I’m not seeing much on my usual go to shops so Mint Velvet, Hush, Marks and John Lewis.

Looking for suggestions for other good online clothes shopping.

I don't understand why people reach certain ages and feel they have to dress a certain way and change what they wear. Everyone should wear what they want to and they feel good in.

Bagofoldbones · 24/02/2020 21:45

I’m early 40s Reiss is one of my favs along with others from above.

Wauden · 24/02/2020 21:47

Boden has too many very wacky 'look at me' patterns and colours for me and can't wear it for work.

ApplesAndCheese · 24/02/2020 21:57

Toast
Kin at John Lewis
Comptoir des Contonniers
Cos
Brora
M&S
TK Maxx and Ebay

Never pay full price for anything, ever Grin

ApplesAndCheese · 24/02/2020 22:04

Oh, and I have a Seasalt coat which is warm, waterproof and perfect for dog-walking or beach-strolling. It isn't chic, glamorous or particularly stylish but it looks decent enough paired with skinny jeans and wellies. The rest of their stuff is pretty frumpy though.

LuxuryWoman2020 · 25/02/2020 07:39

I buy from Sainsbury’s, bits from Baukjen after a couple of recommendations her, jewellery often from charity shops, I’ve found some real gems (excuse the pun) odd bits like socks and pyjamas from Primark and often find bits in Debenhams.

I see things I like in topshop but alas can’t fit into anything, Wallis often, H&M. Really not keen on seasalt or Boden.

I bought a plain cream top and a plain navy skirt. Then there's this...

Early 40s here and I wear -
Reiss
Jigsaw
Hobbs
H&M
Primark
Uniqlo
Karen Millen

I buy sale items, a fair bit via eBay (great if you know your size) and in TK Max (I recently bought a Reiss dress there for £20 that I saw on eBay for £60)

I have a simple style, I like an interesting cut, fabric or pattern but not all at once.

FreakStar · 25/02/2020 07:52

I did a Boden insiders survey last night where they asked me to look at some of their new styles and all of them were absolutely vile! There was a disgusting mustard coloured shift dress for summer with little fabric disks stitched on in lines which was just about knee length so it couldn't be less flattering!

gingersausage · 25/02/2020 09:29

@LilyJade yes I’m definitely on a budget, probably even more so than you. I’m late 40s and most of these shops are way out of my price range. I don’t buy many clothes but when I do I shop in Primark, Uniqlo sale, eBay and Hollister sale. I don’t really dress any differently from when I was in my 20s, apart from updated styles, and 95% of my wardrobe is black.

I am about to find myself the 'wrong' side of 49 soon, and I would say I'm quite conservative with the odd flounce; in addition to Hobbs, White Company (and White Stuff), a little Boden, Jaegar etc, I have recently bought:

Fenn Wright Manson coat
Helene @ Denim Trilogy jacket
Massimo Dutti shirt & a jumper
NYDJ and Levis jeans
Frank Lyman 'posh' jacket
Whistles Tshirt
Modern Rarity silk stuff

I get quite a bit of this from John Lewis as I live near a large shop. Also like Fenwicks online.

ApplesAndCheese · 25/02/2020 15:35

Oh, Modern Rarity, yes! I bought an absolute cracker of a dress from them recently. It's a one-shoulder thing so quite out of my usual comfort zone but I feel a million dollars in it.

MrsPMT · 25/02/2020 16:38

47 and like TKMaxx esp for jeans, Sainsburys or Tesco for basics, local boutiques for something special, have lovely jeans from Great Plains.

Next occasionally and H&M (but have to seriously ignore the sizing in H&M and just buy what fits Grin even if its a 16!). John Lewis sometimes if I have a bit more money.

Footwear like independant shops best that sell mainly european brands.

My style inspiration is Emmanuelle Alt.

Almahart · 25/02/2020 17:25

The H&M premium quality range is pretty good at the moment. The mom high ankle jeans are great

Coniferhedge · 25/02/2020 18:11

I’m 48, on a budget but enjoy the occasional splurge! I like to dress quite quirky though. Favourites include:
Primark
Collectif
Joanie Clothing
British Retro
& Other Stories
Forgotten Tribes
Lucy & Yak
I buy jeans from charity shops
I also like retro style slogan t-shirts which I usually buy from small independents on Etsy.

I also used to like Joe Browns but I feel the quality isn’t as good recently.
