effective and kind on your skin. Plus you can use it as a hair mask. I even use it as a wood treatment on our stairs!
