Honesty please - can I wear this?

Work Christmas do - would need to add a couple of stitches so it at least covers my bra but not sure how well it would then sit.

Grey tights - yay or nay? Dress is bright red, would black be better?

Assuming my burgundy ankle boots are out so planning on looking for a black pair in the week.

Will I look ok or do I need to go back to the drawing board - roast me please, would prefer it here than at the party.

You could do much better OP. I'm a similar size and shape to you and just ordered some lovely velvet wrap dresses from ASOS - try there. Personally I stay away from anything empire line - all the books say it's flattering but imo it just emphasises a rounder tummy.

Batinahat · 15/12/2019 18:48

Post the picture and your message on the thread "plus size what are you wearing today" (sorry don't know how to post a link). The women on there are amazing and loads of inspiration from their photos of great dresses, outfits and brands to suit plus size. I get so much inspiration for outfits from there and they have great knowledge of specific shops/websites that are good for big boobs etc. I think it is a nice outfit so long as you fix the top - could you add in a little strip of material to provide coverage in the neckline? Or a bandeau top underneath could work. But I also think you could find something even better with some help X X

knewyouwerewaiting · 15/12/2019 18:50

I think even with a stitch you could come flopping out of that.

Daisydoola · 15/12/2019 18:52

I think a stitch will pull it too much. Keep looking, the colour suits you.

SnowyUnicorns · 15/12/2019 18:53

Sorry I don't think the cut flatters you. You obviously have good legs but that dress makes you look all boobs and tummy. A wrap or skater dress would be much better. There are loads of Curve dresses affordably priced in the Oasis sale at the moment which would be much better cut to make the most of what you have.

SnowyUnicorns · 15/12/2019 18:58

This is nice. Would show off your legs while minimising boobs and tummy.

Thanks, will send it back.

Looking at ordering some other stuff, bravissimo is a bit put of my price range - probably £60 max. I'm a size 18-20 and the event is this weekend so cutting it a bit fine.

Would any of these be worth a try?

www.next.co.uk/style/esr27885#r27885 - not keen on the look of the fabric though

www.next.co.uk/style/esr25167#r25167?i=18 - bit boring?

Event is kind of formal - I imagine most men will be in suits, but not black tie level or anything

ConstanceL · 15/12/2019 18:59

I think a stitch would make the dress look even tighter and the stitch might not hold - it would look nice in one size up, could you exchange it?

SnowyUnicorns · 15/12/2019 19:00

Another similar cut here which is quite funky if you like a bit of colour. Would look lovely with your hair colour.

ConstanceL · 15/12/2019 19:01

Sorry cross post!
The black one from Next is the nicest - it's got an interesting cut so not boring.

InsertFunnyUsername · 15/12/2019 19:02

I feel like a stitch would make it look tighter and like you were about to flash everyone. It's a lovely colour but I would keep looking IMO.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 15/12/2019 19:02

I wore this to my Xmas party, I'm size 22 and it looked great, was comfy and got loads of compliments.

SnowyUnicorns · 15/12/2019 19:03

This one! Classy, pretty and a good shape for you.

Atalune · 15/12/2019 19:03

Love the Quiz dress. I would add a skinny gold/leopard belt and wear with black tights and black ankle boots. Team with a bright bag.

TreeChanger · 15/12/2019 19:04

It doesn't fit properly.

Yours have a good sale on at the moment.

I got my Xmas eve pj's from there.

Atalune · 15/12/2019 19:04

Oh and big statement dangly earrings!

You’ve got great hair so have that in a sleek blow dry with a nice wave. Classics smokey eye and red lips.

Makemeaname · 15/12/2019 19:04

I have got another dress I could wear, but it's fairly boring and I've worn it to work a few times so people would recognise it.

formerbabe · 15/12/2019 19:05

I LOVE the fourth link you posted op....the black dress that you thought might be boring. It's gorgeous. I'm curvy too and I'm quite tempted to buy it myself! It's not boring...it's classic and quite understated but they can sometimes make us look our best. Pleased you returned the original red dress especially when you said the event is quite formal...it wouldn't have been appropriate.

Instatwat · 15/12/2019 19:05

The Next black one or green one for me.

timeforawine · 15/12/2019 19:05

Would a stitch hold? I ask as someone else with large boobs, last time i stitched it broke. I'd wear a nude cami underneath, maybe one with a lace trim.
Black tights, shoes and cardi/jacket

StCharlotte · 15/12/2019 19:06

I think the velvet linked by TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 would be perfect and Simply Be do next day delivery. The first green one from Freemans would work too (tempted myself!).

Pajamagirl · 15/12/2019 19:07

The black next one is classy , but the simply be one by torysuck is great too , very festive and the colour would be great on you

timeforawine · 15/12/2019 19:08

The one posted by snowyunicorns is gorgeous

Yetanotherwinter · 15/12/2019 19:08

It looks very tight across the boobs and isn’t very flattering on you. Sorry to be blunt. I’m sure your friends at work won’t be too worried what you wear, go and enjoy your Christmas do.

Yetanotherwinter · 15/12/2019 19:10

My fave out of the ones you posted was Grace Kelly dress.
