I have this dress to wear to a wedding and I also have nude shoes like in the picture or should I get a gold pair??? Also...hair up or hair down?? I feel like hair up would be nicer but she pulls off hair down with it!

Don't be daft OP - you seriously can't wear that dress to someone else's wedding!

poopiedoop · 25/01/2020 18:47

I know Irish weddings but it is a bit bridesmaidsy don't you think?

myrtleWilson · 25/01/2020 18:48

oh no OP - your typo is a bit unfortunate Grin

No belt, do you have shoes or are you needing to buy - if the latter I suppose nude would be more useful/recyclable.... A deep Burgundy could be a more left field suggestion don't forget your bouquet Wink

yogo · 25/01/2020 18:48

Are you joking? If not you must love attention, that's not suitable if you're not part of the bridal party

Apileofballyhoo · 25/01/2020 18:52

I think it's grand as in it won't look too bridal. Irish brides tend to really stand out in very formal structured wedding dresses with fitted bodices.

I'm no use about the shoes OP.

LiveatCityHall · 25/01/2020 18:54

Personally I love it. I'm not getting a bridal feel from it at all but then I wear black to weddings which is very unmumsnetty 😂
I would wear nude shoes with it and hair down. I think it looks gorgeous!

Parttimers · 25/01/2020 18:56

Yeah I think I’ll do the nude, they are a bit less dressy I suppose and hair down...thanks to those who are not old fashioned wedding etiquette sticklers!! Confused

I’m in Ireland too...that’s perfect OP. Go for the gold shoes and your hair down.
Enjoy the wedding!

wedding33 · 25/01/2020 18:57

OP you don't mind me jumping in on your thread but the answers have worried me !
Is this dress completely unsuitable for a wedding guest ?

Looks guestlike to me. Waay too many buttons to be bridemaidy. Gold or navy I think, accessories wise. Saw these shoes/sandals. Would you consider a fascinator?? Saw some beautiful ones on etsy in navy and gold that would look great with that dress.

Those navy shoes I put on are maybe a bit too cobalt, but that style?

emilybrontescorsett · 25/01/2020 19:09

Well in my line of work I've seen lots of brides and I have never seen a bride where a dress like that.
I think it's totally fine op. If go with nude shoes.

LittleLongDog · 25/01/2020 19:14

I really don’t think the wearing white or black rule applies anymore!!

I’m quite young. The weddings I’ve been to recently have been younger people getting married. At all of those weddings the ‘guests don’t wear white to a wedding’ rule certainly applied.

There are hundreds of colours to wear. Why white? (Or something that will look white in photos.)

That being said, it’s a beautiful dress (apart from the fact that it looks slightly like a dressing gown) and I vote blue heels.

Parttimers · 25/01/2020 19:16

@LittleLongDog it’s not white it’s gold...

OP posts:
LittleLongDog · 25/01/2020 19:23

I hear you @parttimers

But... it looks pretty white in the photos you’ve posted. (I’m sorry if you can’t see it, but plenty of pp can.) And there will be photos at the wedding. And in the wedding photos you will be there in your looking-white-in-photos dress along with the bride.

I like the dress, I do, but would I wear it to a wedding? Probably not.

nearly40andfat · 25/01/2020 19:24

I don't think it's particularly bridal but think blue shoes might be a mistake, I'm thinking of the "something blue" thing, I've seen a few brides wear blue shoes.

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 25/01/2020 19:30

I think burgundy is a good shout. Something like this possibly

Thanks @Parttimers (although noticed that no one else has said that it's ok BlushConfused)

mumcop · 25/01/2020 20:31

It's not only a shit colour for a wedding it's a shit dress. Looks like a dressing gown!

Parttimers · 25/01/2020 20:39

@mumcop you sound lovely 😊

RidgedPerfection · 25/01/2020 20:43

I like it; nude shoes would be nice and burgundy is also a good shout.

Mummyshark2018 · 25/01/2020 20:49

I think it's lovely and not typically bridal. I wore something similar only sleeveless to my db's wedding when I was heavily pregnant. Accessorised it with colourful shoes and hairpieces. Didn't look like any bride I've ever seen!
