Don’t like myself in anything I’ve tried , tried a million dresses and I have a wedding to go to in December . Not in a church , don’t think it will be too posh an affair .
I already had this top and I’m now trying it with the skirt in the same pattern .
Could I make this work ?
Please be kind 🙂

What's your budget op? https://m.sezane.com/en/product/winter-collection/titiane-dress?cou_Id=2994 this is lovely and would suit your figure.

If you were to keep the original dress then a spot of fake tan would lift your skin tone and make it more flattering on you.

AlexaAmbidextra · 10/12/2019 21:24

Well @AlexaAmbidextra no-one ever pays the full price for Boden- you'll probably get at least 30% off! And when people complain about poorly made clothes I always wonder where they get better made ones for lower prices? Please let me know!

Well I wouldn’t know about discounts as I never buy Boden. It’s all too dreary. My criticism wasn’t an insult to you personally you know. 🤷‍♀️

thefootofourstairs · 10/12/2019 22:01

I think I’ll order that one to try ellapaella, thanks .

If anyone can suggest a fake tan that doesn’t stain clothes I’d be glad as the one I had last year wrecked a few things and put me off bothering again .

The st tropez in shower tan is good but I think they only do a gradual tanner of it so your have to do it a few times.. it only takes four minutes though!

ivegotthisyeah · 10/12/2019 22:16

I've just been to a winter wedding got a lovely dress from next lots of compliments and I was so comfy. I can't find it though on next I'll keep looking

ivegotthisyeah · 10/12/2019 22:22

I think it is beautiful in an understated way and would work a retro 1970s vibe with an olive velvet blazer and velvet platforms or boots. Dark manicure/lipstick in as deep a wine colour as you can pull off.

It reminds me of Brora stuff.

Ellapaella · 10/12/2019 23:09

This one OP https://www.lookfantastic.com/bondi-sands-liquid-gold-self-tanning-oil-150ml/11568701.html
Bloody marvellous stuff.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 10/12/2019 23:19

These would work with the top....

Retro shoes on Toast site.. I think either colour would work

I think it looks really nice! You certainly wouldn't stand out at a wedding or look weird.

If you've tried on a million things maybe just pick something and go with it, even if you aren't 100% happy. It's fun to dress up but it's not worth stressing out over. You aren't the bride at this wedding.

thefootofourstairs · 11/12/2019 06:11

Great , thanks everyone. I like the colour of your dress I’vegotthis I’ll give it a try .

I agree that if you had several weeks to plan your outfit you could find something which suits your colour / highlights your lovely figure a bit better.

BUT there is absolutely nothing wrong with the outfit , it is a nice outfit for a wedding and I like the ruffle on the top. If this is an outfit you already own then I would just wear it, it looks fine.

AJTracey · 11/12/2019 21:12

I like it. I think if you wore it confidently and wore a red lip (why is it lip when we have two?!) you would look amazing.

Greyhound22 · 11/12/2019 22:17

Sorry OP it's too summery and light.

I got married on a December evening and it was all velvet and dark (and doc martins as there was two foot of snow)

The red velvet dress from Boden is lovely.

ToManderleyAgain · 11/12/2019 23:09

OP, if your outfit is Sezane then I’ve seen it in real life and the fabric is really lovely. I think it’s a beautiful, elegant outfit but I like PPs suggestion to use a fake fur stole to make it more seasonal. Plus if you have bought this outfit as a separate top and skirt then you’ll get wear out of it all through the year (my vote is for not wasting your money on a single use dress!)

thefootofourstairs · 12/12/2019 05:37

It is sezane . I already had the top and ordered the skirt to wear in summer with a T-shirt but had s lightbulb moment that perhaps if I wore them both together it would work for the wedding .
I’ve ordered a few dresses and a skirt from ASOS , Boden and sezane now so I’ll probably be back with a ‘help me choose ‘ post Grin

Really good idea to have a selection of outfits and trying on session. Take photos ( post here if you wish) and a good think. Photos are flat and so don't show texture and detail very well. Wear something that you feel great in!

NiteFlights · 12/12/2019 12:41

I really like it OP. Please don’t waste money on a dress you’ll only wear once because it’s December. Wear this one with dark red suede boots or velvet shoes (the ones PaulHollywood linked are fabulous), a dark red or gold manicure, a suede clutch bag and maybe a fake fur stole as suggested. You’ll look sophisticated and gorgeous.

managedmis · 12/12/2019 12:46

It's just a bit Four Weddings really

That emerald green New Look one linked upthread is fabulous

Bettyhatesavocados · 12/12/2019 13:22

Not sure of your budget but this is nice:

Hepsibar · 12/12/2019 13:27

It's pretty and in natural light, I expect the subtle colouring looks much brighter. And it's the sort of dress you can wear anywhere so it's not a waste of money.

You would obviously look good in anything, so if you wanted to make a real statement, what about velvet?

thefootofourstairs · 12/12/2019 15:12

Thank you for the kind comments and suggestions Smile
The retro shoes are lovely but £265 is too much for me and knowing my luck it will be snowing Grin

Stick with the dress you have - wear with a touch of fake tan and I would wear with tan leather boots - knee high to give a 70's vibe. It's a nice dress and perfect for the occasion.

Sleepthief · 12/12/2019 18:41

Do you like and wear the blouse? If it's your style and taste stick with that and the skirt. I think it looks lovely and if you feel comfortable in it, that's the most important thing!
