Previous thread

What will tomorrow bring for Kate? Does her love for green know no end?

And Thursday night sees the return of Meghan! I know she can be polarising so let's stick to just discussing her clothes rather than the intricacies of Megxit. There's plenty of other threads to do that!

No no I do see how the belt-wearing thing can work Bling... for me it’s just fingernails-down-a-blackboard levels of aversion but I do see it’s mostly My Issue Wink

banivani · 05/03/2020 13:11

Oh ladies, I have to give you a laugh. I just had an email from the Irish Times advertising to-day's Gloss magazine (a monthly fashion glossy that comes free with the newspaper). The cover story is "How to Wear Green"

drina27 · 05/03/2020 13:13

They seem much more touchy geeky in those pics. Nice.

caperplips · 05/03/2020 13:13

I think in some way unintentionally patronising a country is almost worse!

drina27 · 05/03/2020 13:13

touchy feely

itswinetime · 05/03/2020 13:24

They have definitely been more touchy feely this trip.

I'm not sure if Kate is wearing green just because she is in Ireland. She wears a lot of green. Greens blues and reds seem to be her go to colours yes it feels like a lot of green over 3 days and maybe it's intentional or maybe like a lot of people she sticks with colours that she knows 🤷🏻‍♀️

mistermagpie · 05/03/2020 13:35

Even the coat is green! Not sure why I'm surprised really...

itswinetime · 05/03/2020 13:35

i found these in 5 mins she does wear a lot of green even when she isn't in Ireland.

The green coat is a rewear isn't it? I'm sure we've discussed the flaps around the busy area before 🙈

hopeishere · 05/03/2020 13:43

I like the dress but another colour would not have gone amiss!!

It would look better with trainers and a denim jacket but that's not her style so why would she do it?

NarniaBanarnia · 05/03/2020 13:45

Are her boots the usual elasticated-around-the-calf kind?

Can’t tell from pics.

If so I am setting up a shrine to pray to the Shoe Gods to enlighten her.

itswinetime · 05/03/2020 13:46

Yes the coat is a rewear.

I don't think a denim jacket at trainers would have been right for the occasion either! It would have felt to casual compared to what everyone else is wearing.

AudacityOfHope · 05/03/2020 13:46

The green is certainly because she's in Ireland. It's the same reason she decks herself out like a tin of shortbread when she comes to Scotland. I detest it! It's very patronising indeed.

justasking111 · 05/03/2020 13:47

Green again lol. whatever. Anyone clocking Williams old aged garb, I cannot call it middle aged. Shirt, tie, jumper, jacket. Come on William, your dad dresses better.

itswinetime · 05/03/2020 13:51

It's not much for fashion but it's also not green so

More bloody green AND a shamrock necklace/ earrings. 🙄

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/03/2020 13:54

William is the master of dad dressing - I can imagine him at KP every morning, sipping tea in his dressing gown and comfy slippers! Charles may never have had the looks the young William did but has always dressed impeccably.

I can’t get worked up about Kate’s literal dressing.

I am however chuckling away imagining other countries scenarios - for France I envision her in a black beret, onion necklace and a baguette purse. Grin

hon hon hon

QueenOfTheAndals · 05/03/2020 14:00

I will say though that Kate looks fab in green, especially forest green.

@NarniaBanarnia no I think they are her Ralph Lauren these ones

Royal style: the Duel of the Duchesses
QueenOfTheAndals · 05/03/2020 14:02

@7worfs The one time she visited Paris she wore a Chanel suit, which I think is a far better way to honour your host country! It was a gorgeous suit too but has never seen the light of day since.

IIRC in NZ she wore a black dress with a silver fern motif and let's not forget the time she visited Prince Edward Island and basically dressed as Anne of Green Gables! I don't recall her donning head to toe orange when she visited the Rijksmueum though...

FiveTwoFaster · 05/03/2020 14:05

I think her literal dressing is quite fun - I liked the red in Canada, her wearing national dress in Pakistan, head to toe Chanel in Paris etc - the Queen seems to wear green in Ireland too. And Meghan did - it’s just a nod to the country they’re visiting. That maple leaf brooch for example; excellent!

She’s not hugely fashion forward anyway though I think she looks perfectly nice most of the time so she might as well do something with her clothes.

beanaseireann · 05/03/2020 14:05

Annasgirl and Banivani
I do like the Irish Times on Thursday with its property porn page and The Gloss.
As a supplement, The Gloss is quite high end in production.

caperplips · 05/03/2020 14:13

I think the literal dressing is hugely patronising and ill advised. I don't know a single Irish person in Ireland who would wear shamrock earrings!

If she want to 'just nod' to the country why doesn't she wear something designed by an eminent Irish designer not in green like she did with Chanel in Paris? It's just lazy and very cringy!

7Worfs · 05/03/2020 14:17

caper but country symbols are only ‘cool’ abroad.
For example Union Jack is one of the most utilised flags worldwide, yet in the U.K. it looks trashy to wear it, see Ginger Spice Wink
