@SunsetBoulevard3

luxury holiday paid for by someone else

How do we know that they haven't paid for the holiday themselves? Even if they were lent the accommodation by someone, how is it different from me staying in friends' places in Milan, Edinburgh or Paris over the last couple of years?

itswinetime · 01/01/2020 18:05

I agree a long luxury holiday would make anyone happy.

I don't think Harry looks particularly miserable most of the time though. And I don't really agree with the idea that the Sussex's are lazy yes they are having an extended break but last year Harry did something like 20 less engagements than William and Meghan who had maternity leave did 40 less than Kate. They are working as hard as any of the royals. They are just doing it in a way that works for them I think.

I agree though I think a lot will depend on how they come back from this break and how they move forward next year.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/01/2020 19:21

And indeed how the media treat them when they're back. I really hope they stop with the narrative of bad Meghan vs good Kate as it's ridiculous, not to mention misogynistic.

It depends on what benefit or favour the lender gets out of the arrangement. I think the royals - all of them- need to be careful from whom they accept favours. We've seen recently how badly that can backfire.

StartupRepair · 01/01/2020 20:03

Harry allegedly told someone on walkabout in the South African tour that some days he feels so despondent about the world that it is hard to get out of bed. I hope he has his mojo back.

Crikey, that's bleak.

AppleKatie · 01/01/2020 20:18

Allegedly

CPM looks amazing in plum coloured velvet.

Mary is wearing the famous ruby parure which was made for Desiree Bernadotte to wear to Napoleon's coronation. Her husband was later appointed King of Sweden. Completely fascinating piece of history.

StartupRepair · 01/01/2020 22:09

More on the parure here. She was very brave to revamp it.

StCharlotte · 01/01/2020 22:15

CPM is to plum velvet gowns [at New Year's Court] as Kate is to pale blue coats. Either that or she's more thrifty and not averse to repeated re-wears.

In any event I think this is her best look.

StCharlotte · 01/01/2020 22:18

I really hate to do this but is Marie pregnant or is that just a trick of the light?

banivani · 01/01/2020 22:20

Mary looks fantastic in that velvet. Look at QM in her fur stole - no worrying about looking unethical there! There’s a lot of bling and funny hats in Denmark isn’t there?

The round ups of royal fashion costs were as usual interesting. Stellar work by those bloggers! It’s a great starting point in talking about what all those clothes are FOR.

justasking111 · 01/01/2020 22:36

I am wondering if one of our royals will come back from an extended break with news of another baby on the way. That would be lovely.

QueenOfTheAndals · 01/01/2020 22:45

Uh oh, Princess Benedikte is SWFing CPM in plum velvet!

OP posts:
MotherofPearl · 01/01/2020 22:49

The same thought crossed my mind about Marie @StCharlotte but I think it is just a combination of the light and the sheen on that fabric.

StCharlotte · 01/01/2020 22:50

Uh oh, Princess Benedikte is SWFing CPM in plum velvet!

But it looks so much cheaper Crown Grin

MotherofPearl · 01/01/2020 22:51

Thanks for that interesting information about the ruby parure @StartupRepair, I didn't know that.

paradyning · 01/01/2020 22:54

Mary's plum velvet dress with ruby parure is my all time fav look on her. I think that's at least the 3rd time she's worn it to that event.

paradyning · 01/01/2020 22:58

Benedikte looks fantastic too. The ruching thingy across the bodice is v flattering
