Rose perfume recommendations

I'm looking for a nice rose perfume for my mum's birthday. Obviously in normal life I'd go on a smelling spree but right now I can't.

She's specified that she wants a rose scented perfume that smells like 'old dusky roses', and I have no idea where to start.

Needs to be available online in the UK, and my budget is about £40, so alas Tom Ford out of the picture!

Frederick Malle Une Rose or La Fille De Berlin by Serge Lutens.
Une Rose is very expensive but you can buy smaller sizes. It's absolutely stunning though and we'll worth it.
The other alternative is to buy a Rose perfume testing kit from Bloom to see which one your mum would like. OR try a sample set from La Rosine Perfumes as they specialise in Rose Perfumes.
Look the perfumes up on Fragantica to read reviews - It's a brilliant online resource.

Molton and Brown have one which smelt lovely in the shop.

Rainallnight · 29/03/2020 12:54

I like the Chloé roses one. Not sure about price though.

Secretlifeofme · 29/03/2020 12:54

Jo Malone has two, Red Roses and Rose Oud. Rose Oud is quite spicy but Red Roses just smells like pure roses. I get compliments whenever I wear it

YSL Paris
Rock' n' Rose by Valentino

starryeyed19 · 29/03/2020 12:58

Seconding YSL Paris. It's LUSH

Rainallnight · 29/03/2020 12:58

Oh yes, the Jo Malone one is lovely, and they do little bottles.

emsyj37 · 29/03/2020 12:59

Paul Smith Rose is very good.

bettybea · 29/03/2020 13:03

Another suggestion for Stella. Gorgeous smell. Definitely a dusky rose. Bottle is pretty too.

HappyHammy · 29/03/2020 13:08

M&S for me. Cheaper so I buy handcream and shower gel too.

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 29/03/2020 13:18

Another vote for Paul Smith Rose, if Jo Malone Red Roses is out of your price range. Body Shop also do a lovely Rose eau de toilette.

sparemeasecond · 29/03/2020 13:19

Another for Paul Smith Rose, would have recommended that myself! Not sure if it's still on the market though?

MaJoady · 29/03/2020 14:26

Paul Smith Rose is great, my day perfume most of the time. You can now get it quite cheaply on Amazon because it's quite old. It's a lovely fresh rose, not "old lady" or dusky at all, so might not be quite what you want.

If her birthday isn't too soon and you'd like something a bit special (but not crazy money), I'd recommend Raw Silk and Roses from 4160 Tuesdays. It's a beautiful traditional slightly fruity rose scent. However, they're shut ATM for CV. They also have a punchier option called Killer Rose

SazCat · 29/03/2020 14:31

I'd recommend Stella too, it's lovely

Paul Smith Rose x

PastramiAndRye · 29/03/2020 14:36

I love Jo Malone Red Roses, but I find the Paul Smith one a bit sweet for me.

evilharpy · 29/03/2020 14:42

I love Paul Smith Rose but it is quite sweet.

Maybe Tom Ford Cafe Rose? It’s been ages since I smelled it so can’t remember it too well but I don’t remember it being overly sweet.

ScouseMar · 29/03/2020 14:43

Another vote for jo malone red roses- lush!

Speminalium · 29/03/2020 14:45

Jo Malone Red roses gorgeous, comes in small bottles. I quite like the L'Occitane one too.
