Now that the Commonwealth event is nearly over, we have another treat ahead of us. Maxima in Indonesia!

In light of what happened on the previous thread, I'm going to take a leaf out of Elizabeth SMT Holmes' book and say critique the clothes and the styling but not the physical appearances of various royal women.

Throwback too Edward and Sophie's wedding, as well some of her more 90s outfits. I think it's fair to say she really only started to get into her style groove in her mid-40s.

Yes, I think Sophie lifted her game after Kate married in.

Tootreeticki · 25/03/2020 22:19

Mette Marit and Haakon are at Skaugum I think, which is in Asker, outside of Oslo. It's Haakon's childhood home but was modernized before they moved in. Downstairs is more formal, upstairs is an airy modern private apartment. Beautiful location. The King and Queen live at Bygdöya (sp?) and they are all in quarantine.

If Charles has sympthoms, is known to have met someone affected (Albert), is known to have met lots of people including the queen, it would have been completely immoral not to test him. This is not just ordinary celebrity privileges, it has potentially deep implications for the succession.

Tootreeticki · 25/03/2020 22:23

Re Sophie and fashion, I think she said in some interview that she wasn't all that interested in clothes but realised others were and has slowly adapted. Also as her children have grown up she has more time, I imagine, to be interested and to prioritise looking after herself. If you haven't grown up needing formal "looks", I imagine it would take a while to find your style. Especially if you're not all that interested to begin with.

queenofarles · 26/03/2020 08:37

Do we know if it’s Albert who passed the virus to Charles or is it someone else?
I totally understand why he got tested, he has been carrier for some time with mild symptoms. he could have infected many without knowing.

BlingLoving · 26/03/2020 08:51

No, he met a lot of people that last week or two. Hell, he could be the one who gave it to Albert.

Do we know kate and william are at amner because am feeling a bit concerned that I said they probably were and now we are all taking it as fact and we dont know that.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/03/2020 09:12

@BlingLoving According to a story in the Guardian, they're at Anmer, Charles is in Scotland and HM is at Windsor. Assume Edward and Sophie are still at Bagshot but not sure where Anne is. I guess she has a home in the country somewhere too.

Would Anne not be at Gatcombe?

LadyEloise · 26/03/2020 09:24

Anne is probably at Gatcombe.

BlingLoving · 26/03/2020 09:28

Aaah, thanks @QueenOfTheAndals Was slightly worried I'd been spreading rumours.

FiveTwoFaster · 26/03/2020 09:29

The Queen’s dress at Sophie and Edwards wedding! Blimey.

These came up of Fergie on my Instagram- among some other more flouncy bits and pieces. I love photos of royals from the 80s - it’s all blazing sunshine and cheery smiles and clothes that they really had fun with. These are quite toned down though.

The Queen was 73 approximately at Edward's wedding. She looked well. I never noticed before what she had worn at that wedding.

QueenOfTheAndals · 26/03/2020 10:04

Fergie's waist in that first photo! I don't understand why she got criticised for being overweight as she looks very slim in those pictures. I guess it was because she was constantly compared to Diana.

MangoFeverDream · 26/03/2020 10:06

They’re hugely privileged and there’s nothing I, nor anyone else can do about it

That’s where you’re wrong. We could do something about it, if we had the political will.

TSSDNCOP · 26/03/2020 10:18

FIve it’s what I think in my head when I’m reading a Jilly Cooper novel.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 26/03/2020 10:22

Sarah’s legs are seriously fake tanned in that last photo 😄 I think she suffered a lot being compared to the tall and willowy Diana. Diana who’d loved ballet and who was so photogenic. Sarah is much more visually enthusiastic and animated in her approach and unfortunately that resulted in some quirky and unflattering photos.

FiveTwoFaster · 26/03/2020 10:53

@TSSDNCOP EXACTLY!! That is exactly it! Jollity and glamour and hot dry summers, slight addictions to Sancerre etc.

LadyEloise · 26/03/2020 10:54

QueenoftheAndals "Fergie's waist...... I don't understand why she got criticised for being overweight as she looks very slim...."

I was thinking exactly the same.

paradyning · 26/03/2020 11:54

I quite like the first and third dresses in Fergie. Just shows how fashion comes around.
From the looks of it they were wearing court dress for E&S' wedding. Where you wear a long Dress and a hat. Like the dress code for Prinsjesdag in Holland.

AdaColeman · 26/03/2020 12:24

I love Fergie in her yellow polka dot suit, pure Sue-Ellen from Southfork! Wink Wink

SenecaFallsRedux · 26/03/2020 12:37

If memory serves, there were very few hats at Edward and Sophie's wedding by their request. The wedding was as late in the day as possible and they wanted a more evening attire vibe. But the Queen and Queen Mum did wear headgear.

Fergie wasn't invited to the wedding, and there was comment about their not having Beatrice and Eugenie as bridesmaids.

AngelaScandal · 26/03/2020 13:08

Wonder why that was Seneca?

SenecaFallsRedux · 26/03/2020 13:21

I think they really wanted a night time wedding with evening formal attire, which would mean no hats, but the law at the time in England was that weddings could not be performed after 6 pm. So they did the best they could, a sort of compromise. But the Queen and especially the Queen Mum were not going to enter a church bareheaded.
