Hi is anyone following this??? I've started last Saturday. I've read the older threads but couldnt find a recent one. I don't have instagram or Facebook so don't have anyone to chat to about it. It's definitely more work than I've ever done on my Hair but I've always been pretty lazy to be honest. My hair is only wavy but has potential. I'm due to get it cut ✂ in a couple of weeks because its been 9 months 😵. Must say i am getting good results for the first week. I washed as normal Saturday and added a hair mask. I sprayed on leave in conditioner after and used Tesco gel as my product. I made a spray bottle of water and leave in conditioner and have been using it to revive my hair daily plus a little humectant. I actually wore it down today and it looked good although a little crazy at the roots 😂 ill wash it either tomorrow or Saturday. I got a new product to try today also 🤞. Anyone want to join me???? I can't be the only one. It feels like there's so much information out there I'm almost a little overwhelming so it would be great to find a kindred spirit 💇

I follow CG with my son, who's only 9m at the moment, but his curls are lovely.

I tried once with mine just doing the co-wash but my hair just didn't feel clean at all. I really want to try again but I think I'm going to use a low-poo as I feel like I have too much product to not use shampoo.

I know CG now doesn't recommend low-poo but it worked for many years for some so it's obviously okay for some. Does anybody have a good low-poo to recommend?

My products otherwise are CG - Shockwave volume gel and tuff stuff gel.

On DS, I use Cantu for kids conditioner, wipe dry with a vest, then Cantu custard, and literally a pea-sized amount of my gel.

PickAChew · 27/02/2020 23:26

Cantu does a great lo-poo, or if you're feeling flush, shea moisture have a well liked range (check ou tk maxx) though I don't find they clean my hair well enough for every wash.

Myshitisreal · 28/02/2020 16:33

I have the cantu shampoo I got a little bit too excited and went and bought it yesterday 😂. I'm on day 6 today and my hair is interesting. I could wear it down but it feels heavy or greasy at the roots, I'm guessing that's product build up. I put my hair in twists on Tuesday (sprayed with conditioner water mix then twisted all my hair into sections) and put it on a pineapple 🍍. It seems to be remembering those twists and naturally staying in them. It's almost like it's dreading itself 😂. Im. Working a wedding tomorrow so want fresh hair for that, but for today I'm venturing out with a 🍍 in my hair spritzed a bit. Can't decide whether to try co wash tomorrow or use the sulphate free shampoo. I suppose I should really try it. I just can't imagine how or will get this build up of product off. I heard about 'twisting out ' your hair so will look into that. The day I washed it i tried to pin it up into ringlets (made with fingers rolled from the root down) but I couldnt secure them very well. Im not really rust dextrous. Finger Twisting I can do

@tokenginger your little boys hair 😍😍😍😍😍oh my days too cute. Loving all the tips. I need to investigate pixie drying, boucleme and clipping at the roots and dry cuts I've a lot to Learn.

I have just started cgm today as I was fed up with having really frizzy crazy hair. My hair is really dry so I had a big chop at the hairdressers to shoulder length. Today I washed out the silicone with a sulphate shampoo, Pantene. I washed thoroughly for two washes as the roots felt really greasy and then washed with herbal essences non silicone, nonsulphate coloured hair shampoo. I then used blueberry Alberto balsam non silicone conditioner and combed my hair with my fingers with loads of it. My hair was really knotted. I then squished to condish and rinsed most but not all out. While it was soaking wet I squished and prayed hands a load of Garnier Shea butter hair mask in and used this as my leave in. I then wrapped it in a t shirt and left it. I had to take this off 30 mins later for the school run and OMG soft curls and I didn’t use any gel as I didn’t have any.
It is now tied up in a pineapple using A curly approved hair and and i am amazed as I really didn’t realise my straggly mess was actually supposed to be curly. 😁
I have ordered some micro fibre towels, as I am co wash, cantu curl defining cream and Umberto Giannini scrunching jelly.
Looking forward to the results.
If I am in a hurry I think I will just use co wash with a leave in and tie it up.

Muminabun · 28/02/2020 16:55

Op your hair looks so similar to mine except yours looks a lot longer and thicker. Apparently the wavies can get away with the odd low poo or even sulphate shampoo for a clarify to get rid of build up.

Sorry me again, these are my before pictures I took yesterday. Will probably take some more in a week or so.

Myshitisreal · 28/02/2020 16:57

That's so exciting @muminabun to already be delighted with the results. How often do you normally wash your hair, I'm usually weekly or longer but that's mainly to preserve colour. To be Honest I think it's kept my Hair in pretty good condition. I have loads of tops so won't get a towel this moment. I kept seeing them in pound shops but they were polyester rather than microfiber (but would it actually say microfiber 🤔???) fibre? 😂

I bought an afro comb yesterday because I read its good for root volume, add that to my list of things to Google. I feel like I've learnt loads since Saturday so need to see if tomorrow goes well. My hair takes hours and hours to dry when it's up in ringlets to try curl, so I did have to finish it with the diffuser. I might do the twists tomorrow if I can get it to clump well after washing

Absolutely love it. It has transformed my hair from frizz to defined curls.

Muminabun · 28/02/2020 17:04

I normally wash my hair every other day as I am a stay at home mum so dog walking and cleaning etc means I pretty much sweat every day so I do need to wash it. The curly method is actually a very good colour preserver so I feel I can co wash with impunity as I also colour my hair. Apparently when colouring hair go ahead as usual but just don’t use the conditioner that comes with the box dye as it has silicone in it. I agree and I think it is a ball ache that hair has to be soaked and then takes ages to dry but I didn’t realise how dehydrated my hair was I think that’s why it is already bouncing a bit as I put so much conditioner on. I agree the whole method is so complex and I am getting a bit overwhelmed and I think it will take time to find your own routine and products that work.

Muminabun · 28/02/2020 17:06

I got the towels to be a bit more absorbent. I have a lot of hair that is soaking and full of product so the t shirt wasn’t really cutting it in terms of how wet my hair was.

Muminabun · 28/02/2020 17:07

@FuckingHateRats wow I have really similar hair to you. Your hair looks great. What do you use?.

Devlesko · 28/02/2020 17:11

I did this religiously, and so wanted it to work. Even went to Vicky Queen of Curls but it didn't work for me. Cancelled my second appointment with her.
I'm glad it works for some people.

FuckingHateRats · 28/02/2020 17:12

I cowash with Superdrug Cherry and Almond conditioner.

I leave in Garnier Ultimate Blends Almond Crush.

I use Wilko's cheap orange lid gel as a styling product, and Cantu curl activator when I am refreshing.

Once in. Blue moon I'll make up a mask with either of the above conditioner, olive oil and the Garnier food mask banana one. Leave it on all day if I can.

My routine is fairly basic and low maintenance :)

Muminabun · 28/02/2020 18:11

Thanks the results look amazing.

doadeer · 28/02/2020 18:17

I think this would be good for me I have decent waves - I'm Caucasian but my son is mixed heritage and has beautiful curls.

Can anyone explain how to get started?

What happens if there's a day you want to straighten or do a curl blow dry?

StormCiara · 28/02/2020 18:28

@TokenGinger awww he looks like a little lamb. Lovely.

I tried cg in the hope that my frizzy-wavy hair would prove secretly curly, but it isn’t. It is however in much better condition for ditching silicones and sulphates. And if I have time to let it dry in a wrap, it’s lovely and soft

Aria20 · 28/02/2020 19:07

My 2yo dd has really curly hair. I've started using just herbal essences zero sulphate/silicone etc conditioners to co wash her hair and they spray leave in conditioner. I just let her hair dry naturally. It looks so much better than it did when I was using shampoo!

The only problem is she won't let me put her hair up for naps or bedtime so her hair becomes a wild frizzy mess after she wakes up. I even bought a silk pillow case as heard that helps but it hasn't made much difference.

Oh my days, can't tell you how excited I am to have so many replies.
*
,*Going to proper read and catch up tomorrow as I'm post work and wired. It takes me way longer than it should to tag people and remember the full name etc 😂.
*
*Ummmm so tomorrow I'm gonna soak/rinse with water, apply cgf (curly girl friendly?) conditioner and Comb , rinse. I'm unsure if I should hair mask again 🤷‍♂️. And i don't really know how to Co wash, like do I scrub my scalp for 5 minutes??? Any simple advice????
*

  • Ill ummm make it go into clumps then put a little cantu on and maybe a little gel. I'm confused, if I introduce the cantu and this is my first Co wash, that's two variables so hard to know if it goes wrong, why?
  • After the plopping (frigging awful term), I'll uhhhhh twist the clumps I think then secure using some sort of headband 🤷‍♂️

*sorry too many questions, I'm melting my own head here
*
*Ps am I the only one who cringes at the phrase "squish to condish" 😂
*
*I met an old friend tonight who said my curls looked great. 6 days dirt, can't be bad. These asterixes better have made bloody paragraphs

@strongteadropofmilknosugar hope I got your name right. Could you help me understand why you use curl creme and gel. My head's swimming with all the products. Also lube.... 😂 I did read that online... Is it the same a using an oil to separate or smooth the curls out? . I was using cgf humectant, is that the same thing or is it greasier. 😕 Thanks so much.

I do modified CG as co-washing just doesn’t work for me, and use minimal product as my hair is quite fine although I’ve got a lot of it.

I wash with a very small amount of Palmers coconut shampoo, rinse and then follow with Garnier hair food which I rinse out. Then I squish Eco Gel into soaking wet hair until it starts to clump and keep squishing until it changes texture, then squeeze out the excess moisture and plop in a T-shirt. Styling products are Umberto Gianni gel, Aussie mousse or Boots Curl Creme. I find Cantu way too heavy for my hair. I either air dry or diffuse, depending if I have to be anywhere. I pineapple at night and refresh with either plain water or water with a bit of conditioner in a spray bottle. I’m low maintenance CG!

Myshitisreal · 03/03/2020 01:48

@muminabun how are you getting on with it. Have you been washing your hair every other day then??? Have the results improved???? i love your use of ballache 😂 i say it too

@fuckinghaterats your hair looks fabulous. Such a big improvement and I love that you have a low maintenance routine. I watch these videos online and it's product after product and I'n like 🤯🤯🤯 how long did it take you to find your way with it??

We don't have wilkos here so I've been using Tesco basic gel. Not used gel for years 😂 feels very retro

@devlesko that's a shame. How long did you try for??? In what way did it not work? Just trying to get a bit of understanding

@doadeer as far as I know you can blow-dry or straighten and there are techniques. Each person will follow the method to the degree they choose if that makes sense. I think the easiest way is to find a blogger on YouTube with similar hair, and follow their journey. I'm learning myself tbh, so much info. I will look you up or type you up a good basic guide tomorrow.

@stormciara amazing name by the way!! What was your experience of cgm??? I definitely feel I could be getting better results but I'm doing ok for just starting

@aria20 ohhhhhh🥰 how cute is she and her hair!!????? wee rascal not letting you silk wrap it. Can you make up a conditioner spritz and quick spray after she wakes up. Or maybe a tiny dab of oil??? Her hair so cute!!!

@gingersausage how did you learn co washing didn't wirk exactly??? I suspect it doesn't for me 🤔 which aussie mousse do you use? There are so many. Is the boots curl creme not heavy? I'm so confused by all the hair products tbh. Jelly, gel, creme, mousse, custard, and the rest. I'm trying to learn how to understand more. I think cantu may be too heavy for my hair too. I learnt it's because it has so many oils in it, it makes the hair heavy. I think because it's designed for afro hair it's designed to weigh it down and stretch it out a little. Bloody minefield. I thought because it was cgm friendly, it would be great but apparently not. I don't recall reading on the packaging the type of hair it's designed for so how are we to know??? Saying that, it might say and I just didnt read it 😵

@teacup34 are you going to give it a try??

@bobisbored you rascal with scissors 😂 if you post your location maybe someone can recommend (or pop a thread up??)

Does anyone know if a strong hold cgm gel for @motherone??? I'm using this although my hair Doesn't crunch so I don't think I'm using enough www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/301066064?sc_cmp=ppcGHS+-+Grocery+-+NewPX+%7C+Shopping+GSC+%7C+All+Products+%2B+Tesco+BrandNew:+Non-Food:+Health+%26+Beauty:+Health+%26+BeautyPRODUCT_GROUP301066064*&ds_rl=1116019&ds_rl=1116016&ds_rl=1116019&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIm4CqxpX95wIVw7TtCh1-ngWSEAQYASABEgLO-PD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

@lexiepuppy hope you're getting some good tips 😁😁

Im not doing so well. I co washed sat and used a tiny bit of cantu curl creme like 5p sized. My hair is stringy, the ends are lovely but the roots are gross and greasy since yesterday. I don't know whether to do a low poo wash. Life's too short for greasy hair. Although maybe its transition hair??? Halp! I'm not really due to wash it again until fri or Saturday and I've never had great roots after 1 day. Will, not since i stretched out my washes to 7 yo 10 days depending. As. Predicted, im unsure if the co wag is to blame or the cantu curl creme 🤷‍♂️

2 weeks until haircut day 💇😬😬😬

Hello I am loving my hair. It is not as curly as I want it to be but it is in much better condition than it was so so soft now and I was letting it blow in the wind in the park this morning on my dog walk a la the starring heroine in a Catherine Cookson story swishing dramatically in the wind 😂😂 I have tried the as I am co wash and it is really lovely. I am still not using gel and washing once every other day. The only thing I need to stop doing is during my hair in a towel. It is making it frizzy. Micro fibre towels arrive today and I do think that a lot of the cgm is up to you and what works for you but drying wet hair with a big rough towel is just a frizz creator.

Myshitisreal · 03/03/2020 12:32

@muminabun that's great. I would love to know if you notice a difference with the micro fibre towel. I may have to invest 😂. That's great you're getting such good results. I wonder if gel might just improve things that little bit more. I had boots curl creme in my hand yesterday but put it back. How lucky to get great results on natural hair. Are you using a hairdryer or just airdry??? Im going to have to rethink, i may wash and dry it overnight in twists. My hair takes so long to dry, and I don't want to develop a hairdryer dependency, especially after all these years of not using one. Im laughing at your park vision of swishy blowy hair. I had a moment like that once after a fabulous haircut, wasn't paying attention and gave myself a black eye walking into a lamppost 😂 scundered
