Not as icky as it sounds, but I could go a week. Just wondered if people leave it longer and could it make the condition better? I thought since I'm home, better try and improve my condition all over!

Nearly a week when not doing it for work.

Wakeupsunshine · 11/04/2020 11:00

Only two days. On the third it is so greasy I can’t look in the mirror.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 11/04/2020 11:17

I have to wash it on the second day, minimum. Ideally I would go longer I have greasy roots and dry ends. I shower every day and have chin length medium textured hair that dries pretty quickly, so it isn’t a big deal to wash it daily.

MrsWooster · 11/04/2020 11:29

Four days, so far. I’ll keep you updated! (I look like Argus Filch, btw)

BoswellsBollocks · 11/04/2020 11:31

About 10 hours before it looks like it needs a wash.

I wash it daily but I truly have the most greasy hair, and no, trying to make it go longer between washes does not work.

oohnicevase · 11/04/2020 11:32

I'm on about day 7( I've lost count ) .. my hair is naturally curly but needs product to prevent frizz but if I blow dry it wavy then it lasts ages ... I'm seeing how long I can go without washing it .. just for fun🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
When it's curly it lasts about 4/5 days before I have to wash it so it's not that weird for me . It just looks the same when I get up on the morning so no point !!

pinkrocker · 11/04/2020 11:33

Longest I've managed is 8 days. The amount of dry shampoo I'd used during those days was ua fair bit, and it was making my face itch (yes I washed my face but the powder just seemed to "drift" downwards!)
My hack is: when I'm in the bath, I tie my hair in a tight bun at the base of my neck and just wash the top. As long as you blow dry the top, the rest can be tied back in a pony and no-one will know what the underneath is like Grin

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 11/04/2020 11:38

@BoswellsBollocks do you shampoo twice? I find that helped me so much.

Terralee · 11/04/2020 11:39

1 day, very occasionally 2. The roots go too greasy.

Dollywilde · 11/04/2020 11:43

Very fine but frizzy hair and usually for work I need to wash it every day not to look vile. Can get away with every other day if it’s the weekend and I’m not going anywhere ‘nice’.

However at the moment I’m pregnant and my pregnancy hair is AMAZING. Can easily wash it Monday and still have it looking ‘work acceptable’ on Wednesday morning. Since lockdown and not mixing with pollution as well I’m generally washing hair once on the weekend and once in the week. It’s incredible. Am really not looking forward to the hair loss post birth though, I’m frantically searching for supplements. I think it needs to come from within as putting stuff on just doesn’t seem to work - anything for grease makes it mad and flyaway, anything for the frizz weighs it down too much.

fedupandlookingforchange · 11/04/2020 11:45

I am pregnant but Ive reduced how often I wash it during lockdown and its still looking fine after a week. I can have greasy hair and find if I wash it daily it makes it much worse.
I'm going to give no shampoo a go for as long as I can!

MartyrGuacamole · 11/04/2020 11:48

I usually do it Monday, Tuesday and Friday but at the minute I'm doing it every 3 rd day as it doesn't matter so much. I'm finding that as time goes on it's settled into this routine quite well and I'm hoping I can continue it! I have long thick hair that takes ages to wash and dry so the less often the better. I use a little talcum powder on the roots on the 3rd day. Don't use dry shampoo anymore as found it felt sticky.

evilharpy · 11/04/2020 11:49

Every other day, it’s very greasy and yes I’ve tried leaving it longer and no it doesn’t work. Unfortunately it’s also very frizzy and needs straightening every day as I wake up looking like a haystack. A Brazilian blow dry works great but lasts about three weeks.

woodencoffeetable · 11/04/2020 11:49

I only use shampoo once a week, in between I just rinse it in the shower.
I think it would start to smell without rinsing out the sweat.

BillieEilish · 11/04/2020 11:52

I can go a week at least easy on lockdown! It's simply not really getting dirty and is always tied up in a messy bun anyway!

Good for your hair to leave it as long as possible. Good for the condition.

Astoatora54 · 11/04/2020 11:54

Three days and it looks awful. It's quicker to wash then all the faffing that I would need to do to make it look halfway decent.

MissBax · 11/04/2020 11:55

How long CAN you? I'd say as long as you want, in fact I'm sure if you leave it 6weeks+ it's meant to improve the quality and you shouldn't need to wash it ever again!

How long SHOULD you? Probably not long really, a few days max before it's filled with dust, grease and dirt particles.

How long DO you? I probably wash mine 1-2 times a week

Oldraver · 11/04/2020 12:01

When I'm using a shampoo bar a few days. By the third day it starts to look greasy at the roots but the rest is ok

granadagirl · 11/04/2020 12:01

I’ve short hair with longer layers, always had greasy hair.

Since trying a new hairdresser she mentioned how the girls in there had a bet who could leave the hair unwashed the longest
I said I have to wash everyday!!!
She said just put talc on the roots or batiste, I ve started doing this
Just putting straighteners through just to get style back, then spraying the roots
I can go 4 days now

simbobs · 11/04/2020 12:02

I usually wash mine twice a week, though it does seem to be getting greasy roots at the moment, but dry shampoo sorts that out. My hairdresser tells me to wash it as infrequently as possible. I think it does work in allowing you to leave loner between washes, but you have to be able to persevere with it, and that doesn't suit every lifestyle

Pinkblueberry · 11/04/2020 12:05

1 day, then dry shampoo then wash again. I have to say I’m not a believer in the whole ‘just leave it and it will stop going greasy on it’s own’ - perhaps after leaving it for 2 or 3 months but I’m sure as hell not doing that. I have oily skin on my face and chest so it makes sense that my head would be naturally oily too - you wouldn’t advise someone to not wash their face for days on end because they have oily skin. Everyone’s hair is naturally different and has different needs.

Emus · 11/04/2020 12:06

I have greasy hair which is bloody annoying. I wash my hair every other day and use dry shampoo the non-wash. I can only get away with dry shampoo for one day.

egginabap · 11/04/2020 12:07

2 days max. I have greasy roots, dry as hell ends and dandruff that's has appeared from nowhere. I used to be able to leave it about 4-5 days in my twenties, before dry shampoo even existed!

hawleybits · 11/04/2020 12:10

I could probably go a week without washing but it would stink! I don't mind how it looks, in fact mine looks better after a few days but smells horrible!

BrexpatInSwitzerland · 11/04/2020 12:12

Extra-dry hair - I usually wash it every Sunday and no more. (Used to wash daily, my hair has been so much better since I've stopped this!) If needed, I'll apply a minimum amount of dry shampoo on Thursday, but, really, I don't have to normally.

I'm actually trying to use the lockdown to go full-on shampoo free and have only been rinsing with water. I'm on week 3 and still not particularly greasy.
