Hello having heard lots of great things I have got one of these in the sales in the hope of being free of shaving this summer. Anyone want to share experiences/ tips? Going to pick it up on Wednesday....

@gillyweed the manual states not to use it on freckles or moles. My arms are incredibly freckled, with lots of moles so I am not doing my arms (although personally I am not bothered about my arm hair) but I have been using it on my legs, which have a few sparse freckles and a couple of moles. I find it sometimes stings a bit on them. I have heard of people using a white kohl pencil to cover moles, but that is only going to work if it is one or two I think. I haven't tried this myself though.

I have done my second session now. I think I am noticing a decrease. DH said he thought so too earlier. I am really hoping to see meaningful results before the end of summer.

EdinaMonsoon · 24/06/2020 07:56

How’s everyone getting on with their treatments? Did my 4th treatment last night. In the intervening 2 weeks I only shaved 3 times (including pre-treatment prep shave yesterday) so definitely working for me.

Need to re-read the manual for info on treatment schedule going forward but, for those of you with long term experience, when did you decide to start leaving longer between treatments? I’m worried about undoing all this work by moving to the next stage too early!

Grasspigeons · 24/06/2020 08:00

Its been amazing on my legs. No impact on my underarms. Helped with lip hair and bikini area.

dgirluk · 24/06/2020 08:28

I'm 3 treatments in - legs are waaayyyy better, less progress on underarms and bikini but there is a difference, it's just taking longer. I'm not using the Lumea I got the Braun, but it's the same thing just mains powered. Suffer from shaving rash and ingrown hairs on the bikini line so looking forward to not having that, this summer!

EdinaMonsoon · 24/06/2020 12:22

My underarms aren’t responding as quickly as my legs. Different type of hair texture etc maybe?

Anyway, pleased to hear you’re getting results. @dgirluk why did you choose the Braun? Interested in case this lumea ever gives up on me!

dgirluk · 24/06/2020 12:55

@EdinaMonsoon - Ummm trying to think now! I think it was probably price on whatever offer was running at the time, and figuring that Braun and Philips are both decent brand names. You plug it in which is no chore at all - it has a really long cable and you don't have to remember to charge it up. It has 2 heads - one bigger one for legs etc. which flashes fairly quickly, and a smaller precision head which flashes a bit slower. It was this one: Braun IPL Silk Expert Pro 5 PL5137 Generation IPL.

Also has a nice bag to put all the bits in, but that's not really a deciding factor !

It's having an impact on bikini line although I'm more tentative there. Underarms are annoying but I'll persevere - otherwise I'm shaving every day or 2. I wonder if the hair is lighter there perhaps?

Marahute · 24/06/2020 21:52

Ooh, so something is definitely happening here after my second treatment. Today I discovered that I definitely have some "dead hairs that are purging. I have been able to pull a fair few out with just my fingertips and they come away so easily and no pain. Some are definitely still anchored and won't pull out, but a lot are apparently dead and come away so easily. This is across all areas I am treating (legs, underarms and bikini line). I am finding this hugely encouraging and a bit more convinced that this is legitimate now! Grin

CountryCob · 25/06/2020 07:06

I have the same outcome - underarm hairs slow to go, I wondered if it was a lot of epilation on my part but looks like it is a theme. Have been going since the start of the thread but during lock down less as have less free time with domestic responsibilities, so missed a few but am keeping on going. I have the Luminare app for scheduling - it’s ok and helps me keep a record, imagine you could use it with the Braun. Bikini line is the biggest improvement for me - it is about 2/3 done and even with regrowth you can see a different main bikini line if that makes sense. Legs also better. Was hoping to be pretty much hair free by now but am overall happy and carrying on trying with it

I’ve been using this and I think today will be my fourth treatment. Though I didn’t realise there was an app so I’ve just downloaded it after reading this thread.
So far I do my legs and under arms one day and a few days later my bikini line and facial hair although there isn’t much left to zap on my face already !
Like a PP I am wondering about my arms next but worried about moles. Also wondering if it will be getting less effective since I’m quite tanned now compared to when I started .

Bigbrowproblems · 26/06/2020 01:42

Just checking in to say I've literally just done my legs and underarms.

As well as one arm to compare! Hahah

Knobhead did catch the corner of a tattoo though. That stings a bit but isn't too bad and isn't showing any signs of a blister. Fingers crossed!

nannyplumsmagranny · 26/06/2020 09:38

I did my legs and underarms the other day, I have to shave daily as my hair grows quite quickly. Full leg took around 10 minutes each, underarms took minutes.

I haven't done my bikini line yet as shaving causes really bad ingrown hairs on me but I would love to do it.

Can you use it on your whole bikini line? Flaps?

Marahute · 26/06/2020 13:14

@nannyplumsmagranny I asked about flaps too. I think you can use it on any normal skin, so outer flaps, yes but any inner bits are a no... I think doing the border of where the hair ends on edge of the outer flap would be tricky. I have decided for just going with a tidy up in the bikini zone for now. Although I do like the idea of completely clearing my undercarriage.

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 26/06/2020 16:23

me! I have used it about 8 times now and it has worked absolute miracles on my legs. I am a yeti - a pale skinned, dark body haired yeti - and my legs are now fine for over a week. Previously I would shave in the morning and need to do it again in the evening if going out. The device is a leg miracle.

However.... on hormonal hair it is not being so successful. My beard and tash are unchanged, as are my armpits. I have only give my bikini line 2 goes so can't tell yet. However, the leg thing is a game changer for me :-)

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 26/06/2020 16:26

I’m Mediterranean in colouring - tan skin, dark hair. I bought another brand but same thing. Did my armpits and legs about 6 or 7 times about 5 years ago and haven’t shaved since!! Shock

Also did my face which was life changing, gave me so much confidence not having to worry about whether my tache needed plucking or my rogue chin hairs had appeared overnight!

There’s a tiny patch I obviously missed on one leg that still grows and I keep forgetting to sort it out Grin but otherwise hair free.

It’s a bloody miracle I tell you!

pearlypidge · 26/06/2020 16:32

I'm following this thread with much interest.

A few weeks ago I realised that even when it was really warm and sunny, I would still end up wearing jeans and not summer dresses etc as my legs were hairy (I cba to shave very often!)

So I figured that an investment in a lumea could be the way to go.

I've just done my first legs treatment, and am keeping fingers crossed that it works well and works quickly!

espressodrinker · 26/06/2020 16:35

I'm following too! X

aceofbase1 · 26/06/2020 17:26

I got my Lumea in January and sued it 4 times had great results and then lockdown happened and I didn't keep it up Sad so basically everything grew back to square one SadSad so I started again and I'm up to my 4th treatment and I'm getting over a week before regrowth. So for me I think it's going take a lot more than the suggested 4/5 treatments before I see sustained results (I won't be stopping again tho!)

bendmeoverbackwards · 26/06/2020 17:59

Newbie here too.

Me and my 3 dds are all using it! Oldest dd says leg hair is growing more sparsely. My underarms are hardly growing any hair at all already!

How important is the timing between sessions?

nannyplumsmagranny · 26/06/2020 20:39

@Marahute thanks for the info. If I can tame the edges then that will be much better and much more manageable because I can trim the rest.

PartyCat · 26/06/2020 21:00

Me too, just finished 5th go - it's a bloody miracle worker - legs, bikini, under-arms, chin. OMG why did I waste half my life waxing/shaving, paranoid about my face/chin.

aceofbase1 · 26/06/2020 21:36

I've also noticed that when I do shave I don't get a shaving rash or any irritation like I used to prior to lumea. I don't understand why or how but I'm loving it because my legs were so sensitive! I go wing hairs have stopped too!

aceofbase1 · 26/06/2020 21:36

That should have said ingrown HmmSmile

RandomMess · 26/06/2020 21:41

😭 bought it for my DDs alas my hair is to ginger and it doesn't seem to work on me at all.

JanewaysBun · 26/06/2020 21:46

I love mine so much!
I've been doing my legs since January and have started doing it every week. Massive massive reduction.

I've already had my underarm lasered so won't do that.

Bikini I've got most if it lasered already so am just doing under the thong line. I'm doing right up to where the outer vulva meets the inside but I think that's ok as it does say you can do a Hollywood.

FartnissEverbeans · 26/06/2020 22:03

Can anyone tell me how dark your hair has to be to use this effectively?

I’ve got mainly blonde body hair but my (ahem) bikini area and underarms are darker.
