Late 40s. Where do you shop

I’m not seeing much on my usual go to shops so Mint Velvet, Hush, Marks and John Lewis.

Looking for suggestions for other good online clothes shopping.

I'm 49 and on the high street I shop at Cos and Arket. Occasionally at &Other Stories or M&S (for basics such as cashmere sweaters).

But I prefer "off high street". Most of my clothes come from Palones (used to be online only but now also in Harvey Nicks), Nanushka and Raeburn. I also shop at the Burberry factory shop (I live nearby) and various sample sales that happen in my area. I got an amazing Christopher Kane blazer for £50 and some gorgeous Peter Pilotto trousers for £80 (down from £800!). I also buy online from Moda Operandi and Browns/Farfetch. Shoes are from Neous, Tracey Neuls, Rejina Pyo, Yuul Yie and Jimmy Choo (always in the sale!).

Purplecatshopaholic · 23/02/2020 19:47

Late 40s. Mostly shop online these days. Love urban outfitters, the Kooples, baukjen, Vivienne Westwood (would wear Her all the time if I could!), finery London. Just got an amazing coat from Corniche in Edinburgh. Generally still Marks for underwear and JL for cashmere, 7 for all Mankind for jeans. Not a fan of Hush, Mint Velvet or Boden, although many on here do love them.

Verite1 · 23/02/2020 19:49

Mid 40s. Baukjen, whistles, sezane, Reid’s, OUTNET, reformation (only in sale as massively overpriced)!

Verite1 · 23/02/2020 19:50

That’s Reiss not Reid’s!

LilyJade · 23/02/2020 19:50

Is anyone else here on a limited budget like me?

SalmonOfKnowledge · 23/02/2020 19:54

There are so many things i have done before.
Big hair slides are back. I had so many of those in the 90s. I am doing a straight leg jean that is a bit too short 🤣 inmvhi, but some of the flared cut off jeans would be so unflattering on 90% of women.

So having to interpret a fashion is going on for me right now.

Plan to buy some of those puffed /capped sleeves as i love them. Not the really exaggerated ones though.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/02/2020 19:55

Struggling to find much I like these days, in fabrics that aren't hideous.

I tend to wear:
Jeans - Levis (have also got a Seven For All Mankind pair, which I love)
T-shirts - Jigsaw, a few from Whistles
Jumpers - a mixture of John Lewis own, Boden, M&S
Jackets - All Saints for leather and Hush for cotton
Dresses - Boden and some of the nicer feeling ones from Fatface
Work clothes - Hobbs/Jigsaw/Boden
'Nice' dresses for going out - Vivienne westwood (would buy loads if I could afford them) and Whistles
A few bits from Cos, although a lot of their stuff doesn't work for me
A few bits from Next and Sainsburys (but only the nicer fabrics)

SalmonOfKnowledge · 23/02/2020 19:56

@BookMeOnTheSudExpress oh ha ha at auditioning for the wiggles 🤣🍷🍷

Seventyone72seventy3 · 23/02/2020 19:58

Comptoir des cotonniers

blue25 · 23/02/2020 19:59

Massimo Dutti
Whistles
Oliver Bonas
Hush

LadyMadderRose · 23/02/2020 20:20

I mainly shop online as I can never find anything I like in shops, and don’t have much time to traipse all over.

I like ganni, American vintage, sometimes plumo, toast, hush, and gap and Uniqlo for basics. Also second H&M online, especially the premium quality range and H&M studio. I avoid polyester though and anything logo-y. I have some lovely things from hush for example but I hate their polyester stuff and tops with inane slogans. (Wouldn’t mind interesting slogans but not “happy” “love” etc)

I also love an eBay trawl, and I’m into sewing so I make things too. I often see something £££ at toast or plumo then make my own version (as they are often quite simple shapes).

OxanaVorontsova · 23/02/2020 20:23

Whistles trousers, jackets
Warehouse dresses, tops
Cos tops
& other stories dresses
French connection tops

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 23/02/2020 20:25

Lily- I never buy anything full price unless it's white T shirts or pants!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/02/2020 20:26

Same - very rarely pay full price for anything.

Richlyfruited · 23/02/2020 20:29

Mid 40s and I buy almost everything from TK Maxx!

I have quite a simple boring, preppy style and also buy basics from Gap, Hush, White Stuff and Next. Can't be bothered with the fussiness of a lot of the Mint Velvet range - too many zips and layers although I have bought some of my most favourite 'evening out' clothes from there.

I really dislike buying clothes online (most things I buy end up being returned) and I just wish there was more choice on the high st.

OxanaVorontsova · 23/02/2020 20:30

Also Zara, Massimo Dutti, Mango
As others have said, always buy in the sale/discounted!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/02/2020 20:42

Mid 40s here.

Trousers - Cos
Dresses - Warehouse, Oliver Bonas, occasionally Zara
Jeans - Whistles or Levi’s
Knitwear - Other Stories, Whistles, Cos, classic bits like black polo necks, grey crew neck jumpers from M&S, I also have a few Bella Freud jumpers I gave bought in the NAP sale over the years
T-shirts, jersey tops - I really like Monki, but also tend to buy a few Whistles ones in sales
Cardigans - Arket

In summer I wear a lot of midi skirts, which I tend to get in Topshop, Monki, and Zara. I invest less in summer stuff because the weather here tends to be very changeable! I have a couple of really nice leather skirts (Jigsaw and Whistles) which I wear through winter with opaque tights.

Footwear-wise I wear trainers a lot, flat Chelsea boots, and DM Church boots. I work in a fairly creative role so don’t need to be formal for work.

Oly4 · 23/02/2020 20:53

Boden, Hobbs, White Company, Ted Baker

TheOrigBrave · 23/02/2020 20:54

Nearly 50.
Warehouse
Oasis
Next (jeans mostly)
M&S
Sainsbury's
Adidas (sporty!)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/02/2020 20:56

I've got fake leather skirts (long and short) from Oasis - really quite nice quality for the (very cheap) price.

justilou1 · 23/02/2020 21:07

I’m 47 and a shortarse. To further complicate things, I have moved back to Australia, and am not loving the clothing or the climate. 🥵 Thank God for snail mail!
Uniqlo’s IDLF 2020 range has some lovely winter pieces and their non-spandex jeans have been great for me also. (The shortarse bit)
Hush sales work well for me seasonally
Zara & H&M for basics
Cos
Whistles faux fur coat in sale - now too big 🥺
Would spend up in And Other Stories, Arket, Fat Face and White Stuff if I could. Probably best that I can’t!
I really, really miss wearing boots. Don’t get much opportunity where I live.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/02/2020 21:08

remus I had a fake leather Oasis mini-ish skirt before investing in a real one. I wanted to be absolutely sure I would wear one - it was a great skirt!

Blibbyblobby · 23/02/2020 21:09

Mid 40s, petite and a bit fat:

Work dresses from Boden and Jeetly Petite
Quarterly box from Stitchfix, which had included Warehouse (!), Joules and Oasis, though I wouldn't go in in person
Everything else is ad hoc from TK Maxx

Blibbyblobby · 23/02/2020 21:10

Oh, and jeans from M&S and Very.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/02/2020 21:14

Judy - That's exactly why I bought them. I've worn them so much and will definitely upgrade to real ones at some point. I expected them to fall to pieces really quickly, but they've been excellent.
