Fancy being a Goddess for 2020?

Pinkarsedfly · 01/01/2020 11:08

Bear with me. I’m 45, size 14, about as far from a Goddess as you could possibly imagine.

But...I read a comment from a MNer on one of these boards a few months back, I think it was on a thread about stopping overeating, and it’s really stuck with me. The OP was asking how she could stop bingeing on crap, and a pp said something like, ‘Eating good food in the right amount is more goddess-like. Treat yourself like a Goddess.’

I really liked that. It stuck with me. I like the idea of channelling an innner goddess much more than princessing. So I thought I’d start a thread of ideas about how to be a goddess for 2020.

So far I’ve thought of:

Take regular exercise - not in a sweaty gym, but running outside, yoga, stretching etc. Good for the mind as well as the body.

Eat well, and not too much. There’s not much goddess-like about shoving your hand down a tube of Pringles and getting crumbs down your front.

Drink more water.

Looking after skin, maybe use natural products?

Be creative and try to use more positive self-talk?

I don’t know if I’m barking up the wrong tree, but I’m feeling my way towards treating myself better and hoping it has a knock-on effect.

Any other potential goddesses out there with more ideas?

@MrsBFlowers good luck with the new job tomorrow - quite a big deal going back to work after 6 years, you’ve done brilliantly to get a job and with your new goddess wings (which, unlike an angel’s, are invisible Wink) you will levitate serenely over any stress and glide through the day.

@Kevinthestick LOVE the idea of grapes with cheese, goddesses eat grapes. Preferably hand-fed by a beautiful serving boy, but we’ll start with plates.

@BlueSkies2020 thanks for those tips. Flowers I’ll be applying sunscreen tomorrow, I have a Barbara Sturm one in an AC. I’ve had a look at the beauty thread you recommended and I will join once I’ve got through much of my stash. In the meantime.

I’m impressed by the decluttering efforts. I shall be Getting Rid of stuff this week.
More Goddess, less Hoggess Grin

So busy replying to others I forgot to say:

My goddess-ing today include a 3.5km dog walk at a good clip through Richmond Park. Deer, sunset, open space, ponds. Was beautiful. I’ve smashed my 10k steps target and feel very good. Have just done an eye mask and face mask before bed. Also did a 3-min meditation.

Tomorrow I start my new work routine and healthy eating plan. I’m aiming to lose 7lbs this month.

BlueSkies2020 · 06/01/2020 08:01

Had success today so far with routine ...

More sleep, early morning breast feed (that’s it for today, I’ll be strict with bottle until after office hours - as if he’s with childminder.... I need to get routine sorted for return to work), shower straight away and dressed, skincare done, wash on... finally sit down for breakfast, cuppa and mumsnet!

Going to get a strict routine down to military precision this week!

Excited about the prospect of planning later with my new migoals diary - thanks @Werking it’s impressive- very detailed and should help me get shit done. Going to buy one for DH who needs help in achieving ambitious career goals

I’d like to recommend a book. It kick started me after last Maternity leave and I honestly believe it’s responsible for getting me onto the road to 3 promotions since then. I need to revisit it. I’m usually sceptical bout ‘self help’ but this booked changed my mindset. It’s called ‘You are a badass’. I think that’s what all us goddesses should be aspiring to Grin

poorbuthappy · 06/01/2020 08:44

I made myself a salad this morning for lunch. This is a big thing for me. 😆

thebabessavedme · 06/01/2020 08:57

yes yes yes to getting showered, dressed and make up on before doing anything else, I had got in the habit of eating breakfast in my dressing gown and not being dressed before 10.30, don't know why as I hate it, makes me feel like a slob, so, I AM NOT DOING THAT AGAIN Grin

I also agree that your bedroom should be your calm, peaceful sanctury, thankfully I'm a naturally tidy person but I do have to fight Dhs 'scatter bomb' approach to living.

Pinkarsedfly · 06/01/2020 09:22

Morning Goddesses!

I’m making steps towards moving forward today - getting my name changed back to my maiden name. I’m still stuck with my first husband’s name, as I wanted the same name as my kids when they were minors, but now they’re all grown up and I’ve remarried, so it’s time to reclaim myself!

Not feeling hugely Goddess-like today. Slept badly and have woken up with a headache. Still, DH brought me porridge in bed for breakfast, and I’m going to have a shower and use the nice smellies I got for Christmas to perk myself up.

Quick reflection about something which makes a big difference for little effort. Eyelash curlers. Use for a few seconds before applying mascara. Gives you a lash lift, makes them appear longer, opens up the eye and makes me feel more goddess like!

I’ve been researching eye serums. I want fuller, longer lashes. The revitalash brand looks like the best one but it’s very expensive. I’m going to try castor oil as the budget option first. Will report back.

Apparently the Philip Kingsley elasticiser is basically castor oil. So might try using it as a hair mask too.

Pinkarsedfly · 06/01/2020 10:03

I might try that, Blueskies

I’ve noticed my eyelashes thickening up again after taking Perfectil Skin, Hair and Nails for a couple of months. I was finding my hair thinning a bit at the temples, so I started taking them, and it seems to have sorted it out and given me thicker eyelashes and eyebrows too.

In fact, I’ve taken two complete packs and am going to buy a third today, which never happens. I find that keeping my vitamins next to my bed and taking them at night means I’m far more likely to remember to take them than in the morning when I’m rushing about. I take Vit D (high dose) and Magnesium too.

DP and I have gone vegan from the New Year 😁 feels quite Demeter-esque

pontiouspilates · 06/01/2020 12:22

I've just got back from the first pilates class of the year. Walked there and back to get my steps up. Inspired by PP I'm off to de clutter my bedroom and choose a nice new paint to make it a suitable Goddess Sanctuary. Back to work tomorrow, will make sure clothes are ready and get a healthy lunch prepared.

Doilooklikeatourist · 06/01/2020 13:02

Back to work Wednesday
Have cleared the ironing pile , need to make a list and pop into town for some nice goddess like veg
Then declutter and sort the bedroom
I also have an assignment which I would like to get finished and submit it before the last possible day
Then I will be serene like a swan , without the legs paddling like the clappers underneath , and can start to read a goddess like novel ( or Wham , George and me , that I started on Christmas Day )

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 06/01/2020 13:15

Good afternoon, what an uplifting thread; I'd love to join you if I may.

After losing a fair chunk of weight in my 40s I will, at 53 years old, get on stage in my very first bodybuilding competition at the end of May. I'm bloody terrified. But I'm doing it Blush

Love reading about all your goals and progress. Please keep the thread going Smile

Pinkarsedfly · 06/01/2020 13:52

NiceLegs weightlifting! Bloody good on you!

I love seeing what women in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond start to achieve once we find our mojos again. We really do rock.

OP posts:
Pinkarsedfly · 06/01/2020 14:02

Sorry, bodybuilding.

My mojo isn’t quite with me today, clearly Blush

Hello Goddesses! Can I join too please? This feels like a continuation of last year for me - I lost 4 stone last year on Fast800 & have just gone back to it for another stone.

I'm also doing Adriene's 30 Days of Yoga (which I love) and I'm contemplating trying to do 365 days!

I need to be nicer to myself this year so positive self talk will be big.

I've also set 20 goals for this year but they are around what I can control. Unfortunately last year was full of rejection for me - rejections from 15 agents (I'm also a writer), not getting more than 16 different jobs (half of which I was over qualified for) and also getting rejected for further support for one of my passion projects. That much rejection left me really battered by the 3nd of the year so trying to focus on what I can do this year, rather than the outcomes. If anyone has ideas on how I could work on this I'd love to hear them!

I'd also love not too expensive sunscreen suggestions, I always wear it in the summer but need a new one & love reccs!

poorbuthappy · 06/01/2020 18:24

Salad was lovely. Yoga done. Now eating lasagne and drinking lots of water.
Bed by 9 to read and relax and not think about the washing. That's for tomorrow.
Smile

I love the idea of celebrating Imbolc, how lovely. I first read The Mists of Avalon when I was 12 and it had a profound effect on me and have been intrigued by paganism ever since.

In further Goddessing today I decluttered my bedside table and curated it with a few pretty hardbacks, a small bunch of daffs and a gorgeous coaster that DD made in her ceramics class.

Talking about eyelash curlers, the Shu Umera ones are the bomb. Make sure you apply them properly though. Once you have crimped them as close to your eyelid as possible (careful not to pinch it) you need to carefully angle the curlers upwards until they're nearly vertical. This gives a much enhanced lift and curl. I always use them after my mascara has dried which means my lashes keep their curl all day (I know you're not meant to, but I've never had any problems).

Lastly, a dot of highlighter (I like Benefit Hi Beam) rubbed into your Cupid's bow makes your top lip look fuller.

Werking · 06/01/2020 20:37

Ooh I love the idea of celebrating Imbolc. I’ve never heard if it before. I’m a little shy about asking friends over to celebrate it though. So... are there any other London Goddesses here? If so, do you fancy a meet-up on that day/night (it’s a Saturday) to celebrate our goddessing?

Loving the idea of Imbolc celebration. I am not very goddess like today as have a stinking cold, first proper day back work and haven't found time or energy for yoga. Am under blanket eating chocolate and watching the Crown. Must do better.
