Like the trousers @Sooverthemill Will look good in summer with flat sandals

mynameiscalypso · 17/01/2020 17:38

So much excellent inspiration on this thread! I really like the office outfits and I'm mentally putting together my existing clothes and developing an idea of a work style for when I go back.

I met a friend for drinks last night and actually wore proper clothes (a black and gold Hush shirt dress and black ankle boots). It felt so fancy to get dressed up! Today I'm in a denim mini skirt and oversized green jumper. I went to a baby class this morning and realised a mini skirt was not the best choice. God know how many people saw my pants!

KiteflyingKat · 17/01/2020 18:08

Question for you all, where do we stand on scarves? Indoor kind not the woolly winter ones.
I found a box in my wardrobe, I went through a scarf phase in about 2014/15 but haven’t worn them recently. Should I reintroduce them??

happytobemrsg · 17/01/2020 18:35

The trousers look great on you @PalacePaper

Dress down in the office today.

Shirt: Mint Velvet
Jeans: New Look
Blazer: Miss Selfridge
Belt: Gucci
Boots: M&S

@happytibemrsg that is a fabulous outfit on you!

Ellapaella · 17/01/2020 18:52

Happy you look great! Love the outfit, very chic

KiteflyingKat · 17/01/2020 19:11

I agree, lovely outfit @happytobemrsg

mynameiscalypso · 17/01/2020 19:39

I'm loving the tucked in t shirt @happytobemrsg, it looks so chic.

@KiteflyingKat I was thinking about those too recently; I used to pretty much live in them (particularly in the office when the a/c was always on) and it feels like it might be worth bringing them back but I'm still not 100% sure.

happytobemrsg · 17/01/2020 20:40

Ah thanks everyone 😊 I got some lovely compliments from people at work too!

Isn't it freezing? Had to keep the heating on all night for DD so that was kind of a plus waking up to a cosy house

Remembered these skinnies which i haven't worn for ages which is nice, like having new clothes, and paired it with a super warm jumper from Biden which I bought with mega discount plus voucher . Just realised apart from my undies I'm totally Boden. That's worrying.

Jumper: Boden November 2019
Jeans: Boden Mayfair skinnies AW 2018 I think
Shoes: Boden sale November 2019 but I'd been eying them for a long time. I do love a backless loafers and my old ones getting tatty. These are navy

Ooh I love a Slouch Day! AKA the weekend. Very baggy and very old harem pants from Michael Kors (they have pockets!), karrimor padded socks, camisole vesty top from M&S. Looove digging around my wardrobe for new-old stuff!

@Sooverthemill I really like that outfit even if it is all Boden!! I avoid Boden (I just have one skirt) as I don’t feel old enough (I’m late 30s) Grin

Sooverthemill · 18/01/2020 10:05

@kite šŸ˜‚

I've been buying Boden since they started (early 90s) and I find them to be consistent on 'classics and in their sizing'. Jeans, tops, dresses. Only started buying their shoes in last few years. Avoid anything quirky!

Oh and their returns policy and customer service is really good

KiteflyingKat · 18/01/2020 10:12

So I tried a scarf today, honest opinions please! My toddler didn’t approve ... ā€œOff Mummy! Off Mummy....ā€

  • scarf - gift ages ago
  • jumper - Aigle
  • Jeans - New Look
  • Boots - Moda in Pelle

Honestly? With that outfit, no. It’s a bit Desperate Dan. May well work with something else though.

happytobemrsg · 18/01/2020 11:26

Taking a selfie whilst wearing a poncho is impossible!

Poncho- H&M
Long sleeve top- Uniqlo
Leggings- H&M

Cold but dry here today so I'm wearing the outfit I wanted to wear yesterday!
Ruched skirt - hush
Sweatshirt - M&S
Fleece lined tights (cosy 😊) - Aldi
And trainers, but haven't decided which pair. I prefer the purple ones but not sure they're the right shade.

@happytobemrsg thank you for your comment on my coated skinnies. Way out of my comfort zone but I'm getting used to them. I love your poncho today, I always find them too bulky on me but that one looks fab on you.

@Sooverthemill your green jumper is beautiful. I'm also a Boden fan - quality is good, excellent customer service and consistent sizing - and a petite range which I need! Some of the stuffs a bit out there for me but great for basics and classics with a discount code.

@kiteflyingkat I really like that scarf, I think the colours look really good with your outfit and I love how much difference something like that can make to a plain outfit. Maybe try tying it in different ways if you're unsure?

I know what you mean @PalacePaper. The clothes I wear now used to be massively out of my comfort zone. I never would have tucked anything, worn (faux) leather or even a midi dress 18 months ago. I’ve not lost weight (in fact in that time I had a baby who is now only 5m), but I feel more confident in my style - I can now put clothes together & know it suits my shape & colouring. I’m also starting to care less about what others think (a work in progress). Most of this has come from getting an analysis by Styled by Susie, following her FB group or just listening to her podcasts. Its not for everyone, but it’s helped me.

@Sooverthemill I don’t own anything from Boden! I was eyeing a coatigan a while back, but it was quite a lot of money & I wasn’t sure. My mum gets dresses from there & they are great quality. I do like that they stick to one style & recreate it in different colours/prints.

happytobemrsg · 18/01/2020 12:57

@KiteflyingKat I’m not convinced about the scarf. But then I’ve never managed to figure out how to wear a scarf indoors

OP posts:
Sooverthemill · 18/01/2020 13:27

I know Boden is a bit marmite and many people hate it but I do love it for basics. And their petite range is massive and at 5'1.5 I need it. Also not ever being able to get to shops makes online buying an essential ( well,I could not buy anything).

KiteflyingKat · 18/01/2020 13:30

Thanks for the honest scarf opinions. I haven’t worn scarves for years and rediscovered a box. Some beautiful scarves but I feel like I’ve never really mastered how to wear them, although I often admire them on other people. Tricky one.

I’ve got Stylebook! Finally. although not impressed so far as it crashed and I had to delete & reinstall the app & lost everything I had uploaded.....! So far I’ve uploaded my boots .... I’ve got 14 pairs (excluding wellies and walking boots - I’m only uploading ā€œproperā€ clothes not sportswear etc). I definitely don’t need any more clothes Grin

Sooverthemill · 18/01/2020 14:00

@kite I've downloaded it too and am slowly putting all my clothes in. So far I'm going through sweaters and jeans ( 10 pairs of skinnies so far, 8 boyfriend, 4 straight, 3 wide leg and 5 flat/kick flare and I don't think I've finished , tbf some of these are 15 years+ old ). Am also going through my OOTD and putting those on the calendar function. It's fascinating and really helping me see what I have and what goes with what. I am enjoying it but gosh it takes up time

OublietteBravo · 18/01/2020 15:03

It’s cold and sunny here, and I’m definitely wearing weekend clothes. I’m with @Sooverthemill when it comes to Boden. Their return policy is excellent - I’ve never had a problem. The clothing tends to wear/wash well and it’s fine as long as you avoid anything too frilly or weirdly coloured/patterned. I’m not sure the sizing is terribly consistent - but they have the actual garment dimensions for almost everything so it’s fairly easy to work out what size to order.

Jumper: Boden
Jeans: Gap
High tops: Mint Velvet
