Grey hair boredom

So I have given up the dye and I love:

No roots
Some lovely white

I am bored though and it's still got some dark grey/brown wedges through it

I've done highlights and they always end up yellow or warm blonde

Silver shampoo or conditioner is a con or at best keeps it from going yellow

What can I do to stop giving him and chucking a box dye on it?

I like your pictures hands I'm just so far away from them

So, a very bad day today in terms of feeling ugly/frumpy. The length is awful unless ironed straight.

There is a whole world of temporary colour out there. Crazy color or Dimensions are not permanent and can be left on for a short while for a light effect or longer for an intense effect.
Mix it with conditioner if you want a more subtle look.

I’m growing out my grey too.. I’m about 8 months in and I want it to look wild and wavy. It looks best when I’m wearing some self tanning moisturiser (the Dove one is nice) to give me a bit of a glow, and a red lip gloss. Not worrying about roots and dye is so liberating. I’m 51, and it’s ok to look 51.

You all look fabulous. I currently have my hair highlighted that well known colour, Middle Aged Blonde. I have very curly hair and worry about looking like a Nan if I go grey.

SouthWestmom · 24/02/2020 07:06

Grin that is a very popular shade around here as well. Caramel hues?

I'm 41 and 5 months of no hair dye. I have found the key is more make up and making more of an effort with my hair - good blow dry, regular hair cuts and straightening. I also now routinely use eyeshadow and blusher. A bit of fake tan also looks amazing!
The demarcation line at the moment is the hardest and the different shades of grey.

MrsSchadenfreude · 24/02/2020 09:15

Noeuf - yes, to differentiate it from matt all one colour, which is Old Lady Blonde. (See also Old Lady Light Brown and Old Lady Orange.)

Puppylucky · 24/02/2020 19:58

It's just my opinion but I also think that grey hair looks better with movement and natural wave i.e.not straightened flat. I've more or less given up using my straighteners as I find my natural range

Puppylucky · 24/02/2020 20:03

Posted too soon!
Range =grey looks better with softer hair. But the beauty of this thread is seeing that everyone finds their own way to make grey hair work for them!

I'm considering going grey but am worried about looking like a female Alistair Darling with grey/white hair and black eyebrows...

ILikeyourHairyHands if I wasn't fan hurling over your pics anyway your last post is awesome! Completely agree, what is the bare bones of the value of youth? The onslaught of peels and fillers I see more often, and frequently in the younger demographic makes my heart sink. Where is raw beauty, not high maintenance or models league but just looking at a woman who has the confidence and calm to own it?

I dropped the hair dye 2 year ago but very unimpressed with the slow emergence of grey!

JoyceDivision · 24/02/2020 20:21

Fan girling not fan hurling 😂

SouthWestmom · 24/02/2020 20:55

Oooh puppy I love your hair

I've found this hair! And getting it tomorrow.....

It's currently too much like my mum, who still dyes hers so I look like her older sister. Especially when she gets her 'extras'

@Noeuf how did it go?

SouthWestmom · 02/03/2020 20:53

It's not the same but it is loads better - some of the yellow ends have gone and ds says I look like a sci fi heroine Grin
