Hello having heard lots of great things I have got one of these in the sales in the hope of being free of shaving this summer. Anyone want to share experiences/ tips? Going to pick it up on Wednesday....

Me! I've had one for ages, but have always been pregnant or breastfeeding so never used it.
I hear good things - my mum swears by hers.

I'm going to take the plunge this week and stop waxing and start shaving and give it a go, planning to do weekly rather than fortnightly. Would be interested to hear people's thoughts on frequency, and also, whether you do it immediately after a shave or another time?

KatoPotato · 18/01/2020 20:21

Joining! I got mine for Christmas and still not used it!!!

CrumpetandSausage · 18/01/2020 20:27

I’ve used mine twice now since Christmas. I think there’s less hair but can’t quite tell. Definitely less ingrown hairs. I’m interested to hear from anyone who uses it more frequently than every two weeks. The instructions state there are no benefits to doing more frequently...

Youneverknowwhatyourgonnaget · 18/01/2020 20:29

seriously hands down the best thing I have ever bought! I just can’t believe I didn’t buy one sooner. It cost me £300 in the sale and if mine broke tomorrow I would happily pay the full price. My whole life my hair has been a massive pain to me and as a teen I wouldn’t wear short sleeves because of my arms and if I shaved my legs in the morning they would be full stubble in the afternoon. I recently went away for 2 weeks without shaving once!

BrieAndChilli · 18/01/2020 20:31

I’ve got one but haven’t really used it.
I know the instructions but do most people

Shave the area
Use the Lumea

And then that’s it? What happened to the ‘stubble’ does it fall out, do you need to pluck it out or does it just grow? Just worried about having a stubbly face!

Ninkanink · 18/01/2020 20:40

Yep I’ve done two treatments so far and I’m loving it. I’ve noticed a definite decrease in hairs growing back, maybe 25-30% less? I’m hopeful that I’ll have it down to 50% after the next treatment.

I shave one day and use the lumea straightaway for lip, underarm and leg, but I wait til the next to do my bikini line etc to make sure there’s no irritation.

I've had one since the autumn. You need to read the manual fully- it has lots of limitations and conditions. Doesn't work well for certain skin/ hair colours. Don't use if got certain health conditions. Don't use before or after sunbathing. Yes shave area before treating. Don't use moisturiser before treating etc etc.
Cant be used on underarms if you use long- lasting antiperspirants.......
I didn't need it for face or arms ( oh- you can't use it on certain areas of face- eyes and above I think); was disappointed to learn after purchase that I couldn't use it on my underarms. It's working quite well on the legs but i think i must miss patches out occasionally. It has been fabulous and worth it for bikini line alone- I'm a frequent swimmer.
There is no benefit to using it more frequently than it suggests. It's all to do with stopping the hairs' growth cycle and more frequent zapping doesn't help that.

GryffinDora · 18/01/2020 20:44

But it's so small! How do you do large areas? Just commit to the time? Or am I doing it wrong! Mine's quite old to be fair but if I did my legs or bikini line I'd be there for hours! I use it for my chin

ChachyFace · 18/01/2020 20:47

yeah- it's quite time consuming on the legs. You can hold the button down continually and slowly move the device from spit to spot in order to speed things a little. I only ever do below the knee. Each legs takes about 10 mins- and about 5 mins for bikini line.

Ninkanink · 18/01/2020 20:50

It’s really not that bad. Maybe ten min per leg? I only do below my knees though.

I slide and click.

CountryCob · 18/01/2020 20:53

Hello everyone! Going to be nice to have some company, I am also concerned about the time commitment, @ChachyFace is it that you can’t use the device whilst using long lasting deodorant or is it a future ban on long lasting deodorant? I have recently bought the deodorant you get in little box following a tip on these pages.....

OP posts:
ChachyFace · 18/01/2020 21:04

I think the skin has to be completely clean and dry before you use the device- so no moisturiser, deodorant, product or water etc on the skin before you start. The light pulse might heat up any lotion or potion, I guess, and it could burn???
I use Driclor- an antiperspirant you only need to use once or twice a week. It must stay in your pores/follicles. The way I read the instructions is that you would have to completely stop using that long lasting type of product if you want to use the Lumea on your underarms.... Have a thorough read of the manual.

joggingon · 18/01/2020 21:10

I've been using it on my bikini area for a while. Hardly have to use it at all now. Probably been doing it for around a year.

Popc0rn · 18/01/2020 21:21

I've had mine for 2 years, I love it :).

Be warned that the first time you use it you may be surprised at how bright the flash is Grin, it's not such a shock if you use it in a well lit room, though my friend wears sunglasses when she uses hers Grin.

I'd set a reminder on your phone for when you need to do it, the toughest thing I found was actually remembering to use it. It takes me about 15 minutes to do each lower leg, five minutes to do bikini (I do a 'Hollywood' pretty much), and 2 minutes to do armpits. So I tend to do legs on one night (and stick something on Netflix while I'm doing it), and do bikini and armpits on another day.

It can get hot if it's been on for a while, which can make it feel uncomfortable verging on painful (for me at least). I find armpits the most sensitive area, so I do them first, then bikini. The backs of my legs are also quite sensitive if it gets hot, so I start there do one leg, then leave it to cool down before I do the other one.

If you use it while it's plugged in to do your legs it's much quicker as you can "slide and flash" - keep your finger on the button and slowly slide it up your leg.

Keep at it, I got results with my legs and arm pits after using it for the first four treatments (fortnight apart), but my bikini area was stubborn and I had to use it for six treatments before I saw real results.

CountryCob · 18/01/2020 21:38

Thanks for all the tips, just downloaded the app to help me keep track looking forward to picking mine up now!

OP posts:
ChachyFace · 18/01/2020 22:39

That reminds me- you have to charge it every now and then, even if you don't use it. Otherwise the battery can just stop working altogether.

SagelyNodding · 18/01/2020 22:47

I'm à relatively new user... Bought mine in the Black Friday sales, do I'm 3 treatments in and I love my Lumea! Super results on legs and bikini line.... Less so on armpits. I live in a hot touristy country and spend my summers in swimwear. As a fair skinned dark haired girl, my bikini line was a nightmare. This year I'm confident that I will be pube free and shaving rash free 😊 The app was shite though.

CountryCob · 23/01/2020 20:46

Just about to make a start tonight! The prospect of the time it will take is not appealing but telling myself it will be worth it in the end!

It seems like impossible witchcraft but it works. I shave every 4 weeks now!

Ronia · 24/01/2020 19:02

My DH got me one for Christmas knowing how much I wanted one but was intimidated by price (he recently got a promotion and payrise).

I've done 2 underarm treatments and definitely see a difference. Going to start legs this weekend. Had been all set to start legs last weekend but then remembered I'd used an AHA body serum during the week so had to wait.

I want to do upper lip too but a bit intimidated. I do have dark hair there and have never done anything with top lip. I suppose I'm scared of regrowth. Maybe this is the solution though! I've very dark, almost black hair, and very pale skin so should work!

NotTheLangCleg · 24/01/2020 19:06

I got one as a gift from my sister who adores hers but the instructions say not to use it if you’re on blood thinners, which I am. A tiny dose, though. Anyone know why?

Ninkanink · 24/01/2020 19:08

Regrowth has not been an issue for me at all - it won’t stimulate further hair so it doesn’t grow darker/thicker and it is killing off some of the hairs each time, so you get a cumulative effect.

My regrowth in intimate area has come back much softer with none of the ‘spikiness’ I get after shaving.

I do my top lip (which isn’t very dark, to be fair) and it’s a matter of a minute or two and that’s it. Hair there is already decreasing after two treatments and there is no need to feel intimidated.

It seems like such a faff when you read the instructions but it really isn’t, IME. I’m looking forward to doing mine tomorrow.
