Royal style: forget all your stresses as we talk royal dresses

Previous thread

Now. A request. Can we please keep this to critiquing the clothes rather than the wearer?

So if you want to talk about what Meghan's wearing then fine, go ahead. I'm not even saying you have to like everything she wears. This applies to all royal women - if you don't like an outfit then do feel free to say so.

But if you want to talk about "Megxit" then please go to one of the many many other MN threads about it and leave us to our clothes chatter!

Look at her waist!!

Oops sorry Queen.

Wetdogloveshubert · 11/01/2020 21:28

I really dislike the huge tiaras; they're too tall for my liking. I dislike the Grenville in particular as it's such a presence - it takes too much attention away from the wearer. Melissa Percy was badly styled! She looked beautiful otherwise.

Rhubarbisevil · 11/01/2020 21:28

Poor Harry. I do feel sorry for him.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/01/2020 21:29

They look utterly thrilled by their good fortune don't they @Wetdogloveshubert?

Is Melissa Percy the one who was married to a mate of William but they divorced and he's now marrying Charlotte's teacher?

Completely, @QueenOfTheAndals! But then it was a serious era. I love the jewels on display though - @BlingLoving 's name springs to mind!

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/01/2020 21:37

IIRC Queen Maud of Norway was George V's sister so HM's great aunt. Which makes her and King Harald what? Second cousins?

Grin I got my name while planning my wedding. Needless to say, my dress was SPARKLY!! I also wore a swarovski necklace which I love. Dont get to wear it often but absolutely love it when I do. Often think if I was rich I would have an exact kne made but using real diamonds and possibly some opals!!!

Everytime I read dd's favourite Cinderella book to her I wonder if charlotte has a similar book and ever begs kate to wear a dress based on the book for a party at BP!!

BlingLoving · 11/01/2020 21:41

We should plan a thread- trip to the Tower!! Dh still chuckled remembering my face when we were on the jewel travolator

frugalkitty · 11/01/2020 21:42

The Spencer tiara remains my favourite, it's just so sparkly!

madmum5811 · 11/01/2020 21:46

Some of the tiaras have not been seen for a long time. Anyone else notice how the queen mum when young wore them on her forehead very low down, it must have been the fashion then.

Disfordarkchocolate · 11/01/2020 21:47

I don't like the lilac ruffled picture of Diane. I think its the makeup, it's too old for her. I think she looked the best after her divorce, she really started looking comfortable in her skin.

madmum5811 · 11/01/2020 21:52

The Royals really loved their ermine a status symbol perhaps

hopeishere · 11/01/2020 21:55

Melissa Percy's tiara is weirdly wide which I think is the problem.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/01/2020 21:55

@Disfordarkchocolate Diana's makeup and hair and clothes were all too old for her when she was a royal. It's funny to look at photos of her in 1980s power suits and realise she was only in her twenties at the time. Kate and Meghan look much more youthful even though they're both now older than she ever got to be.

Ah, I knew I was wrong, thanks @madmum5811!

A thread trip to the Tower would be apt, after all we've said on here Crown Grin The tiaralator is amazingly good fun - I went round twice last year!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 11/01/2020 22:11

How I would love to be let loose in the Royal Jewellery Vaults, all that sparkle & glitter.
Princess Charlotte is going to be one lucky girl when she's older.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 11/01/2020 22:38

I'm not normally a fan of aquamarine tiaras, but this one's lovely https://www.instagram.com/p/B7MVvvUpqeW/?igshid=qrx5b0zof5pl

That's a stunner millennium

NoGravyForYou · 11/01/2020 23:25

Oh wow that is beautiful!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 11/01/2020 23:47

My that is beautiful & also quite eerily sad to think that that tiara belonged to Alix, the last Tsarina of Russia & also one of Victoria's granddaughters.

The Albion Art Institute is owned by Kazumi Arikawa. Here is an article about him & his collections:

He owns some beautiful pieces.

@paradyning
Love those tiaras in the Tatler link; particularly the Heathcote one which you posted; it’s really pretty.

There’s mention of the Ermine robes in Angela Kelley’s book.
Apparently they are so heavy that the have handles sewn in so that the pages can carry them easily.

Article on Russian Kokokshnik Tiaras
They are making a comeback; even Chanel fine joallerie is producing them.

Prince Charles has travelled overnight to Oman to pay his respects over the passing of the Sultan]]
He’s due to be back for the family meeting on Monday.
Even travelling first class; that must be exhausting.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 12/01/2020 08:05

@TracyBeakerSoYeah

Thé jewellry on thé Albion Art institué is beautiful,
I would travel to Tokyo to see it!

This sapphire parure reminds me a bit of CP Mary’s ruby parure
