Hi is anyone following this??? I've started last Saturday. I've read the older threads but couldnt find a recent one. I don't have instagram or Facebook so don't have anyone to chat to about it. It's definitely more work than I've ever done on my Hair but I've always been pretty lazy to be honest. My hair is only wavy but has potential. I'm due to get it cut ✂ in a couple of weeks because its been 9 months 😵. Must say i am getting good results for the first week. I washed as normal Saturday and added a hair mask. I sprayed on leave in conditioner after and used Tesco gel as my product. I made a spray bottle of water and leave in conditioner and have been using it to revive my hair daily plus a little humectant. I actually wore it down today and it looked good although a little crazy at the roots 😂 ill wash it either tomorrow or Saturday. I got a new product to try today also 🤞. Anyone want to join me???? I can't be the only one. It feels like there's so much information out there I'm almost a little overwhelming so it would be great to find a kindred spirit 💇

Yes I do! For the last 2 years! Sometimes I love it, sometimes I wonder why the hell I started!

Myshitisreal · 27/02/2020 19:53

Yay a reply!!! I'd love to hear your thoughts. Do you not think the results are worth it. Why would you want to stop??? Does it become habit? I've never really used product on my hair so that part is strange. Ive never used a hair dryer for at least 15 years and i was too lazy to straighten so no heat damage. Tell me EVERYTHING 😂 I'd love to see pictures but that's personal choice of course

I tried a few weeks ago with middling results. I'm wavy too but didn't use sulfate free shampoo as I still have tonnes of my normal product.
Good points, my hair lasted up to 3 days and the wave/curl was OK. Bad points, I felt scruffy by day 3. I've gone back to just doing what I usually do for now.

IrishMamaMia · 27/02/2020 19:58

Maybe I'll go back when I've had a hair cut and have found some better products.

Myshitisreal · 27/02/2020 20:00

How long did you try for??? I hear your hair can go through a dodgy transition stage. Do you think you stuck it out long enough???

Which products were you struggling to find??? Northern Ireland here 👋

I do this with my curly daughters and it has been amazing. We now use a really cheap conditioner - Sainsburys own brand Apple conditioner as a co-wash and leave in. We also use Wilko own gel and the curls are so perfect 😍

NeverGuessWho · 27/02/2020 20:05

I’m in. Haven’t started yet, but want to. I have very thick, wavy/frizzy hair and a daughter with beautiful thick curly hair.
Following with interest.

EcoCustard · 27/02/2020 20:20

I have been curly girl for 2 years now. However 9 months post partum after my 4th child and my hair is the worst it has ever been and nothing seems to be improving. Been very curly all my life but it just feels rubbish and looks either dry or dull. Don't have much time which doesn't help. I have been using garner ultimate blends almond, or Superdrug fruity ones which used to work well before they changed. Cantu curl activator and either curl jelly/custard and or pantene mousse. I like Aussie mousse but can't seem to get hold of any recently. Might try the XHC strawberry one as has protein and an acv rinse. I did get a scalp massager which is lovely though, saves time and fingertips.

All my children follow the cgm and their hair is lovely, but all have different products as my 2 year old's hair does not like coconut at all and my 4 & 5 year old's hair looks lovely with it.
My hair has looked lovely following cgm but also looked really good prior to it though and was way less faff.

ElfrideSwancourt · 27/02/2020 20:26

My DD and I both follow and love Curly Girl.

We were using wilko own brand conditioner, but they discontinued it 😢so using sainsbury own one now which is OK but not as good.

I use Noughty products from superdrug and I think my DD is using Cantu.

We go to a Curly hairdresser - expensive but worth it as the cuts last really well.

It is really worth finding a hairdresser who can cut curls.

Myshitisreal · 27/02/2020 20:28

That's really good to know about sainsburys products. I think it would be very easy to get carried away and buy all round you. The garnier hair masks are 3.50 at the minute in boots and 2 for £7 in Tesco. They all smell delumptious. I got this one and the papaya one. It's what I've used to make a reviver spray using an old spray bottle. It can be used as a mask, a conditioner or a leave in

I might post a pic of my products if its helpful. I might post a pic of my hair if I can find my nerve 😂

There's an app called curlsbot I've been using to check compatibility. You paste the ingredients in

I definitely didn't stick it out long enough. I've had a baby in the past year too so my hair is still in that weird phase.
I'm interested in trying the Maui and L'Oréal no sulfate shampoo ranges. Curl creams don't work so well for my hair as weigh them down but found the aussie rules serum good.

Myshitisreal · 27/02/2020 20:39

I didn't know curly hairdressers existed. Does that mean it's someone trained as a curly specialist?? My hairdresser razor cuts my hair and is all into making in tendrilly and curly, only I never bothered until now. He's been my hairdresser for 27 years so I wouldn't change. He's so good ♥. So interested to hear experiences and stories and any good blog links or videos. I bought this today but am worried it will be too heavy. I guess a lot of it is trial and error. @ecocustard I'm sorry you've not been able to get your hair looking tip top. Hopefully you find a solution 🤗

@irishmamamia totally understandable not having enough time or energy to devote to it

Ive never heard of this method before I might give it a try. I used to have lovely curls everyone used to comment on it now my 3dds all have beautiful curls and my hair is a frizzy wavy mess 🙁

LoonyLunaLoo · 27/02/2020 20:53

I started about 2 weeks ago. I use Cantu co-wash and curl activator creme. It’s really for Afro hair but my hair is very dry so needs the extra moisture. So far I have a beachy wave which I really like. I’ve got DS (10) to do it too but he already had lovely ringlet curls that get a bit wild between washes.

I always thought I just had super frizzy candy floss hair but now it’s much more tamed with less effort as I used to straighten it.

Myshitisreal · 27/02/2020 20:55

Please feel free anyone to jump on the thread. Here's 3 photos
1 - clean, dry hair but a frigging mess 😂
2 - 5 days later after mask
3 - day 2 hair

I can't believe the difference in the first two pics. Oh bugger I think the pics aren't posting in the order I want. Kissy smilie is day2. I think it's obvious which is before 😂 😬🥺

I've been doing it for a year. Mine is very thick, coarse and stubborn and, it turns out, at the curler end of wavy, which explains why it's been such a battle, pre-CGM.

I'm mostly winning, though thanks to our fickle weather I still have a fair few Crystal Tipps days.

StrongTeaDropOfMilkNoSugar · 27/02/2020 21:23

I’m a year in. There’s been a lot of trial and error, but I’m finally getting there.

In summary, the tips that work for me:

  1. Use Boucleme hydrating cleanser and conditioner in the shower
  2. Style with Boucleme curl creme and gel (use a ‘praying hands’ method to Keep the clumps of curl together)
  3. use clips to give volume to my roots
  4. Dry with a Dyson and diffuser until gel sets to a cast.
  5. once dry, use lube and the ‘praying hands’ to break the cast from the gel. The lube is a game changer.
  6. put hair in a pineapple and silk wrap to sleep
  7. on non wash days, refresh with gel and wet hands then repeat steps 4 and 5.

I’ve had 2 dry curl cuts, and definitely worth it as they cut to your curl pattern.

Good luck!

bobisbored · 27/02/2020 21:25

I've been doing curly girl for 5 months. My hair is very thick and course. I'm struggling with it at the moment. It just looks crap all the time. It takes forever to dry and I can't be arsed to mess about with it. I'm so tempted to straighten it but I've hacked at the front with scissors a bit so I'm scared it will look awful straight too😳
I think I need a good cut but no idea where to get one.

motherone · 27/02/2020 21:38

I have curly hair and have been straightening it for approx 3 years non stop due to it going funny after having my baby. Got a big chop and had noticed that it had a bit of curl again. I read about the curly girl method however there is no way I can let my hair air dry as I just don't have the time. I also don't worry about sulphates and stuff. I would have used hairspray and mousse to do my hair and it had to be crispy or I wasn't comfortable with it lol. Now I wash it with whatever I have and use a conditioner I use a denman brush and flip my hair upside down and use cantu leave in conditioner and then curl sista gel and diffuse my hair then scrunch our the crunch and my hair has never looked better. I have to say though around my fringe/bangs it gos a bit mad so I think I will change it up a bit and try relaxing it down. I don't seem to have a problem with volume so just round the frame gos slightly weird but if j don't flip my head my curls don't form correctly. I am also thinking of changing my gel as the one I use isn't holding long enough so any suggestions for a strong hold that will lay at least two three days????

Teacup34 · 27/02/2020 21:50

Yes I'm reading with interest!! I would love my curls back!!

Thinkingaboutsummer2020 · 27/02/2020 21:59

@Myshitisreal love the colour of your hair! Looks fab, I haven’t got the time at the moment but may look into it when my children sleep more 😂

lexiepuppy · 27/02/2020 22:18

My hair has lost its curl due to over bleaching it. I am half heartedly doing the CGM and so I’ve jumped on the thread for inspiration!!Wink
