If you use expensive shampoo and conditioner

Could you please tell me what brand you use and why you love it?
I have fine , dry hair and shampoos from boots etc just aren't working anymore.
I feel I need to invest in something better.

I was trying to cut down on my expenditure so was using L'Oreal stuff from the supermarket. My hairdresser told me off as he could see the difference in my hair and not in a good way. Sad

So, since then I've been using Redken Extreme for the last 6 months and the difference it's made to my hair has been amazing. My father's partner was stunned at Christmas at how good my hair looked (she hadn't seen me for ages). I buy it from either lookfantastic or TKMaxx when they have it.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 01/01/2020 16:27

Philip B Russian Amber

It's expensive but the smell is divine

revelsandrose · 01/01/2020 16:35

Another vote for redken extreme, I also use the extreme anti snap treatment to help prevent breakage.

magicstar1 · 01/01/2020 16:41

Do any of you have very thick, coarse hair? The recommendations seem to be for fine hair.

antlady · 01/01/2020 16:43

I like Kerastase, use the green range mainly. Also like Aveda & recently discovered Khiels olive conditioner which I really like. Have also got Olapex. Cheap one I like is John Frieda volume but not the gel one, my hair hated that.

Tw1nset · 01/01/2020 16:44

Either aveda or redken. i also don't dye my hair and use very little heat on it.

antlady · 01/01/2020 16:44

I have long coloured thick hair that has a natural wave, like Giseles. It knots quite easily.

GlamGiraffe · 01/01/2020 16:46

Kerastase. I've tried loads. Long fine hairs, but loads of it, very dry and VERY tangly snaps off easily. Nothing else has been any contest. The regular use of masks helps add extra help. My long term hairdresser introduced me to the rande and I was loathed to spend so much but it's been a game changer. I now buy the huge bottles which is much cheaper. If I nip to the local blow dry place where they use aveda and I forget my own they are stumped as I have an unmanageable birdsnest. They actually said it was the worst theyd seen so far.😯. The kerastase is a dream by comparison.

kittykatkitty · 01/01/2020 16:47

I've decided on a blunt shoulder length bob and have ordered some Redken extreme of look fantastic.
I've gone for shampoo conditioner and anti snap serum

I use Tresemme which is as good as a salon shampoo and comes in 900ml bottles so Good vale & much less waste plastic.

GlamGiraffe · 01/01/2020 16:50

@lovemenorca

Kerastase specialist stockists sell the big bottles or you can try asking your normal hairdressers but they dont all sell the big bottles. You might have to try a few shops, especially the ones that seem to be showing a trally extensive range (of about 15 colours!)

HelenRose1111 · 01/01/2020 16:51

For Thick, coarse (mine's long too) I use Matrix Biolage Smoothing Shampoo/Conditioner, tried all the others but really notice the difference if I stop using it.
I get 1 litre bottles off Ebay, about £14.99 or so, last about 6 months

lovemenorca · 01/01/2020 16:52

Thank you! So you buy from a shop rather than online?

CottonSock · 01/01/2020 16:54

Kerastase after asking on here :)
I buy giant bottles

HappyHarlot · 01/01/2020 17:49

Aveda.

dudsville · 01/01/2020 17:51

I have fine and dry hair going grey. I use aveda dry remedy.

Standinguptononsense · 01/01/2020 17:56

I use aveda cherry and almond shampoo and conditioner and then the dry remedy intensive conditioner once a week. I wouldnt use anything else now

lotusbell · 01/01/2020 17:57

Currently swapping between Maui which I always get when it's on offer at Boots and Aveda Sap Moss which i splurged on as the sample I tried made my hair feel wonderful but having bought the full size, it's not as great, for some reason!
Thinking of buying the Cherry and Almond. I have very thick, coarse hair and a lot of it but hair products for dry hair often leave my hair dull then my scalp gets greasy quickly. Because I have so much hair, I can get away with it as my hair never looks greasy but as my hair is so dense, I need to wash it regularly as it starts to smell sweaty and stale very quickly.
I have a patch of scalp which gets very irritated and it's worse when I use hair with sulfates so while I'd love to try Redken and Kerastase, I think they'll make my head itch.

lotusbell · 01/01/2020 17:59

Oooh @Standinguptononsense, cross post! Would you advise? I have tried a sample if it and it sounds like it's just right for my hair. Currently on offer on Look Fantastic for about 23 pound for both.

Bananaman123 · 01/01/2020 18:06

Fine, oily roots. Can use philip kingsley daily and hair feels, clean and soft.

In the past ive loved Aveda, lanza, redkin. I like to mix it up though and use different shampoos so have about 3 or 4 sets on the go at one time

Ferrisbuellersdayoff · 01/01/2020 18:10

Olaplex. I have the salon treatment when I get my hair coloured, then use the shampoo and conditioner at home.

Laiste · 01/01/2020 19:00

Well, thanks to this thread i've just ordered 35 quids worth of Keratise Densifique shampoo and conditioner from Amazon! Coming Friday so we'll see ... Good price on there - saved about a tenner compared to the Keratise site and free deliv.

SteelRiver · 01/01/2020 19:02

I dont really bother with expensive shampoos but I do like Mane & Tail conditioner. It seems to keep the ends of my hair in good nick without weighing it down.

DickDewy · 01/01/2020 19:09

I use Pureology which is suplhate free but foams, which is important to me.

It's not expensive either - less than £20.

Ardnassa · 01/01/2020 20:37

Kerastase and Coco&Eve conditioner. I have fine hair (though lots of it) which is curly (and naturally bright red!) and expensive shampoo and conditioner definitely makes all the difference.
