To ask for your advice on buying a cheap wedding dress! £100 max

Planning on a registry office wedding, no fuss but would like a nice dress.

Nothing ott, not white, not too much lace, long though but most importantly cheap! £100 max really!

Any successful purchases by Mnetters? Where did you buy? Any advice gratefully received Grin

Quiz also has reasonable priced bridal wear

SweetMarmalade · 28/01/2020 18:12

Thanks everyone.

I’m still looking. I’m going dress ‘blind’ Crown Hmm

Keep looking at these full skirts and thinking my size 12 frame is going to look massive! The more clingy dresses fill me with dread so I’m left thinking of the more boho whimsical look but can’t find anything.

Anyone ever chose a completely different colour? I’d love to wear something dark. I’m not a fan of pale dresses haha! I’m doing my own head in now!!

But I’m still on the hunt for champagne or gold or something not white!

SweetMarmalade · 28/01/2020 18:13

Are Quiz sizes really tiny?

OP posts:
7ardmore · 29/01/2020 14:09

I found them true to size although I’m very petite so hard to give a true opinion on sizing when I just go for the petite range. Well would have been petite enough before pregnancy (lol seems like a lifetime ago😂)

You can always return them if they are to small/to big.

thenorthernluce · 29/01/2020 21:12

My ASOS dress was £70 and beautifully simple. I did size up then had a local seamstress take it in for a perfect fit (£50), but I have a very odd shaped body, so if you’re a slim hourglass or similar, you should be okay with off the peg!

thenorthernluce · 29/01/2020 21:19

I can’t find a suitably anonymous photo, and it was nearly four years ago, but it was similar in colour and style to this one: ASOS dress

SweetMarmalade · 30/01/2020 06:35

I quite like something in all of the dresses you’ve linked to but not quite what I’m looking for.

The more I look at some of the cheaper wedding dresses the more I just see a nighty Crown Grin especially anything white.

@thenorthernluce I quite like that style, although far too plunging neckline for me.

@Monstamio I’m thinking along those lines now, i’ve seen a lovely strappy dress on eBay and the seller has teamed it with a sparkly cape, actually looks quite nice. So that could be another option as I wouldn’t want too much flesh on show.

SweetMarmalade · 30/01/2020 06:39

@hellsbells99 I quite like the colour of dress 2 but too much sparkle.

Thanks everyone for searching with me. I really thought this would be quite easy but I’m struggling to find just the right dress, in my budget, not ott and the right colour. If money was no object it would be easier!

I’ll keep on searching Crown Grin

TK Maxx is worth a look, they always have ballgowns. Also if theres a shop near you that sells dance dresses, the ballroom dancing dresses can sometimes work. My wedding dress was in the Debenhams sale and the only fitting it needed was to be taken up which cost £20.

Ninkanink · 30/01/2020 11:43

I’m getting married next month, very small registry wedding, and I’m wearing this dress from Hobbs. Bridal shoes, headband and birdcage veil.

To ask for your advice on buying a cheap wedding dress! £100 max
Sooverthemill · 30/01/2020 14:21

@Ninkanink that looks lovely. Congratulations.

@SweetMarmalade have you looked at Ghost? Their sale is still on and they have some lovely dresses that are not white and not lacy ( they do have a bridal section but the ordinary ones are fab) here? Hoping my DD might choose one!

Ninkanink · 30/01/2020 15:32

@Sooverthemill thank you! I forgot one small detail though: I have some slimming to do to fit into it as I bought it a couple of years ago when i was smaller! Strictly lowcarbing atm and crossing my fingers that I’ll fit into it, otherwise I shall be buying a last minute replacement! 🤞

Jaxhog · 30/01/2020 15:48

Hire a nice dress. I did. Why spend buying a dress you won't wear again?

BillieEilish · 30/01/2020 15:54

I suggested it to you before on another thread OP
Please do look at Ghost sale (as PP also mentioned) also consider the bridesmaids dresses, just as beautiful.

The cut and colour are amazing.

SweetMarmalade · 30/01/2020 17:18

Thank you all for your suggestions, I’ve looked on the Ghost website and there are some stunning dresses.

@Whattheother2catsprefer love the colour but a bit too sparkly, although I’m not sure?

@Ninkanink I love your dress, so classy! I’ve seen a lovely navy dress and almost went for it! Many congratulations for your wedding next month Flowers

In the meantime I’ve slightly gone off kilter and ordered this from monsoon? Crown Confused just going to give it a try, it’s ivory, reduced dramatically and my Mum talked me into it, just to have a look Crown Hmm I’m not sure but I’ll report back. It’s not the bohemian look I had in mind but I quite like it. I’ve gone dress blind, I really have!

Would need a cape or similar to go with this and I’m not 100% in the sparkles or the colour yet so we shall see.

@Jaxhog I’m going to head off to a couple of shops that hire at the weekend, just to see and to try on. Might fall in love with something Crown Grin

LilyJade · 30/01/2020 17:31

Like the Monsoon dress... there's always a couple in the local store that I'd want to wear if I ever got married...

hellsbells99 · 30/01/2020 19:50

This one is slightly over budget but lovely

Ninkanink · 31/01/2020 16:12

@SweetMarmalade Thank you, and to you on yours! Flowers

I think the one you’ve tentatively gone for is gorgeous, and eBay is pretty good for bridal cape/shrugs (Monsoon did a beautiful one a couple of years ago that you might find pre loved for not much money by now, or maybe you could hire the cape instead of the dress!).

FraterculaArctica · 31/01/2020 16:16

You're not interested in dark red raw silk are you? I have one (I think Monsoon) I bought as a backup wedding dress, I loved it but went for something more conventional in the end... Happy to sell it!

Ninkanink · 31/01/2020 16:18

Ohhhh that sounds fabulous!
