I have this dress to wear to a wedding and I also have nude shoes like in the picture or should I get a gold pair??? Also...hair up or hair down?? I feel like hair up would be nicer but she pulls off hair down with it!

It's a lovely dress. I would wear coloured shoes and bag. Suggestion of navy is my favourite. However, to me it looks on the 'champagne' side of gold. Do you know what colour the bridesmaids are? If you don't care about comments being made, then wear it. But I think some people might raise an eyebrow. A couple of shades darker and it would be fine.

MoonlightMistletoe · 25/01/2020 21:03

I love the burgundy shoes they would look lovely with it !

Geometricprince · 25/01/2020 21:10

People on mn are so weird about what you can wear to a wedding! I can honestly say I didn't notice what anyone wore to my wedding beyond a 'don't you look lovely' kind of way, and I know that at least one wore a bridesmaid dress (she wasn't a bridesmaid!) do people really worry about this stuff?

OP I think nude would work or burgundy as a pp suggested would be lovely (just check that the groom isn't wearing a burgundy waistcoat in case anyone thinks you're trying to be the groom Hmm)

Mammyloveswine · 25/01/2020 21:13

It's a bit pale so I wouldn't personally...but I love the blue and gold shoes linked to!

If you feel good in it op then go for it and hope it doesn't look too pale in photos!

LittleLongDog · 25/01/2020 21:13

People on mn (including you) are actual real people out there living their lives. Including, for some, going to and being in weddings.

People on mn are just people!

Geometricprince · 25/01/2020 21:15

Of course they are but I've never seen it in real life and I'm not convinced that these people would be that bothered in real life. Why would you be?

Parttimers · 25/01/2020 21:15

The bridesmaids are wearing a forest green colour dress. It’s a cousins wedding that’s why I know the details! 🤣

Geo this is literally real life. Hello, I’m a real person. I’d 100% raise an eyebrow.

OP, as an aside, that colour dress would look so nice with forest green and you’ll look beautiful in the photos. (As long as the bride is ok with it! But as it’s your cousin I’m sure you can, or have already, easily check with her.)

Geometricprince · 25/01/2020 22:13

OK I get that but I've never met someone outside of mumsnet who would and I don't understand why you would.

Sadteacher1 · 26/01/2020 00:09

The dress is pale gold, and it’s lovely OP! Smile

I wouldn’t give a toss if someone wore that (even if it were ivory) to my wedding - some people place so much importance on such insignificant things. It doesn’t look anything like a bridal gown. The attention will be on the bride anyway. I’d be more annoyed if my guests were having a meltdown over someone else’s attire than what they were actually wearing.

I'm in Ireland too and it's a perfectly normal colour to wear to a wedding . The only time I'd think twice about wearing cream or white to a wedding is if it was a very small wedding or a second wedding where the bride was likely to not wear a full blown bridal gown

justasking111 · 26/01/2020 19:30

The colour is fine will be grand for dancing. I do think it looks like a honeymoon night negligee though, that you unwrap to reveal a sexy teddy. You may be disappointed in the quality so best get it ordered, try it on. view it from all angles. The model has no bum to speak of. It really will depend on how it hangs on you.

LimpidPools · 26/01/2020 19:44

I think people often fail to take into account that weddings vary depending on who's getting married and where.

Most of the weddings I go to are the marquee in fields type, so I wouldn't choose that dress because it could look a bit bride-y there. But I also wouldn't wear something made of structured satin or a pair of stilettos, so lots of you would think I was far too informal.

OP, you are confident in the dress and have been backed up by others who clearly know a bit about Irish weddings, so I believe you that it's fine!

If you have nude shoes already then I reckon they'll be good. Otherwise, I liked the burgundy suggestion. Also like forest green, but since that crossed with the news that the bridesmaids are wearing that, I might give it a swerve.

What's your colouring like?

TheReef · 26/01/2020 20:56

Lovely dress but not in that colour

Parttimers · 26/01/2020 21:03

Thanks all, yes I actually have the dress and I love it!! It’s more shimmery than in the pic. I’m going to get gold shoes and this clip to tie back a portion of my hair

OP you said in Ireland ppl go v formal to weddings. My brother’s is also in a castle in Ireland (but we are prods from NI and I’ve only ever been to one wedding there as all my friends and I escaped to the mainland). I’m now really worried that my purchase of a women’s tux in navy velvet with black satin trim worn with patent brogues is going to be totally the wrong thing.

I think your dress is lovely BTW (totally the opposite of anything I would choose but very glam - no idea about shoes though, sorry!)

theunknownknown · 26/01/2020 21:06

I think it is gorgeous.
Gold shoes
and the other poster who posted the dress from Warehouse, lovely as well

Parttimers · 26/01/2020 21:09

@SaintEyning I do find weddings here are a total dress up affair. Most ppl going to a wedding get their hair and make up done professionally! Not just the bridal party!! If the suit is your usual style then by all means I don’t see why not!! It sounds very cool!!

Oh shit, I’m so in trouble! I am arriving just an hour before the ceremony so will have to come straight from home at 6am to LHR in my outfit with my overnight bag - and I never do hair or wear make up... poor SIL, she’ll just have to crop me out of photos...

SaintEyning · 26/01/2020 21:15

Maybe you’re going to their wedding too so we’ll know each other by the outfits!

Parttimers · 26/01/2020 21:16

@SaintEyning maybe!!! I’m sure it will all work out and you will look great!!

SaintEyning · 26/01/2020 21:22

You too - I think gold shoes and the lovely hair clip will be beautiful! Enjoy it!

Buggedandconfused · 26/01/2020 21:27

It’s beautiful OP. Gold shoes will look amazing with it. Great choice 👍
