How to look Expensive in a Pandemic

Trying desperately to distract/cheer myself up here..!

I started a "expensive" thread back in the day that ended up going for weeks, it was great ( Expensive in the summer IIRC)

Looks like we might be stuck home for a while then doesn't it?
To try and brighten the mood what about a lighthearted thread about how we plan to self isolate in a glamorous fashion?!
Maybe bit of princessing thrown in there..emerge beautified after the chaos subsides? Using up our beauty hoard? If we don't use stuff up now we never will!

I’m wafting around the house feeling elegant in matching pyjama sets and dressing gowns/kimonos/loungewear and wearing pretty fluffy slippers.

Excuse dodgy pedicure (not used to doing it myself anymore) and odd angle which makes my legs look strange!

I’m using time at home to overhaul myself. Have been using my fasciablaster, derma rolled my face, hair masks etc etc
I intend to rejoin the world looking 10 years younger!

JaceLancs · 21/03/2020 20:38

I’ve been working from home since last week and am dressing up every day including heels which I wouldn’t normally wear but am only walking from desk in sitting room to either cloakroom or kitchen!
I might try a few long leave in hair treatments as no one will see me with a turban on

OhioOhioOhio · 21/03/2020 20:41

Exercise

OhTheRoses · 21/03/2020 20:48

I'm sticking to routine. WFH and on video after video call. Shower, do hair, put on work frock and make-up and my work shoes - can't work in slippers. The video calls have made me realise I really must give hair a brush and refresh lippy after lunch - also that a loved dress shows a tiny bit too much cleavage and I'd never realised.

Will need a cut and colour in about two weeks and really hoping my hairdresser will be open.

AwdBovril · 21/03/2020 20:52

I am joining this thread (I never join these, just lurk as I can't afford it). I'm going to:

Drink more water
Try to eat less junk (potentially tricky)
Get to bed earlier
Have more baths, I bought some bath salts a few days ago especially, thinking I might be stuck at home with this (am asthmatic)
Use my Italy Towels in the bath to blitz my KP - they're really effective
Make more effort to stick to my skincare regime
The above point to include body lotion
Probably start shaving my legs - because why not, I'm not exactly rushed for time...
If weight loss occurs, I will start making some clothes - I have fabric & patterns, just no motivation (as currently too fat)
And maybe, just possibly, practice my eyeliner skills. But let's not get silly & expect miracles here...

StCharlotte · 21/03/2020 20:54

Yes I might wear my FMBs. Until I have to go downstairs to make tea obvs.

Ginger153 · 21/03/2020 20:56

Love this. I've been working at home all week. Been getting up showering and properly dressed but no make up. I've realised how god awful my neck wrinkles look via video calls! And, I took my nail varnish off and didn't re do it like usual.

I've been rocking every bit of lovely wool or cashmere I own though, but definitely need the mascara and nails to feel human again before I end up looking like miss marple.

Off to dig around for lovely masks in the back of bathroom cupboard...

In the last month I've had Botox for the first time, a chemical peel, an injectable hyaluronic/collagen facial deep into the tissues (it really hurt but it looked amazing!) and my highlights done

I joked to colleagues the other day I would be the best looking corpse Grin

I had all this booked before the thing hit and I'd paid for it all in advance - and now I'm bloody trapped for months on end not able to show it off 🤷‍♀️ literally schadenfraude

Russellbrandshair · 21/03/2020 21:03

@Halfeatentoast

😆

OhTheRoses · 21/03/2020 21:09

Oh and we had a video call virtual drinks party at 6pm on Friday and it was obvs everyone made a bit of an effort :))

diamondsandrose · 21/03/2020 21:27

Laurie oh no !! Unfortunate timing. FaceTime everyone you know to show off your efforts

Love that my thread title made someone lol

I just cried at Ant and Dec, the bit at the end with all the nurses and old folk and babies

I’m giving this a go... for some reason my hair has been really dull and broken loads recently so I’ve bought loads of hair treatments and masks to use, and I’ve been giving my skin a rest from makeup. Fiancé can’t seem to tell whether I’m wearing foundation or not anyway Hmm Grin

I’ve painted my nails today and although I’m slipping into trackies more, I’m hoping to keep in comfy but daytime clothes... I work from home all the time, so I have no excuse really!

Twigletgirl27 · 21/03/2020 21:38

My hairdressers closed today....... I have a shortish layered style and I'm going to look shit very soon 🙈🙈

Sickoffamilydrama · 21/03/2020 21:48

I don't think I'd fit into the skirt of my wedding dress after 3 kids Hmm definitely time to get fit.
I to expected my apocalypse outfit to be a bit different but I was thinking of channeling walking dead so this.

Great thread.

  1. I’m going to grow my hair (it will take a long time as it’s crap) as I want to try a blunt cut bob to see if it will make my very thin, fine hair look any better.
  1. Eat healthily. Already made a start on this as can’t go out to replenish chocolate and other junk.
  1. Go for a daily walk. Last time I seriously went on a mission to walk a hour a day I firmed up, lost weight and looked in the best shape since pre DC - over 30 years ago.
  1. Wearing no make up. I’m dependent on it and have worn it since I was 14. I want to let my skin breathe and try wean myself off it and when I do wear it, wear less.
  1. Look after my nails, hands, feet. I’m too shaky to attempt nail colour but will moisturise more.
  1. Send off for some skin and hair masks.
EL8888 · 21/03/2020 22:36

Making an effort is important at the moment and lm going to try to do more than the bare minimum for working from home. Not just do the newsreader approach I.e. dressed upper half and feral lower half
Try to improve my pedicure game
Drink lots of water
Sort through my clothes for a move (that may not actually happen)

FestivaMaxima · 21/03/2020 22:42

Well as it happens I started trying out both revitalash and revitabrow 10 days ago. Hoping that I will emerge with luscious lashes and full brows...

Russellbrandshair · 21/03/2020 22:48

Ooh @festivamaxima please do report back your results!

theculture · 22/03/2020 05:05

I am going to get my rough/tough feet summer ready!

Lots of creams and foot rasping!

diamondsandrose · 22/03/2020 09:31

Feral lower half Grin

Ok here's my goals

Hourly walk daily to tone legs
Jillian Michaels DVDs
Do weights ( anyone got good ideas for household stuff to use I.e what is 2kg etc?)
Water water water
Keep the treats for the kids , try and not idly snack
Use up beauty hoard , do pamper sessions
Plan summer wardrobe - expensive looking items only of course
Clear out existing clothes/makeup/shoes - anything not up to scratch

Being slim is normally one of the key commandments on look expensive threads and I'm losing weight marvelously due to empty shelves at supermarkets. A clean bum is also a must.

LuxuryWoman2020 · 22/03/2020 18:06

Lots of lovely sleep is on my list. My hair needed a cut but too late now.
I know there’s no chance of me doing yoga or exercise but I will have to have a daily walk for fresh air and a good dance everyday, it’s amazing how a good boogie lifts my mood.

I might see if I can order more loungewear
