When this is all over are you going to buy something special?

Either because you’ve got some money you would have frittered away in the shops or to mark surviving it, something to look forward to maybe?

I’d like to buy a really pretty dress from an independent designer or an ethical brand. I’ve been looking at palava folk.
I don’t really need it but want to support small business who are struggling.
Also I’m looking closely at how businesses treat their staff during all of this, I know where I won’t be spending my money

I don’t really buy many clothes as I do a one in one out policy and don’t go over 30 items. I have been planning some additions for ages, but I’m holding off now. I did buy the air and grace trainers I had been eyeing, as they had a 20% off code. I also bought some scamp and dude joggers and some new Birkenstock’s.

I’m also going to try and go through my wardrobe and check the condition of every thing, de bobble anything that needs it and treat my doc martens and other leather shoes.

No. I have more beautiful clothes, bags, shoes and jewellery than I need. Being a very high earner, I could in theory buy what I want but this crisis has highlighted what’s really important: family, friends, community and faith.

lazylinguist · 04/04/2020 09:53

I don't normally buy much for myself and tbh would be more inclined to treat myself to nice things now, during the lockdown, to cheer myself up, rather than to wait until it's over. When it's over I'll celebrate by going out, seeing family and friends etc.

Abraid2 · 04/04/2020 09:54

No because we are financially smashed by this pandemic.

Thankssomuch · 04/04/2020 20:22

Basically I really enjoy clothes, and fashion in general. It’s not important, but it’s something I like and (I’m speaking as a heterosexual woman) I don’t feel I have to justify as every man I’ve ever known has no problem at all in spending whatever they want to on hobbies - be it the guitar, football, shooting, pub, cycling, rugby or whatever. And I earn my money. So yes, as much As I love my family I’m still buying gorgeous stuff for myself and I’m really enjoying it. Top end high street stuff. Love it. That turned into a bit of a rant. Don’t know why really!

Thanks for all of the replies. Kind of sums up all the, sometimes conflicting, ideas in my head!

I saw an offer on a piece of jewellery I had my eye on (Mirabelle Seed of Life) so I can look forward to that coming in the next week or so Smile.

We are fortunate that DH and I have considerable savings and both work in key industries (and can both WFH) so at the moment I reckon we are saving a few hundred a month from not having petrol, childcare or sporting clubs to pay for. I'm not buying shoes but will buy some more casual clothes soon, I need a buffet dress for the summer!

I think lockdown/school closures/social distancing will go on till Sept at the earliest. If so we'll have a UK holiday in Oct (currently booked for May) and then possibly go abroad somewhere warm next spring depending how things are. I am not convinced people will reconsider their spending, those of us who still have jobs at the end of this will want to spend when this, is over, e.g. I'll want a meal out with friends and family after this. At the moment I'm spending money on the house instead of clothes, we've bought various things to make life easier in lockdown (second computer for the DC, various garden toys, good quality office chair for the study, etc etc) and we've got lots of diy stuff for the house as well.

Upgrade car from 3 doors to 5 doors
(not brand new 2nd hand) that was the plan before lockdown so will resume the search mainly for ease of use for baby car seat and boot storage for buggy, groceries etc.
