Fancy being a Goddess for 2020?

Pinkarsedfly · 01/01/2020 11:08

Bear with me. I’m 45, size 14, about as far from a Goddess as you could possibly imagine.

But...I read a comment from a MNer on one of these boards a few months back, I think it was on a thread about stopping overeating, and it’s really stuck with me. The OP was asking how she could stop bingeing on crap, and a pp said something like, ‘Eating good food in the right amount is more goddess-like. Treat yourself like a Goddess.’

I really liked that. It stuck with me. I like the idea of channelling an innner goddess much more than princessing. So I thought I’d start a thread of ideas about how to be a goddess for 2020.

So far I’ve thought of:

Take regular exercise - not in a sweaty gym, but running outside, yoga, stretching etc. Good for the mind as well as the body.

Eat well, and not too much. There’s not much goddess-like about shoving your hand down a tube of Pringles and getting crumbs down your front.

Drink more water.

Looking after skin, maybe use natural products?

Be creative and try to use more positive self-talk?

I don’t know if I’m barking up the wrong tree, but I’m feeling my way towards treating myself better and hoping it has a knock-on effect.

Any other potential goddesses out there with more ideas?

I am loving this thread, I've been lurking from the start, thank you everyone. I've managed to cut out a lot of rubbish by asking 'what would my inner goddess eat'. Loved goddesses don't eat pringles from the tube idea.

I've decided everything a goddess does must be useful or enjoyable, this had massively cut down on phone browsing. It's helped me to start some much needed decluttering.

Thank you

Werking I think some lovely chocolate eaten in a beautifully scented bubble bath is a very Goddess-like way to treat yourself after a stressful day.

Love the idea of celebrating Imbolc. Am I allowed to do it a couple of days late? My next Reading Group meeting is on the 3rd, so it would be the perfect excuse.

I had a very Goddess-like dinner of fish, brown rice and vegetables. Then the Reading Group came round, and there was red wine taken and I baked a banana bread. But I guess that’s balance.

Tomorrow I’m going back to Slimming World, so I’ll be facing the consequences of Christmas.

It was my first day back at work since the 19th Dec (teaching) and it has simultaneously knocked my Goddess and helped it stay focused.

Being at work has meat I had fruit for breakfast, not the Christmas potato scone bagels; I had a thought out and planned a healthy, dairy and meat free lunch; managed to get home and cook a dinner for us all and we sat at the table, together, for the first time ever (our old dining table was an awkward shape and the chairs broke, this is new but over Christmas we've been eating as and when). I've also spent less time on my phone.

However being at work has also meant I felt stressed this morning as I forgot I hadn't left my room ready to go before the break; I never got to the gym as intended; I drank more coffee today than I planned as i couldn't sleep last night (first day back nerves); and I brought work home, something I'm trying to cut down on.

However I am now about to watch one episode of Queer Eye on Netflix, something I've recently started doing for myself. I never really watch TV but this is a good way of relaxing without having to engage much. I would pick up my book but I'm verging on tired and wouldn't fully take it in.

I am going to Goddess by looking at my gyms class timetable and trying to book in to one or two this week and if I can't I'll make up a two "getting back into it" circuits combining cardio and weights.

Loving the idea of an Imbolc celebration!

Only managed four portions of fruit and veg but did drink 2.5 litres of water, walk 3 miles and completed MUTU core exercises. Have also signed up for the MITU 10 day challenge. Part of day one is to check for Diastasis Recti, I have 1.5 fingers 😔

Was planning to have an early night after finishing my chapter but the youngest woke up and is still awake an hour later. He is showing no signs of being sleepy. 🙄

Had got mine and the children's clothes ready for the morning and made packed lunches as that worked well this morning.

@Werking that sounds like a stressful day, well done for getting through it, hope you treated yourself to something nice.

2020nymph · 06/01/2020 23:50

@PixiePowered sounds like a full on day back. Definitely count the wins on that one!

AnnieJ1985 · 07/01/2020 08:17

Good morning Goddesses!

I have just caught up with your posts and feel like I can take on the day now (after waking up with a whimper and "nooooo" )

I went back to work yesterday, and wasn't very goddessy, but this week my plan is to get through the days, and rest up in the evenings. I need to get my sleep back on track.

Doilooklikeatourist · 07/01/2020 08:51

Back to work tomorrow , I need to plan for that ( work in a cafe , so menu plan , and shop for that )
I have a haircut booked , very well planned , doesn’t look like a cut is needed yet , but by next week I’ll be sporting the sheepdog look

Still haven’t managed to sort my bedroom out , I did buy a little basket to put all my new beauty supplies in , so slow progress is being made

Will be back on the LC Bootcamp next week , I’m trying to be mindful of what I eat in preparation , but cut down too much and was hungry at about 8pm , had a goddess like plate of cheese , biscuits and grapes

Will go out today wearing my new super skinny trousers ( but my old boots )
Hoping for a spring in my step as I swish my hair ❤️

I'm liking how the goddess ethos is about what we do and how we do it - nourishing our bodies, exercising for health, indulging our senses for the sheer joy of it.
I'm trying to do a lot more exercise this year, and Tuesday shall be my day of no exercise (for now, if commitments change I might change it as the year progresses).
I have always had a bingeing issue around sweet food. I've decided not to quit wholesale, but to mark the diary on sugar free days and aim for 300 sugar free days over the year (ideally 315).
Im trying to hold myself in the goddess mentality, especially at work where I have to guide and advise people without actually being their line manager! I like the Feb 1st celebration, I've done something like that in the past but I didn't know it was a proper celebration!
Have a blessed day to all in our Grace!

BlueSkies2020 · 07/01/2020 09:28

Terrible night sleep as denying baby milk in the day led to more wakenings. But he needs to learn it’s the bottle or nothing during the day! I’ve put my lovely new Rigby and Pellar bra on today instead of usual nursing bra. Has immediately made me feel more goddess like! Gosh their bras are good (albeit £££).

I’ve started planning goals in migoals diary planner. But it’s slow progress. Did a lot of housework yesterday so I’ll use nap times to plan and set some proper SMART goals.

Three things I’m doing today:

  • Perfume - 4160 Tuesdays Rhubard & Custard (more sophisticated than it sounds!)
  • Shower, dress and full make up upon waking despite not planning to go out today
  • Decluttering session planned for this afternoon. Anything worn or with holes is going in recycling, decent stuff to charity shop. If it’s not useful or sparking joy I’m getting rid. Is Marie Kondo a goddess then??

Yesterday’s SoTD was Miller Harris Noix de Tuberose (loud and proud!)

thebabessavedme · 07/01/2020 09:31

morning goddesses, had a good day yesterday, apartment gleaming, a good long walk and I also bought myself a new dress in the sales, a really nice snakeskin shirt dress that I can wear with my wedge sandels and a necklace I already have, so thought about styling before buying, something I dont usually think to do Hmm also went into Kiko for a look around, left with eyebrow tint, nail varnish and a lipstick for £11 Grin they seem quite good quality.
Today I am making dhs favourite soup to have with warm crusty rolls and then a walk in the park with my dgs, that will up my steps as he is only 4 and tends to run about like a dog while calling me to 'keep up nana' Grin

have a wonderful day all you wonderful goddesses!

Pinkarsedfly · 07/01/2020 09:54

Loving these messages!

It’s my last day off before I go back to work tomorrow, so I’m mainly going to be prepping for that, but I aim to sneak in a run first.

I’ll have a pamper session tonight though - I like to do my nails before I go back to work, so that when I catch sight of my hands I feel all put together and glam; even if the rest of me is telling a different story, I can’t see that can I? Wink

I’m going to do something very grown-up and Goddess-Like today. I bought some Grenson Nanette boots online in a sale. I’ve wanted a pair forever and they were on a really good reduction.

They arrived yesterday, and are beautiful, but despite being my usual size, they’re too big. When I checked online, they’re no longer on at sale price, so at first I was going to buy insoles and keep them.

But no. That’s not what a Goddess would do. Goddesses do not schlep about in too-big boots just because they are cheap.

So I shall return them, and save up for the real deal.

Can I please join! I was feeling this way before stumbling over this thread! No resolutions as such but trying to be more me if that makes sense.

Trying to just be a bit more sensible with food choices so love the "nourishing idea" I have a packed lunch with me of a salmon fillet, home made coleslaw with red cabbage, carrot, shallots and a lemon, olive oil, and mustard dressing. Also going to go to my works gym at lunchtime.

Trying to keep my house in better order 9do dishes straight away not leave them until the next day) and put things away as and when. Also trying to read more, booked onto an evening course and made some plans towards one of my personal goals for the year.

Feeling positive!!

Carriemac · 07/01/2020 12:10

May I join the goddesses ? Made 20 resolutions for 2020, we have a big holiday planned later this year and I want to be in a good place mind and body for the trip.
Packed lunches to work, more excercise and being 'godesssy' about my actions is a great start

MsRinky · 07/01/2020 12:51

May I join you as well? I ordered myself this top before Christmas, so I think it must be a sign from the divine. I start trying to lose weight (again) next week, this week I am just getting used to the lack of alcohol and chocolate at every turn.

Last night I actually sorted out what I was going to wear for my first day back at work today instead of crashing around in a panic this morning and I put serum on my face. Have just eaten my lovely home-made organic veggie soup for lunch in a mindful fashion.

Fancy being a Goddess for 2020?
bohemia14 · 07/01/2020 13:06

I'd like to join in too. I've really let myself go and am determined this time to turn it around. Ive started the new year by trying to eat more healthily and have substituted vodka for wine and started drinking less. Today I went swimming for the first time in months and am planning to start a 5k programme next week.

In trying to be more goddess like I've sorted out my clothes for work tomorrow and polished my boots. I'm about to go food shopping and although I haven't got as far as putting make up on I've blow dried my hair and put on perfume.

PhoenixMama · 07/01/2020 13:41

Having a very goddessy here - yoga booked for later, healthy lunch but also killing it on the To Do list. I've decided goddesses don't leave things on their lists forever so if I've had something on my list for 3 or so days that is the thing I have to tackle first thing. Such a relief to get things actually done!

BagathaBhristie · 07/01/2020 16:13

Hello, I've been reading avidly and am inspired and keen to join the Grace!

Menopausal (not too bad but it's heralded low mood/the grumps/insomnia/anxiety), feel stuck in a rut and am tired of feeling less than. Really hoping by adopting a full-on goddess mindset I can be happier...

Started six months ago: exercising with regular gym and yoga sessions which have helped my mood, listened to You are a Badass on repeat on Audible, got a p-t job after decades as a SAHM etc...

Life is not good ATM so I think I need goddess thinking even though energy and motivation are lacking.

Have chosen my word for 2020: Connection hence why I joined this thread! Am also taking myself off to the theatre for the afternoon in a few weeks and have ordered a Goodbye 2019, hello 2020' journal to work through in order to end up with a life I love. I also need to finish a major period of study so I can move on with my life.

Loving all your posts!

pontiouspilates · 07/01/2020 18:18

Hi everyone, I love the idea of celebrating Imbolc on 1st February. First day back at work today, I set the alarm 20 minutes earlier than usual and did some yoga, it felt like a very goddessy way to start the day! I'm keeping a journal of all my goddess endeavors as well as writing down three things I am grateful for each day and why. Thanks to this thread, I feel calmer and more optimistic than I have in a while.

Fivefourthree · 07/01/2020 20:53

I would like to be a goddess too! I have been walking more, and am working on eating better, and being mindful.
Next up I plan to improve my wardrobe and make an attempt to dress in a more feminine manner (I am a bit of a jeans and fleece woman and have been all my life, but I'd love to change that)
Thank you for this thread!

Fivefourthree · 07/01/2020 20:58

I am reading this thread backwards. I quite fancy doing Imbolc too. (First I shall research it)

I have barely done anything today except look after small children. I’m sooo tired. Averaging 4-5 hours of (crap) sleep between dealing with the children.

My main aim is therefore to get my beauty sleep tonight. Everything else can wait!

2020nymph · 07/01/2020 23:11

Good evening goddesses!

I'm sacrificing my early night to get everything ready for tomorrow, am waiting for the washing to finish. I did manage a run and MUTU core today. Have had six portions of fruit and veg and drunk 2litres of water.

Am also redoing my nails, a goddess does not have chipped nails! And reading my book club book, aiming not to be reading until 2 in the morning the night before in order to finish it before we meet!

2020nymph · 07/01/2020 23:15

@Pinkarsedfly what colour nails to you go for? I'm currently painting mine orange, not my normal winter colour.

@PhoenixMama killing the to do list sounds amazing!

@BlueSkies2020 you looked after small children on broken sleep, you're doing great!

Pinkarsedfly · 08/01/2020 07:47

Morning all! Back to work today for me. I had a good food day yesterday and didn’t have any alcohol for the first time in ages thank you Christmas so I’ve woken up feeling positive after a good night’s sleep.

2020 I usually keep my nails short and dark, so a variation on the theme of Rouge Noir, but not the real thing because I don’t find Chanel polish to be worth the money. Sometimes I try navy or a dark grey, but I usually gravitate back to dark red.
